When I was about 10, my Dad took me to see one of his customers (he was the local bank manager). The guy was a veteran who had been in the Northants Yeomanry in WW2 (I didn't know this, my Dad didn't prime me in any way). The old boy showed me a picture of him in uniform and asked me to guess what regiment he was in. I blew it completely and you could see the guy was put out, all veterans are very proud of their regiment. I don't even remember the guy's name.
Roll on ten years and I would have been bursting with questions for him, we would have gone on half the night! For all I know the man I was introduced to could have been Joe Ekins.

I know exactly what you mean man. I wish I had the "history fire" when I was young and my Dads' generation were still around. Although,truth be told,they were taciturn about the whole thing. Mt Dads' insurance guy was captured in the Hurtgenwald and even back then that impressed me but he wouldn't say anything about it.
My Pop was at Pearl Harbor and all the early fleet actions in the Pacific on the Cruiser New Orleans but it took him well into the 1990s before we got him to open up,luckily on tape.
I wonder if that Northants guy was in Epsem and the initial death ride of the Northants.

No worries, I’d imagine your camera’s editing suite should have a monochrome (and sepia) option too. All I did was use the Windows/Accessories/Snipping Tool to copy your pic onto my desktop, open it in my camera’s (Olympus) edit program, switch the image to mono, reduce the contrast a little, & resize to upload back here.
It’s sometimes handy to gauge colour tones by testing their appearance in glorious black & white, because there’s a tendency by most of us (incl. me) to make them too intense. The fact that I only took your original down a couple of clicks (which is of course only my opinion of what looks best) backs your instincts for what looks right – when I have to take it down 10+ clicks on one of my own, I know I’ve screwed up!
It’s sometimes handy to gauge colour tones by testing their appearance in glorious black & white, because there’s a tendency by most of us (incl. me) to make them too intense. It may look easy,but my increasing arthur-itis in my hands and worsening "dry eye" syndrome picked up from the swamps of Camp McCall coupled with the average "getting older" and loosing patience earlier are sometimes a challenge!
But we must soldier on,right??

I realise it's not easy; it's very difficult to bring together the "idea/historical accuracy/high skill level" trifecta to a final composition etc etc.
With all the free ease of access to quality reference, the absolutely global plethora of product sources, the multitude of superior quality kits, and all the community modeling sites, it's also the special ART created by gents like yerself Jerry that demand the appreciation and respect that you now carry here. It's well deserved too my man because you are also so humble and supportive thru it all.

I am humbled and embarrassed and appreciative all wrapped into one. Thanks man,I really appreciate that.
Here we have my new quest in action. The subjugation of the "standing at attention" model figure we all have come to expect.
If you look at real people(when they become soldiers they remain so) we see if that if you stand somewhere for a bit you tend to begin to slouch more and more as time passes. Fatigue also has a hand in this.
Here is my start on changing a member of the "palace guard" around the officers. The corporal at right is unmodified in legs and torso while the guy on duty has started the "slouch" process by moving the torso to his rear slightly and bending it forward slightly,remembering when adding the head to keep it level and to shorten the neck as well.
Next you have to remove a bit from the top front of his legs and also a bit from the bottom back of his torso.
You may be able to see past the beginnings here and visualize the guy slouched down a bit and balancing his Enfield on his leg in front?
Hope this all sort of makes sense.

OK Dave,
Here ya go. The areas have been removed,some undercutting done and the ammo pouches added. I have found this saves time to add them before putting the putty on. This way I can blend in the uniform with the pouches,etc.
I will add bulk to his back now to complete the new curved slouchy look.

First app of putty slapped on. Blending the fingers onto the weapon is a pet peave of mine but I must admit I don't always spend the time on it I should. You see a lot of plastic figs with "force field" hands that don't really come in contact with what they are holding.
I will move around to the back next.
All you folks from the good'ol USA have a great Independence Day! Enjoy your burgers and beer but give a thought to the Rev War Vets that made it possible.
