Paul,
Thanks for the pictures. You can really see that it's a F/8. It has the F/8 and G style tow shackle brackets. I also see the T-34 tracks on the front as well as the wooden beam on the driver's side. I'm not sure what the brackets are...they don't look like they're for side skirts. Hopefully something will turn up on these.

ok... now i am firmly back modelling and wokring on my sd.kfz 22 my mind has turned to this build... the kit i will be doing is

http://www.tamiyausa.com/items/plastic-model-series-20/1-35-scale-military-miniature-12000/german-sturmgeschutz-iv-kit-35087

i know i want better skirts (probs just split the kit ones and thin them then have some missing/damanged (might use some cocke-can to make new ones (I know there is AM available but I have a PzIV in the stash that I considered going all out on (once i feel more comfrotable)...

which leaves me 2 things else I would consider improving/adding

1) zimm - I know I should beable to do this myself but what is the eduard PE stuff like? believe they do a set for this kit
2) replacemnet tracks - any AM ones available (not used FRUIL but would consider).....

thanks guys

I will be building this version. Picked it up cheap on ebay the other day and plan on going a little crazy with the AM stuff for it. I understand it's a fairly old kit but should still come out fairly accurate in the end.

Rob nice kit there, a bit simple but with a little time, care and a few bits of scratch it can turn out great. I can't say anything about the Zimmerit as I make my own, but as to the tracks you can do the following:
1. go Friuls you'll not regret anything.
2. If you have the Trumpeter Pz IV recovery vehicle you could use a set from there, you get DS style and single link in there.
3. Put out a help call on the "buy, sell or trade page", some is bound to have used Friuls on a Dragon kit, and may part with the magic tracks that they exchanged them for.
4. You could get the old Academy Pz IV track set, they are like the old Dragon tracks, they need some cleanup but go together well and look better than the vinyl Tamiya tracks.

Smokey Memories of the StuG build part 1, that´s a nice kit, old maybe but still ok. Only one thing, I got mine reduced too, from an online shop, the tracks where missing . Check your kit, not that you egt a nasty surprise later

This is a pic from the ebay listing. I am supposed to find these in the box and really hope that is the case. While they aren't Magic Tracks, I hope they still have good detail with the extended grousers already molded to each link.

I am all game, using an old Tamyia stug kit with DML tracks, metal stuk barrel, resin mantelet with casted canvas cover. Might think of other stuff to stick on it. Have fun friends.

Well the Stug III F/8 just arrived and @Sal it has 2 piece individual links on sprues but they look very good. @Paul, all parts are present and accounted for. Now the hard part begins, waiting for the campaign to start!

Yeah... I never thought I'd hear myself saying "Come on December!"

I have that same exact kit. I wonder if I could get by with building a StuG G with zimm AND those tracks too?

Or, just open up my time capsule Tamiya StuG III Ausf G (MM114-500) that's never been opened?

I've never put on any zimm at all and just recently got into German vehicles so that will change.

But I did read somewhere that it's like hanging siding on a house so I would imagine all of those sheets are to be installed after the superstructure is put together. I think there is some filling in needed at the edges.

Okay everyone... don't eat TOO much tomorrow (those that do celebrate) and get sick because this thing kicks off December 1st.

I'm gonna be diving head first into this with the same kit Tristan's building, but not the Cassino StuG.

And probably going to try and snag these figures.

I'm going to be going for one of the StuG's with Wiking in the Korsun pocket. The gun mantlet is different, but I should have an extra if I want to get it %100 correct. If I remember right the StuGs with the Wallons were loaners from the 4th SS, not sure about the others. We'll see how this one goes...

I'm going to build Dragon's older Stug III B. It's been floating around the stash since it was released something like 18 years ago. Anyhow, I've got the Eduard pe for it and will likely use a set of Fruil tracks. I know I have an old Airwaves set for it somewhere too. It has inserts for the drive sprockets to make them look like the early ones. I' ll have to see if I can find it.

I'm also looking to join in the new year, If all goes well then maybe even in January.

Really looking forward to this. I've found some great up close photos of the cassino stug which show alot of the little details like stowage.

Cheers

Shuftie's Stug III - Day 1

Got all the suspension done (even thought I managed to flick one of the shock absorbers across the room and spent 15 minutes finding it!).
