Hi Jay, you stalled too?
Just got restarted. Putting the glass in the frames for the side windows and they are so loose I can't get them to sit straight. Need to put in some extra support. The ones for the doors were too tight though

Yes, man. no bench time at all.......
As for the side glass, I had no problem at all, remember i didn't use glue, you just need to find the right angle then slowly push it in.

Thanks Jay, I realised the mistake I was making: needed to sit them further into the frame flush against the PE slats. So a little filing of the edges to allow for the thickness of the paint and they fit in solidly with no glue.
So here's where I am now:

With a Vietnam era Mutt, it's equivalent at the time by function at least, for size comparison
Still have most of the painting underneath to do and a lot of touch ups. Then can start all the detail bits

Thanks Jay, and thanks for the guidance on the side windows!
Apart from the weapons I think the gun-tub is OK. A bit fiddly to put together as there is nothing to really hold parts in the exact position at the sides or on the ring while they dry. But with care & patience it comes together. I have to add the glass at my next session: I masked and painted them last night. We'll see how it looks then.
Also, main painting of the vehicle is now complete. Ready for decaling tonight and also have made significant progress on all the bits like doors, mirrors, lights, O-GPK (kit version)& weapon (Live Resin Mk47 AGL), wheels, aeriels & anti-IED Rhino & Duke

Have a few days off coming up now so actually hope to finish it this week!

They look nice Jay and correctly have very little sag. The wheels have a solid steel core under the tyre: must make for an uncomfortable ride unless the suspension is very good.
I've the wheels on now and with a figure just to show the size of this beast:

I forgot to put the transparent parts in the wto small windows either side of the rear ramp. Not sure I'll be able to now....my own fault.
But the biggest fault with the kit is the rear jerry-can racks. A standard jerry can (none provided in the kit) will not fit in the racks. Having sanded down a set to make them thinner they won't fit in with the windows in place. So these racks are the one part that needs replacing with PE and the construction steps, if you want to add jerry cans, need to be altered. Still, not a huge issue. A lot of referenc epics show them empty anyway. I would also imag, given the size, that a few jerry-cans of fuel won't get this brute very far

Hi Jay, what's happening? You've gone very quiet....
Some motivation for you: I got all the sticking-out bits attached

Just a final bit of weathering to be done

Hi Gang,
for those who have wondered about the extra parts on sprue "K". I got confirmation that these are common parts of communications gear for MaxxPro, RG-31 and M-ATV kits.
Cheers

I haven't built mine yet, but I plan on leaving the PE guards off and painting them separately. Paint the model as normal w/windows masked off. Then add the PE guards to the painted model.

I guess that is one solution.. and I can't think of another way of doing it.. unless I mask over those guards.. then spraying the whole vehicle.. then removing the masks and painting those parts with a brush

I'm working on mine. The side windows can be placed from inside, so I went ahead and glued the frame with photo etch to cab side. I glued the photo etch to the ones for the doors and will spray separately then add window and then glue to door. I'm in the middle of adding all the cabling to the roof for the antennas and the DVE camera.

And another alternative is to attach the PE to the frames and paint them and the vehicle separately. Then put in the glass and attach the frames to the sides. Looking good so far Hisham!

Thanks, Pete and Sean, good alternative ideas.
Sean, did you have problems with the fit, and the instructions not being clear.. and sometimes calling out for the wrong numbers.. like it says No. 5 goes on the right and No. 6 on the left, but it turns out it's the other way around... Or am I just getting too old?

Not that I can recall Hisham. As I cut them from the sprues, attached the PE, cleaned up and painted by the time I was attaching them I didn't know what part was what number. I just made sure all 4 fitted before gluing any of them....
