Dear All
It seems that there is a big buz around the Stryker nowadays:
Trumpeter M1134 & M1130
Blast M1132 STRYKER ESV - VEE BLADE
AFV Stryker MGS
If I forget something please correct here
Cheers

Nailcreek, looks like you've been overwhelmed with information and choices.
As with what Arnold and Gary says this thread tells you what's what.
I'm no expert and I'm just starting out with 2 Stryker variants myself--an ICV and a "Rhino" version, so I keep referring to this thread and others to cross check, as well as keep searching the forums for something specific.
As far as I know and googled, all Stryker variants in Iraq use Slat armor, the Blast panels came at a slightly later date perhaps.?
1) Correct, since AFVs RWS is better than Trumps.
I used Eduard's sets for AFV 's Stryker ICV :
2) 36002
3) 36011
Should also need the Exhaust deflector TP 087. (not sure if these were issued in the 1st Strykers sent to Iraq.
Suspension covers are included with Eduard's Detail set. (if you're using another detail set --like I use Voyager's version, the Suspension covers are bought separate.)
Lucky model carries Eduard's, Voyager and Griffon models, so do a search there for "Stryker" and you can see the respective sets available for the respective Stryker kits. I would like to get Pro-arts set as well.. All avail slat armor, etc sets have their pros and cons, I don't much care what it is since I will be buying and getting all of them..Strykers are way too interesting just to build one or two..
4) If you mean what other Stryker variants are there? There are many certainly more than 10. So we are seeing just a few kits becoming available of these, and I'm sure more will come.

1. New RWS from AFV for the Trump kit.
2. Slat armor (which one?)
3. Add-on armor plate (which one?)

As a simple answer based on my opinions if you want to make a good looking OIF stryker use the following sets:
AFV club stryker, (might be good to go with the M1130 kit as it improves upon the m1126 kit, and includes the suspension guards)
Voyager basic etch set
Voyager resin RWS (this isnt a must have but its crisper and better detailed than the plastic RWS)
Griffon model slat armor(this is everything you need in one set, blast panels, slat, exhaust deflector, i believe it also includes the headlight extensions and blast panels for the hull roof)
Blast models stowage sets 1 and 2( Superbly detailed and the stowage racks with molded in gear look so much better than putting your own stuff into the kit racks)
If you wish to add some crew, go with the Hobby Fan crew set as it includes the RWS spent rounds basket, and the figures are awesome!
That lot will cost a hell of a lot, best bet is go to lucky model, they do free postage on a lot of stuff and seem to do the best prices.

have started building the Edward PE slat I have about 1 complete side done
it has taken about 4 months (intermitatly) to get that far
I will be honest I would rather pay 50 or so dollars for a reasonablly good plastic slat armor kit. I feel it could be done in sections If Dragon and such companys can mold some of those intricate stowage baskets than they certainly could mold sections of the slat
I have done many kits with PE including some heavey detailed ships and this PE slat sucks big time far too much work takes all the flippin fun out of building give me a plastic kit even if it is not the most accurate thing on the market
My 2 cents

Hello, friends!
Somebody can make more detailed comparison of all four sets (Slat)?
I want to start build my Stryker 1126 or 1130 with Slat and it is necessary to understand, what set to buy..
I tend to a Pro Art Models set (PAU-35026), but I am not assured.
Help, please

Hi Seb
I'd be happy to help, but I must say that the Stryker is not really one of my favourite AFVs so I have not gathered as many pics as for other US vehicles like the M113 or the AAV. However that may be, I will gladly send some to anyone needing them. Most of them (=about 60 pics) are hi-res OIF pics (sorry no details close-ups)...

Frenchy,
I've purchased a few Stryker models and in the process of getting all reference I can for these models I would love to see the photos you have if you still have them.
Thanks,
Dave

I didnt read through this entire thread, so it might have been posted before, but the MGS slat is 1" wide and all the Strykers that have the EFP skirts have the new 1" wide Slat to reduce weight.
FYI, so roughly the old SLAT is good for models prior to the 56th SBCT deployment in 2009.

