Has the Eduard armor addressed this variable thickness issue with their PE set? Have you any close up photos you could share?
Thanks

Eduard make of only additional armor according to circa 500 detail photos from me. For use Eduard additional armor you must use model armor plate and cut off all detail. He know that add on set plate 0.8 mm is no good and very expensive. I think that Voyager help modeler with build but make off unrealistic armor plate.

Joe, Looking at the specs given would it be safe to assume that no two assembled and mounted kits on a Stryker would be exactly alike? I mean apart from the obvious errors that one could make putting this together for a model, I would think there is some latitude (albeit small) on spacing right? Just thinking ahead for my own sake if I try to enter this in a contest.

Just one look at the PAM kit makes me regret the amount of $$ I spent on the Eduard Set(s). I might have to wait and unload those now, and order this set. Any idea of what US Vendor would carry this?

No , not really. The Army is provided a slat kit, which is mass produced by a contractor to the same specs, so there are no differences in spacing or anything else. Anything that is homemade by a unit, such as hillbillie armor or what they are now calling ghetto armor on the Stryker, could fall into that category I suppose. The Stryker, in-country, is beginning to look the vehicles from the movie Mad Max with all kind of unit add-ons, but one thing that is constant, is the slat armor itself. One thing that I noticed recently is that the extended lights have been moved back towards the winch cover.

However, the powers-that-be have okayed ERA for the Stryker. When we will see it is an unknown for the likes of me, but it is apparently being produced. I have also read they have tweaked slat in a few ways, but I have not seen photos, and I do not know in what way it has been "updated.' but I do not believe that has reached the troops yet either.

Finally, just to stir things up even more, I have heard that there is another variant being planned, but I can not say more at this point. Sorry to be a tease ...

Gary - that is a way cool model.

Sorry to confuse the teaser issue; not a model, the real thing. Something to do w/ the Red Legs...

Excellent!!! Finally, I should be able to model a combat zone Stryker without having to spend half my life supergluing 1,000 parts into slat armor. I'm sure it will only be a matter of time before some aftermarket outfit releases the ERA set.

I just want to emphasize this is "in the works" and despite having been okayed months ago, if not over a year ago, it is anybody's guess when this will get to a real unit. I believe the 56th is the next scheduled Stryker unit to deploy, and they will not be taking ERA trucks with them, so far as is planned. I suppose if it was deemed important enough vehicles could be retrofitted in the field, but I would think the Army would want whole brigades to train with them before deployment.

Another Stryker we have heard very little about are the handful of Full Spectrum trucks that are with 4/2 at this moment. They have non-lethal weapons mounted. I suppose the current situation in Iraq does not call for use of these type of weapons much. Plus, they are more of a test bed I suppose, but nonetheless the Army usually likes to publicize this sort of equipment more than I have seen.

We would like our opinion on the different PE kits around the markets. If you did already the build, please fell free to post our opinion about if (fair and constructive).
Seb and Bill

so, you want me to give you your opinion?
just kidding

I really appreciate this "blog" after reading the wealth of info on here, Im near certain of what all I want to use in order to build my first Stryker! I would like to make a couple of suggestions though.. first, Im sure months from now someone will post a "what stryker stuff should I get" question..Itd be nice if this blog was saved and kept somewhere with easy access. as well as to see more "blogs" like this one one other subjects...Im sure it would be very popular and a great help to numerous modelers.

This was Seb's idea and you're right it should be archived in a way to preserve the links and images but I have no idea what force of nature it'll take to accomplish that. My hopes is that it'll keep growing however fast (or slow) as the evolution of the Stryker does, who knows where it will be in a few months. Surely more PE and more resin, some books and great debates. Any vehicle that has created this much interest would be well served by such a blog as will the modelers who build them.
If Robert is correct there will be a whole new set of issues to talk about and model about, there's life in this blog yet.

I really appreciate your kind words on this blog, maybe people from Armorama should create a special feature call Compendium thread where people will exchange info and kit details on a very specific vehicles.

I would like to thanks all of the contributors of this post, it was my idea at the beginning but without the invaluable help of Bill and many others, this blog will not be informative as it is know.

This blog has been create by modelers for modelers with the help of Manufacturers: Real Model with Miroslav, PAM wiht Hugo and Dirk and finally with Voyager.

TO my knowledge this is the only one with this format

I hope that a new section will be create, according to Jim this is the period of the year to do that, I should PM him

Cheers
Seb

All right
It seems that some questions have been raised concerning the unique media for Slat: PE.

Question about Plastic Slat kit from John aka Ellevenbravo

Well please let share your idea on that, well PAM has already start in this way with the resins part.

So it seems doable, right.???
Let start the discussion on that ??

Cheers
Seb

hi all

after a few days (weeks) I'm frustrating while I'm writing this lines

Quoted Text partial
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
here is some economical data on the available kits:

Eduard
Slat 54.95, Add on armor 24.95, Suspension cover+ detail set 22.95, exhaust cover 6.95 total = 109.8 $
No blast shield included

Griffon
Slat included, Add on armor included, Suspension and blast shield included, exhaust cover include total = 231.6 $
No detail set included

Voyager
Slat included, Add on armor included, Suspension and detail set included total = 99.9
No blast shield included

Pro Art Model 95 €

Seb

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I spent 100$ to find out that the Voyager kit is not accurate enough to buy it!
ok, I can use any small parts to upgrade the Stryker, but the SLAT I can throw out of the window.

hope someone else tell us which other AM-kit is state of the art to buy.

cheers

Wow, the griffon set has gone from apparently being the highest priced to now the cheapest set, I kinda guessed it would be cheaper from Lucky model(only have to compare their hobby fan prices to western prices) This definitely looks like the best one to buy-you get the most for your money!

This is a great thread you guys! I made up my mind to "unload" my Eduard sets on the "for sale forum" and hope for another set that won't try my patience as much.

For those of you in the US, RJ Enterprises will be carrying the PAM set once it is released and after speaking with them, they are aware of the interest it will generate.
