How does everyone feel about starting 1 Sep and running for approx. 6 months?
Campaign will be open to any scale, any nation and will include any of the following:
1. Air, ground, or sea-going vehicles/vessels named for a clerical title from any religious order
2. Air, ground, or sea-going vehicles/vessels named for a god or demi-god from any mythology or religious following(I'll accept the flying spaghetti monster only if you can provide an image!)
3. Figures or vignettes of either of the above (e.g.: diorama of a chaplain holding a battlefield service, etc.)
Will not include such things as Crusaders or Saracens, which, while having a religious association, do not quite fit into any of the above categories.
Sound good?
Oh, and just to be clear: This campaign is not about promoting religion or any particular religion; it's simply an idea for something a bit off the beaten path. But it's perhaps worth noting the impact that religion has had in shaping the history we reflect in our hobby.
Mark, I take it then that this and the other tracked heavy mortars named after the Norse gods are good to go?
Cheers,
Tat

ALCON,
Campaign proposal has been submitted, and awaiting approval. However, I am at a total loss for ideas for a campaign award. Anyone got any ideas?

So, would a Crusader fit in?
Tat,
Given the description I submitted in the campaign proposal, I've thought some more about it and decided Crusader would be acceptable.

Sal,
I think for me the difficulty is not so much a lack of creativity but the challenge of coming up with something universally representative of the theme, but without being specific to a particular order (and thus open to misinterpretation of promoting a particular set of beliefs) or otherwise considered disrespectful.
I thought your idea of a monk was actually pretty good, and it immediately got me thinking that a picture of the monks from MP&THG would look good, but unfortunately just can't do much at this resolution. However, a couple other thoughts from MP&THG came to mind:
a:
b:
Not sure if everyone will consider either of these appropriate, so I thought since bringing light into the darkness is a common theme in religion and mythology I came up with this pretty generic offering:
c:
Anyone have a preference or any other ideas?

Yeah, agree that it has be a generic or universal image. An alternative may be an eye, to signify the ever-present, all-knowing belief. Will work on some visuals.

Sept. 1 sounds like a good start date; I'm in the process of moving from IL to IA to take a new pastorate (I'm a pastor in the United Methodist Church); will need some time to settle in and look through my stash to see if I have anything relating to the topic; if not I'll just have to buy something

Tom,
For the most part, yes, but what do you have in mind? I'm usually pretty flexible on how we interpret the rules.
Tat,
A variation on the all-seeing eye like your first two actually wouldn't be a bad idea.

I was just thinking about some civilian vehicles like Pontiac Firebird (well, firebird .. a kind of mythological creature
), Ford Mercury, Honda Odyssey, Daihatsu Pandora .. it's all up to you Mark

Interesting Idea Tom Thom.... but does it fit?
" clerical title from any religious order...
... named for a god or demi-god from any mythology or religious following"
A Mercury or Pandora being a demi-god/etc, could?
If it's Military Fatigues perhaps?

Tom,
Interesting idea. The basic premise, as stated in the campaign submission, is the influence of religion and mythology on warfare, so I'm not sure how we reconcile civilian vehicles with that. Thoughts, anyone? I hate to be exclusive of anyone who wants to join.

That would open up things like the HMS Hermes, the Apollo rockets and even the Jupiter II from Lost in Space... The basic question is "what did you intend for this campaign?"

Well, HMS Hermes would certainly be a go: Hermes being a god, and the ship being a warship; but the others not so much.
If one considers the space race to be but one skirmish in the cold war, an argument could be made for the rocket, which is actually named Saturn (but still named for a god).
