Yeah its funny how putting on paint in exactly the same way as on the real thing (oils with a scale brush) looks a bit rubbishy!

Are you saying the tank crews used oil paint as a winter white wash?

Howdy Y'all
I got a little more done on the Tamiya 1/48 KV-II. I'll have to wrap it tomorrow if I'm going to make the deadline.
I'm going to keep weathering to a minimum, fresh from the factory condition.
Take care,
Don "Lakota"

Hi all,
I decided to switch gears and build a T-74 instead. This kit was designed during the cold war era with limited information on the T-72M1. I am still building the T-80U but at a lower pace (it was a stretch of the rules anyway).
I started cleaning the pieces (the number is limited). I will be using an aluminum barrel (brand unknown). Hopefully I will be nearly done before the deadline.
Spoons,
Beautiful KingTiger!

I'm calling this one done. If I had more time and my LHS wasn't 200 miles away I would do some weathering with the new products now available. This is my first serious attempt to do some color modulation. If I had more time and a wash made for BO4 then I would try to bring it all together.
This was a great idea for a campaign. Great work by everyone!

I finally finished the 1969 vintage Panther that has been in my closet for more than 30 years. It is certainly an old kit and there are better ones out now but I have to say that it still holds up pretty well. In the end, it looks like a Panther and that is the test of any model.
I was thinking about the term "old dog" and found that the term has a different meaning to me. An old dog is the best friend you will ever find in this world, patient, loyal, a companion you are thoroughly used to and fits you like a glove.
This Tamiya kit is like that. Generations of modelers have built it and learned the craft of modeling with it. It is cheap, easy to build, reasonably accurate and has jillions of aftermarket bits ti improve its admitted faults. I used Fruil tracks, Archer Dry Transfers Eduard photo etched parts and a Eureka tow cable set on mine. I tried a three color paint job for the first time. My skills are modest and yet the result is still pleasing to the eye.
Is this kit a dog? Yes, and of the very best kind.

Just a note about the weathering on the Panther. I found a paint scheme like this for a later model of the Panther and thought it might be appropriate for an overhauled early model. I tried to make it look like it was just out of the shop with fresh paint, dirty from travel but not beat up or too used looking. My normal tendency is to think that if a little looks good, a lot will look better. I tried to restrain myself with this project and actually went around with a paint brush & thinner removing excessive weathering. Did I underdo it? What do you think?

Say, I just looked at the Campaigns page and this one is supposed to end on 12-1-16? Is that right? If so, I'm not gonna be done I thought originally a year was proposed?
Thanks,
JoeP

I read that the old Panthers were extensively rebuilt and that major parts were sometimes swapped out so an older hull might have a latter turret for example. If that is so, the latest paint seems reasonable . . .

Yep, not a full year.
I'm not going to make it either, but only because the guy I'm building the kit for just asked me to modify it to look less toy-like and match his other tanks.
I was just about to paint it this past weekend and have it done by the deadline, but now I have to go out and buy scratching supplies.

OK Gents, here it is. Just about under the wire. I'm calling this DONE. Get this pile of dog dung out of my sight!! I'm gonna do the modeling community a favor and put this thing in a lead box and hide it in the back of my closet.

Dog II?!?!? Count me in. Those 70's & 80's Tamiya kits still look good. I might even try an Italeri kit.
