Hi Alex,
I used Vallejo 71.044 light grey green as I thought it was probably the best match to thermal sleeves I had seen. That being said i have seen covers that looked brown and others an almost bright green. There is a strip of material underneath the rear section of the barrel which is lighter as this is extra insulation against heat from the engine and transmission when the the gun is rear. If you go to the following link it shows my build with a few pictures.

Hi Max,
and thank you for the info and the link to your splendid (in my eyes) build.
It gives me much inspiration regarding the weathering and overall finish.
I hope that someday I'll reach your level of finesse!!!
So: happy modelling

Hello all,
so that's the model at the moment (I have to admit, that I'm not a speed-builder).
The thermal sleeve maybe looks a bit bricht, and also too greenish, but after filters and a brown wash the colour will be okay..., I hope.

Hi Alex,
I like your Chieftain build and let me show you how I added a little interest to the same kit I am currently building:
loosy straps for the thermal sleeve:
Takom-Chieftain-Mk11-04 by Tamas Erdosi, on Flickr
and covers for the smoke grenade launchers:
Takom-Chieftain-Mk11-01 by Tamas Erdosi, on Flickr
Both are made from a plastic “nappy cover” which was used in Hungary some 25 years ago. I saved some sheets for modelling and I use the regular cyanoacrilat for gluing and as it even melts a bit, for forming, too.
These ideas might inspire you to enhance the look of your kit.
Regards,
Tamas

Hi Alex
Looks great to me. A brown wash will bring it down nicely. Glad to see someone else keeping the British representation Up

Hmmm, I presume it was not one actually 'used' 25 years ago
Nice innovation.

Good morning everyone,
first of all, I have to thank everyone here in this forum for your encouragement and help!!
It's very nice (at least for me), that now I can share my models with other fellow modelers, 'cause criticism and advice will help me to build better models.
@ Norman
Yes, british and russian vehicles are my favorites. Maybe it's their design....
@ Tamas
The straps on the thermal sleeve look very cool. A shame I haven't thought of that. Again, thank you for the inspiration.
Happy holiday

Hi David,
It is so clear build that looks like rendered from a 3D designer program.
Amazing job!

Hi Peter,
No worries it is unused
Actually this happened before the Pampers-age happened in my country. We used textile nappies (yes, they did turn brown or yellow sometimes ) and this plastic cover over the nappy tix that instead of pins.
I did a try with it using general plastic modelling glues but did not work. Than one time attacked it with the CA and that made the wonder.
Since that all canvas things (incl gun straps etc...) are made from this.
Cheers,
Tamas

We actually had the same here Tamas. We gave them a fancy name errr....'Plastic pants' We phased them out a lot longer than 25 years ago though.
Funny to see the plastic on yours is still pliable after 25 years, yet Dragon DS tracks fall to bits in less than a couple of years....

I built Trumpeter's T-62 Mod 1972 with markings from the Yom Kippur War of 1973. I had several setbacks on the build, and things generally did not go as well as I hoped. Decided to call it finished to move on to another project.

Hi Shawn,
the T-62 looks nice on the photos. I have the counterpart - Trumpy's Tiran-6 version in my stash. That will be likely my next target to build and already bought tons of a/m stuff to enhance the look. I hope not to meet the issues you faced during the build.
Good luck with your next project. What model do you plan to build?

Tamas,
Thanks for the comment, and the Tiran 6 is definitely on my wish list. My next project is a 1/24th scale race car for my dad as a gift for Fathers Day which is celebrated in June here.
Best of luck!
Shawn

Progress so far. Got the turret built and primed. Now to tackle the suspension and tracks so I can get them painted, and the side skirts installed.
A lot of injection marks to clean up though

I had a bit progress on my Trumpy T-80B model. Paint is now fiexed with Gunze's semi-gloss varnish and black oil applied to the recessed areas. Also a bit of dark rust to here-and-there (although most of them will be partly covered with dust or so). Next step is apply another (but more flat) varnish and than complete weathering with streaking grimes, dust, red rust and so on. I hope to finish the model in a very short time and have my first Campaing succeed.

Hi Tamas, I like your Chieftain very much. As far as I can see, the etched screens on the engine deck are not from the kit. They are much finer. What did you use? Please keep us updated on your great model.

Hi Stephan,
Thank you very much for your comment about my work. That kit is made with the Voyager a/m upgrade, except sideskirts (I have a very special idea about the tank decoration that needs the original plastic skirts from the Takom kit).
The Voyager set is highly recommended as it does add a lot to the model as you can see, although I did not use up some 30-40% of the set (I am not so good to scrape off the small plastic hinges to replace with the PE parts).
I will check if more pics were made during the build and if so, will upload more.
The model is right before painting now. As it will have a unique "what-if" decoration using special masking techniques, I need some time to decide what method to use. Once the painting is ready I will upload some photos.
Cheers,
Tamas
PS.: yes, I am working on both kits paralel as the Chieftain is a much slower project than I thought. I am usually a "start-do-oomplete" guy and hate suspending a project but this idea is so weird that I am blocked by the masking...

Hi Tamas, the screens on the engine deck look so much better than the kit etched parts. Hope to see more of your Chieftain 👍🏼
