Here is my entry for the group build and first tank in about twenty years. Last one was an airfix churchill all those years ago.
Jeez 1/72 feels small for a tank. Nice though. This trumpeter kit just flies together. I got some PE on the cheap for hasegawa and dragon kits but most of it is not right for this kit. I don't know if any of the kit decals are good for the eastern front. Is a non-zimmerit late tiger realistic for this theatre? Any guidance appreciated

Looks good, JP. A late Tiger I would be perfect for the Eastern front. However, I am not sure about the missing zimmerit. As I recall most of the late Tiger I's had zimmerit, but I no recall seeing a Tiger I late in a ditch on the Eastern front without zimmerit. I cannot check right now as I am away from my references.
Could you take a picture of the markings? Then I am sure we could help to choose some markings that fits the Eastern front.
Here is an update on my Pz.Jg. I. Mud has been added to the suspension, but not painted yet. I have painted some details and tried a new technique on the muffler at the rear of the hull.
More to follow soon....

Cool Jesper, the muffler looks nicely rusted.
I'll attempt to build this tank.
as there are decals for it in the box.
You are quite right jesper "312" has zimmerit and the model does not.
Since the Eastern front group build doesn't finish till December I think I'll attempt to put some zim on it. Any ideas on the application of zim to 1/72 scale? I do have the PE set from eduard for the dragon kit. In fact due to a mix up I have two sets of details and zim for the dragon so guess which kit I'll be getting next.
I'm getting ahead of myself with this question but how do you apply the decals to zim? Bad enough on a matt surface never mind a crinkly one

Excellent choice, JP.
I believe this unit also had some late Tiger I's in overall sand yellow without zimmerit. I seem to remember '300' being without zimmerit, but I cannot check as I am still away from my references.
I have never made zimmerit in 1/72 scale. I think it will be very difficult to use putty as this will probably be too think. Maybe using a small screwdriver heated over a candle. The key thing is not to overdo it in this scale, I think.
Looking forward to see more as you progress

hello all,
some of the early tiger's had no zimmerit as they were rushed to the eastern front to help stabilized it.i have seen photo's for tiger units that have mixed bag some with zimmerit and some without it belonging to the same unit.
on my build i am doing the final version tiger with zimmerit and have painted it mustard yellow,no other cammo.i am working on the tracks now and should be done by next week,if the doc's will let me have some workbench time.
cheers,
Bruce

bit the bullet and started applied some pe zim. it is for the wrong kit and I don't think this trumpeter kit really is a late version. so it involves chopping the pe into bit and sticking it on. It is working but much slower than if I had the right kit. turret will be the hard bit. no camera tonight but will post pics tomorrow. At least I'm not needing to sculpt the zim.

Hi!
I haven’t been here for a while and I’ve missed some interesting stuff (as usual)
@ Mobious – beautifull gaz! I love what you’ve done with stowage.
@ Bento – thanks for sharing WIP pictures! It sure is interesting model.
@ Jesper – nice progress as well – you really need to have great rate of model/hour to be able to join every campaign here
@ JP, nice work so far! I hope you will add some more pictures soon. I don’t remember seeing any pictures of late production Tiger without zimmerit on the eastern front – initial production, sure, but not the late… Anyway – since Jesper said that he’s seen late Tigers without zimmerit it is worth checking. At the very late period of war some machines lost big parts of their zimmerit but some remainings were still visible.
As for my build – I’ve just made a dry fit of whole turret interior. It fits well, so I’m starting to paint it. I hope to post some pics soon.

As promised, here are some snaps. I filed off the moulded-on tow rope from the port side. I'll need to replace that with something, fine copper cable perhaps. I'll need to sculpt out the hard straight edges (or cover them with mud).
I do have my concerns regarding the turret. It has a binocular gun sight I thought it should be monocular. I think I'll consult dave brydens excellent website.

Hello All,
Adrzej, Thanks for viewing and the comments, looking forward to seeing updates on the T-34.
Jesper, Nice work on the Panzerjaerger 1, That's a pretty heavy coating of mud, be waiting to see the progress of thepaint work .
JP, With Adrzej on the zimmerit question. Looked into it a little and production of the T1 ended in Aug '44. The order to stop the application of zim was issued in Oct. of '44.
As for units that operated late production T1 on the East, The 506, 507and 510 all did as far as a quick recearch indicates. There were many battle gruppes that were formed in the final months of the war from remnants of PD that would have possibly have been equipped with them. Just read a caption from "Tigers on the Eastern Front" (by:JRestayn),that a Tiger from the 506 had destroyed a JS1 with a single shot at a range of 3.9km(2.5 miles). Thats a heck of a shot.
That's a great looking Tiger 1, Looking forward to more updates.

Andrzej, "Tigers in Combat I & II" (by Wolfgang Schneider) are excellent reference material for anyone interested in TI and TII deployment. Highly recommended. Lots of in action pics, unit orginaztion, command rosters, after action reports, kills, losses, and resupply charts. a wealth of info on the schwere Abtls.

I admire your confidence Mo, I just hope my execution doesn't foul up all this stuff I'm buying for it. It is my first tank and only 6 sixth model since a twenty year break in modeling. I'm itching to get my grubby paws the razor saw though. Can't wait to start chopping things up! Acutally it's not been too bad I got the zim and pe for £5 the kit for £5 and now this rope for £2 so not too bad overall. I'm using the decal from the kit. I do feel like buying the rope is cheating but it just looks so damn good compared to rubber stuff you get with the kit.

So far the BT-7 is finished, and the Su-85 is on the way.
Might start a Heller kit, the Somua for this campaign and a KV-2...
I need to clear my stash and the best way so far is to keep building...

I got a bit more done on my entry, with my not so great build log here!
Cheers all

Hi Folks!
Quite a bit late here but I'm joining this campaign. This will be my first ever, and pretty much the first time I show a build. I will be building Tristar's PzKpfw 38(t) ausf E/F (in the mail together with a metal barrel from Lionmarc) in a June/July 41' vignette.
Some WIP info in a week or two!
Cheers!

@ JP: Your Tiger looks superb. Keep it up!
@John: 4 builds, John?? 4!? You must have plenty of free time on your hands...
@James: your build look good too!
Great looking ammo-rack. That PE must have cost you some nerves!
About the wiring of the radio, that is not correct. I included a diagram of it, because I used it too.
@ Jean-Vincent: welcome on board!
So, here I am, back at the front again.
I completed most of the interior and painted it. There will be a lot of personal gear added, together with a new driver I am creating now.
The radiosection has been completed and after that was done, I found these wiring diagrams, showing some wiring is missing on my model. Why is it that you allways find this kind of info afterwards!!

Hello All,
James,
The build log is excellent. Very nice work on the Marder III. Lots of PE. Will be looking forward to updates.
Ron,
That is going to be an awesome build. The interior shot was at maximum awesomeness levels. Really liked the overall look of the interior. Very nice detailing and weathering effects. Keep up the good work.

James, your Marder looks good so far. Going for an overall dark yellow vehicle?
Ron, excellent interior. It will look stunning and hopefully most will be visible when the 251 is finished.

Ola Guys
Well last update for this figure. I now start to realise I finally managed to finish something in a campaign before the deadline was there. Which really makes me happy. This is the last set of pictures. The figure is finished. It is on a base, it got a name. Up to the next figure.
And it managed to get a prize too at the KMK scaleworld this year it managed to pick away a bronze medal. Which I did not counted on too much after seeing the competition in my category. But still a happy Camper.
