Nice to see some BTRs in here, I might need some help with my build.
I decided to convert Trumpeters SPW-70 back to a BTR-70 in Afganistan. The kits seem to include the same sprues, so this might be not a problem...
For the look I decided to scratch the "Kovriki armor" some vehicles recived, which are essential a few steelplates bolted on the upper hull.
Not perfectly visible here, but with an interresting cammo:

Nice to see some BTRs in here

and another one just joint.

Hi all, I was this Friday waiting for parts to arrive for another campaign and did not wanted to take up some other stuff so while looking at events in the Ukraine I decided I could do a weekend BTR built as I still had a dragon easy built in the stash. So with that said I built the BTR in only a couple of hourswith only a few alternations.

However as said it's going to be an Ukrainian BTR and their are lots of examples found and non of them are standard so I needed to add some stuff.

The sandbag's are magic sculp and the ammunition boxes are scratched.

next painting,..

Finished the build of the LAV-25.

Might get a vignette done, still forming up the idea.

Just ordered an AFV Club M1132 for the Engineering the Future campaign without checking the end date....no way I'd get it done in 3 weeks so it will be my 8x8 entry here.

pulled the trigger today and placed an order for my kit for this campaign. I'm going to build a USMC LAV-R, something about me and recovery vehicles. This will be my first armored car/truck build, so we will see have to see how this one pans out.

Too bad I had to order online, my local hobby store didn't have this one in stock.

Despite the fully loaded weekend schedule, I had the chance to work some on my ASLAV PC.

In the first steps I already stumbled upon some misaligned shock absorber coils which were impossible to correct. Not a big deal in the end since this is going to be hidden behind the wheels:

The lower hull falls together pretty nicely once you manage to remove the very fine parts from the sprue and clean them without damaging them. Personally, I had a lot of problems with this part and the components are very fragile. Extreme attention is required here but still managed to break one set of steering arms which were impossible to align afterwards:

The PE parts that are assembled on the lower hull seemed very difficult to assemble at a first glance as they only present the material thickness as their gluing surface which is less then 1mm. Still, applying a bit more glue and carefully placing the parts in the puddle seem to render surprisingly stable connections. We'll see how that resists further handling during the build process:

The propeller and specially their guards are again a run of very thin parts that need to be removed, cleaned and aligned very carefully:

I'm currently searching for a solution to replicate the anti-slid coating. First trials with sand, plaster and two types of sanding paper showed that probably the 1200 sanding paper would match best. However, I find it very difficult to make some paper templates to use for cutting out the pieces to glue on the upper hull. Texture paint would be another option but keeping the surrounding of the upper hull elements clear seems even more difficult as there is no way to mask out the plethora of attachment points. As of now, I'm on the verge on giving up on the anti-slip coating as it is. Suggestions are more than welcome!

Cheers,
Cristian

Cristian,

Search the site for anti-slip there have been a couple of threads with different techniques.

Cheers Rob.

Thanks for the hint, Rob!

I did check the site for ideas but most will require some kind of masking or cutouts around the superstructure attachment points which make this really difficult. I was hoping that somebody might have templates for masks/pre-cut stickers.

Hi Christian,
I´ve done anti silp on a Leopard 2 in 1:72 quite some time ago. I used little thinned white glue and a small sieve to cover it with "standard kitchen" flour. Was a bit too much for 1:72, but should look good in 1:35.
You can either put the white glue only where you need it, or mask the areas one at a time to avoid cutting little stripes of masking tape.

Thanks, Fabian! I actually used plaster as I don't think flour should be used here but it came out very irregular. Although, using a sieve might improve on this. Got to try that tonight.

Well, plaster could flatten out when wet... not shure, haven´t tested.
as you seal the flour with whiteglue and then again with paint, I wounld´t be too scared about long term side effects...

15 green sprues, 1 clear, 8 tyres, upper and lower hull and a small fret of PE: thats a lot of plastic! This could take a while....

Yoohoo! Another Stryker! How do you plan to do the anti-slip. Kind of stuck with mine on the ASLAV...
