Here is my white washed Panther. I hand painted the white wash in an attempt to make it look 'field applied' I also added some Wet Effects fluid to give it that wet sheen but I don't think it came through in the pictures. This is my second white wash attempt and Ive got some mixed feelings about it.
As far as the kit goes, it was the Panther Night Fighting tank from DML with the some PE screens, Cavalier Zimm, and some Tamiya one piece tracks.

I used AK interactive set for Germany tanks 1944/1945.
On the turret, I carved the template from Tamiya masking tape, combining the plastic strips of rubber, Somewhere I had to repair the brush.
I started at 10 am and ended at 4.28 in the morning. Of course, with breaks for meals and cool the compressor.

I'll also be picking up Dragon's Panther G Steel Wheel. I hope I have time to finish it. I'll be finishing my Jagdpanther, tomorrow.

Hi,
Beautiful Panther, Miloslav. What kind of paint you used to reproduce color Dunkelgelb?

I like that it is so bright, color wash very often darkens.

This kit is friggin awful. The stamp on the bottom of the hull says 1969...no wonder it only cost me 10 bucks! The fit is really bad and some bits of the tank look either too big or too small. I put down Olive Drab over Desert Yellow for the camo. I went to 'stripey' and not 'blotchy' enough. Next time I will certainly trace the camo pattern before I spray. Still a bit of weathering to do and some dust to be added to the lower hull and running gear.

That's because it's dimensionally off as it's an ex-motorised kit. Too wide, rear idler has teeth on it to drive the tracks from the rear, tracks are wrong and so are the road wheels.
As long as it's not parked next to another brand of Panther tank it'll be just fine as 10 bucks is perfect for a Campaign effort!

Luke, the old Tamiya kit is not the best Panther in town to say the least and probably never was.
Also it seems like you turned the gun barrel the wrong way - the muzzle brake is turning sideways.
Good job on an old kit. Looking forward to see it finished.

Although I'm not aware of your location in Queensland, I would recommend you visit the AMMS Brisbane Web site (www.ammsbrisbane.com). It contains details of where and when we meet. If you are able to visit, we'd welcome you, and I promise you would learn a lot by talking to the other members, some of whom, especially me, are Panther fanatics.
Not surprised you only paid $10 for that kit - even that was more than it's worth.
Regards
Rob

Can I use the ambush camo, on this kit? I believe the dates line up, but am having difficulty locating a photo of a steel wheeled tank, with this pattern.

Hi all,
An update. Still a long way to finish.
I used the Cavalier zimmerit set, and Lion Roar and Royal model photoetch sets.
@Miroslav. Beautiful Panthers!

Matt;
I somehow doubt that there was any real steel-wheel G kitty issued with an ambush scheme; There were only a small number - maybe as many as 20 or so? - of "whole-set" steel-wheel G built, as a trials group. (Albeit some steelies may well have been added onto other G later in the war). And there seem only few steel-wheel pics to be found, and none I've seen show an ambush scheme. Doesn't mean it didn't happen, and as you noted, there is some potential synchrony between the development and trials of the SW G and the application of ambush schemes.... Part of a potential answer may lie in whether one believes that most or all ambush schemes were factory paint-jobs, as versus something done by unit shops or individual crews... IF a factory thing done at production or during a major refit - I think that there would be no real steel-wheel G with such scheme. IF, on the other hand, done by crew or shops... than you could be off to the races!
It would likely look pretty cool, IMO, but I also think that the documented striped / blotched schemes on SW G actually look quite cool, too!
The relative handful of SW G mostly went into action around the Ardennes in DEC 1944 - many with Kampfgruppe Peiper. All of these, I believe, wore one or another blotched tricolor scheme. Survivors retreated back into Germany and died during the spring of 1945.
I am currently building the Tamiya SW G with a plan to use one of these blotched schemes photographed on an Ardennes wreck... "225" of KG Peiper, with, of all things, one standard wheel mounted on in place of a missing steelie!
Cheers!
Bob

Bob: Thank you for the very informative answer. I can deal with using one of the documented schemes. Although, I believe the number of sw G's was closer to 120. I just found an excellent reference on when different colors and schemes were used.

You're obviously free to believe what you like but Jentz (PT 5-170) reports Fgst Nr indicate only 24 confirmed. Do your sources have that degree of credibility?
The steel wheel series appears to be exclusively a MAN series, built in September.
