Thanks! I tend to go into mass production mode once i get started and then do all the refinements at the end...lol...I may have a break from figures next week and start on the base. If anyone can explain how to post pics I would be extremely grateful. I have to admit I am struggling with the instructions. It's my first campaign so am at a bit of a loss how to post pics.

Actually Karl, looking at the way you posted the pic's, you did nothing wrong and followed the guidelines correct. But there is a kind of "picture-bug" that results in the fact pictures sometimes don't show up...

This is the way you can post your pics if the normal way don't work:
You need to open one window with Armorama and the post you are typing, and one window with the gallery.

1. Go to your gallery and choose a picture
2. Right mouseclick on the picture and choose "properties" (last option in menu)
3. copy the URL mentioned (for example: "https://gallery.kitmaker.net/data/15719/kneeling2.jpg")

4. Go to your post you are typing on Armorama
5. Choose the "IMG" button above right the text block
The following text appears in your message between to IMG and /IMG :
6. Remove the text "http://put.url.here/image.file" between the tags and paste the URL in place of that.
Make sure you leave all the [ and ] in place!!!

This way your picture shows!

Now, what's the bug?

If you press the "copy" button below the picture in your gallery it does exactly what I desrcibed above, but than automaticly. For some reason it SOMETIMES takes a wrong URL for it.
In your case it uses the URL like: "https://gallery.kitmaker.net/data/500/kneeling2.jpg" instead of "https://gallery.kitmaker.net/data/15719/kneeling2.jpg"

Don't know why it does that. It's a well known bug on the site...
So if you pic's don't show up automaticly just check if the picture's URL in the gallery is the same as mentioned in your post

Phew! Was quite relieved when I saw we'd got till May 31st as a dead line! I've pretty much decided on the dio after having a digabout in the cupboard under the stairs (my model stash...hehehe). Its going to be a KG of Nordland and Charlemagne counterattacking a Soviet armoured/infantry assault while replacing the wounded Wehrmacht crew of a PAK40 ( I realised I'd got three unbuilt ones). I'm going to do in depth positions to add a bit of drama to it to show the fight-through. Only drawback with that is I'm going to have to scratchbuild the buildings as they all only seem to have two walls if you buy the commercially made ones. In my minds eye I have a building in the middle of two streets which is being fought over so I need three external walls. Any tips on cheap, fast scratchbuilding buildings as I'm not used to doing Urban settings. I'm used to bocagey type stuff. Help!

Well, that's this forum all about
Check out MrMox 1$ diormama

I am busy with making a mold for wall parts. I'll come back on that soon, but it is'nt a cheap method... at least, not in the begin.

I once builded wall's out of balsa wood (or thin spare triplex plate will do also). Coloured it white wit a bit of texture from sawdust gives it a realistic look.

Take also a look in the diorama section of Armorama to get inspired and to "steal" ideas!

Hello fellow Berliners

At last the upload of pics has finally been succesful. I was a bit scared that I'd miss a ribbon due to internal problems #:-)

Anyway, some progress pics and info on my current project for this campaign:

Sorry for the blurry quality of this one. Lamppost and barrels are from Tamiya.

I've just finished my last of five figures to be placed on the dio. Next step is to make debris for the street and try to place some kind of barricades in the street. What kind? I'm not sure, but I think a sandbag/rock barricade could be useful in this scene. More to come.

Comments, critique, helpful tips etc. Everything is velcome. Thanks for viewing.

Hey Simon!

Looks good allready. I think a good barricade can be formed from the debri and rubble from the building.
On many pictures you see the fallen down building goes over into some kind of barricade.
It can include everything that comes in handy at the time: bricks, cobblestones, sand, furniture, cars, dead horses (or neighbours...) as long as it could provide some protection...

Well, I was looking for pictures of barricades for my own dio also. Here are some "inspiring" pictures:

And offcourse, the DVD "Downfall (Der Untergang)" has some realistic street scenes (actually, it was this movie that inspired me to lead this campaign...)

Simon ,
your scene looks great so far. I like your cobblestone surface with the dust. Look forward to seeing more.

The Downfall, what a great movie that was. After watching for a while you forget that you are watching a movie and not looking back through some time device.