Hi all....
OK, im about 80% done with the Griffon slat set (with all but the rear 2 corner panels assembled and installed)...here is my comments on what ive learned
-- Griffon set (as has been pointed out by others) is the best bet. You get it all...slat, blast panels, exhaust deflector, headlight extensions, and even some other bits (such as the headlight electrical cable covers). What you DONT get is the rear door armor panels that cover the hatch handle/linkage, and suspension covers. suspension covers are no big deal, as they either come in the kit (M1130 and later) or Voyager has them.
-- If you want a good complement with the Griffon set, Voyager M1126 or M1130 set is perfect and covers all the stuff that is not in the Griffon set. Just be aware that the Voyager set details up a non-slat, non extra armor stryker so some details are not applicable, but you will use about 80-90% of the set. Also, the treatment of tie down loops in the voyager set is MUCH better...the loops have small pegs that fit into holes...Griffon has you glue them on flush...PITA!
--Neither set comes with RWS stuff, except the voyager set gives you the mount. So if you want a super detailed RWS, pick up the Voyager set. Honestly, the AFV club RWS is very nice, and if you replace the barrel, add some wires, you will have a really nice peice. One thing is the smoke grenades seem a little underscale in the AFV club kit.
Construction:
-- USE A SQUARE!!! make sure as you assemble the panels that everything is square. If you dont the compounding error will make your life hell when it comes time to assemble everything together. Also make sure that the side armor panels are lined up perfectly, as the support brackets for the slat attach to specfic points on the side armor.
-- I suggest assembling the side slat armor all together in one stage, vs the instructions which have you assemble each panel then assemble. Start with one end, make the basic frame, then assemble the next frame, THEN fill in the slats on the first frame, add the 3rd frame, fill in the 2nd, etc. Assemble everything flat, and pushed up against at framing square. I just taped a square to a plank of hardwood (because I was soldering) and assembled everything on the wood.
-- I used a combo CA glue/ soldering. Keep in mind that I used a "cold" soldering unit, or resisitance soldering unit...so I had much more control over the heat location, which is critical when doing such close tolerance work as this. I started out soldering the main frames and braces, and anything that might be under stress or strain, then glued in the slat and smaller parts. At some point I just started soldering everything when I could, untill I started assembing the cage to teh model and then soldered 2 or 3 of the braces (the Griffion side armor panels are in PE brass, so I could solder the brass supports to this and the cage). Then I used CA to attach all the remaining braces. In the end, CA would probally would have worked for all of it, especally if your careful with alignment and keep everything square.
in the end, the cage once attached to the model is pretty darn sturdy.
Some specfics on the Griffon set, its awesomly detailed, everything fits very well, and I had no problems fitting it to the AFV club kit other than my own mis-alignment issues. Its engineered in such a way that if somebody was crazy enough, you could make all the hinges and lower slat panels actully move and lock with pins!
hope this helps...feel free to ask questions. Ill post some pics at some point too.
Andy

Hello Andy,
thank you very much for sharing your experiences with us. Griffon is my favorite, too.
One question: Does Griffon also have this little workable "window" in the front area of the Slat package, as Voyager does?
Thanks!
Also, I'm glad to hear the news from Miloslav. Finally a company does the MGS slat!

So what happened to this thread? This is a great asset here, especially for all of us that are new or getting back in and have no experience with the Stryker kits. Maybe some of you guys that posted here previously can put up some pictures of your completed Strykers and tell us what kits and sets you used. Maybe even include what were the problems you encountered and what were the highlights of the kit/set. This is a really valuable asset here and can really help guys like me who are planning on building these kits to have a place to come and ask questions. Keep it going and when I start building mine I will be posting questions here and hopefully there will be someone(s) to answer me. Cheers.

WoW this is a great reference point for all Stryker info on the kits an the stuff they used. Without this I would have never wanted to build one but with this thread it is very helpful and got me back into wanting to try a Stryker.

I have a question does the Stryker 1132 have to have the slat armor because I couldn't see how the mine plow and the slat armor would work when the mine plow was in the upright position an not being used.
I seen a lot of extra stuff on some other web sites about a engine , driver seat, interior for the 1126. I know the other kits could use all the extra detail but I am not sure if the Stryker 1132 would slat armor would fit.
Any help would be helpful an appreciated.