Hmmmm...this project has gone a bit pear shaped! Due to my figure production line and watching "Downfall" on TV a few weeks back its become rather large. It's 4ft by 2ft. I'm currently baking a pavement in the oven to speed things up...lol. I've broken a few modelling rules by doing the road and barricades first but I'll add to them as I go along so it looks less structured. Hopefully it will work. I have no idea what I'm going to do with the dio once its finished. Maybe turn it into a coffee table once I get the lid for it? Found a good site for background music. http://ingeb.org/WWII.html. I've downloaded a load of Third Reich and Russian music off it to inspire me when I'm modelling...lol

Hey Karl!

That's gonna be a huge dio indeed! "Size" is also the problem I have to overcome, but your "coffeetable-diormama" is a great idea :-) :-)
Call it "Caffee Berlin", build in some loudspeakers to hear the sounds of "The Internationale"...

But I'm afraid my SWMBO don't like it though...

Alan,

That's becoming a great dio! Looking at the building it's hard to believe it "just" from foam. It looks real good.

:-) :-) I know exactly what you mean!
These are my comrads this far, but I also think I need some more Russians.

And Germans, well, as the "left overs" of the Germans gathered in Berlin, it's gonna be a mix of all sort of German uniforms and units. Even planning some civilians fighting.

007 I see you got the Tamiya Russian Assault Infantry and Dragon Russian Tank Riders. I got those and the Dragon Russian Motor Rifle Infantry Berlin45. I figure I can probably get about 10 more suitable figures for the attack. The rest will probably go on the Big 'N Beefy.

Bad News! Just found out that the Dragon Motor Rifle Infantry Berlin45 is out of stock but I found a Zveda Soviet Tank Infantry on sale for $4.00. I know the quality of these might be somewhat suspect but I think that mixed among 15 other quality figures it won't matter

Alan, the Dragon troops that you were after are huge compared to everyone else. I bought a box years ago and they all look to be about 6 foot 9! I've not been able to use them in this dio because they make everyone look like dwarves. The Zveda troops are okay with a bit of work although the heads are c**ppy so they went straight in the bin. One of the things I do like about them though is the Moisin Nagants have fixed bayonets which is ideal for my dio.

Thanks for the heads up about the figure sizes, Karl. I don't think it will be an issue when I jam a whole bunch of them together both inside and outside the building plus at different elevations on the piles of gravel. However I will be sure to make sure that the placement does not exaggerate the sizes any more than normal.

Hi there!

Finally I'm done. The dio depicts a German detachment getting into position and awaits a Russian patrol to pop by.
I've posted three pictures in the campaign gallery as well.

I hope you like it.

Comments, critique and remarks...let me have 'em. Also if You have any questions to the models.

Thanks for watching

Hey Simon,

Specially like this one! The rubble is very convincing.
I like the pose of the figure checking the building.

Hey guys and girls!

Here's a link to Simon's completed dio. It's worth viewing, I asure you!

Here's a picture of my JSU 122S, finally sprayed!
A bit of post-shading is applied also, now the fun part: weathering!!!

About the Borgward in front I'm still in doubt if I use it for this campaign or not. Most of these vehicle appeared in Berlin converted to "Wanze" tank destroyers. I don't know if the Germans still used the Borgward in the role as demolition vehicle during Berlin. Anyway, I sprayed it Fieldgrau as base colour and it will be camouflaged yet.

How's the rest????

Doh! Tried posting some progress pics today and it's not playing! Unrecoverable error whatever that means?.Nice dio Simon. I'm about halfway there now. Started on the buildings now. I'm trying a bit of an experiment with polystyrene celing tiles. I've cut them to shape and covered then in polyfilla. Makes a hell of a mess when you sand them though! Doesn't look too bad though once its all levelled off. Plus it's cheap...lol.
Still messing about with figures trying to work out where to place them. I've had to do the main street first as the buildings are either side of it and I want it to be a fairly fast moving dio to show the chaos of street fighting. On another note does anyone know where I can get some eagles to go on the outside of my buildings? As I'm doing it near the Reichstag and it's mainly governmental buildings according to my map I need eagles. Any clues?

This is a very early in-progress shot of my Berlin 45 Diorama

The building on the left is from Great North Roads while the one on the right is scratch built. I won't be using any of those figures in the pic except those on the ISU 152, they're just there to give an idea of where the figs will go. I'll be using the ICM NkVD figs and the DML Georgian Legion as surrendering Germans. The PZR IV is gone and replace by a hetzer crashing though the left building. The Photo below gives an idea of where the Dio is going now
