Wow Paul, your build is advancing so quickly! I can't wait to see the completed product when you're done.

Well, I've finally gotten some work done for my Firefly! I've gotten two coats of paint on, so that's done!! Now, I'm doing some basic detail painting, and then next up are the tracks

Thanks Zaltar,

I've since washed it ready for Primer (tomorrow).

A nice coat of paint and some shading before the weekend is over

Then the fun starts !!

Not any more

I didn't like the Hovercraft Conversion ....

It's Green now

The same color as Jim Caswell's in his excellent Blog:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/169232/message/1203572477/Preliminary+painting+complete

Gunze Sangyo H340 Field Green, with a little Tamiya Smoke Post shading (this thing will have LOT of Dust Anyway !!).

Decals and Detail Painting in the next few days - then the Weathering fun starts !!

Cheers

Lol, you should have kept the "cushions" on the tracks. It looks sort of like a hovercraft.

Your paint job looks fantastic! I'm highly anticipating the final weathering, but judging by the rest of your work, it should be spectacular!

Well people, we have 5 days left. If you have a started model that you can't finish in time, let me know and I'll grant you an extension for as long as you need to finish.

Hopefully I'll have the detail painting and the decals / clearcoat done tomorrow.

I'll post pics then....

Weathering will take a while with all of that Dusty Dust !

Cheers

I finally got a perfect mix of colors, and I painted my Firefly. I started out with a deeper shade of green, which completely covered the vehicle as a base coat, other than the black shadows under the fenders which only got a light dusting. Afterwards, I made a lighter shade with a mix of DecoArt's Light Avocado and Cashmere to create the over coat. This was applied to the entire model in fairly light coats, to create a shadowed effect covering the hull and turret.

I apologize for the quality of the pic, it was a rather rushed shot...

I LOVE this vehicle and the MLM Conversion ....

When MLM is back up I'll be doing another (with a Dozer blade attached)

It's now painted, and coated with Vallejo Satin Clear Coat.

The decals are on (the Troop markings have not been added at the time that this vehicle is portrayed), and the next step is finishing the stowage and doing the weathering

Oils first, then some nice Dusty pigments

Here's a quick shot of where I'm at :

The crew are REALLY happy their "Beast" is almost ready for deployment

This vehicle is Call sign 12, the troop officers vehicle with the Canadian Forces Registration (CFR) number 78-85134, B Squadron Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians), Afghanistan early 2007 - before the IED Electronic's were added to the turret.

I'm dedicating this build to Anthony Sewards who has been a fantastic help, and is just an aweseom bloke !!

Cheers,

Paul

It's a great subject, and it's just so awesome getting tips from a tank commander and subject matter expert.

I've learn't so much in this build on the subject but also about Modern armor in general.

Like I said Anthony you have been awesome...

Thanks again !

Paul

David: Don't worry about the Stryker questions, it's no big deal. May I just ask you to take one more picture and post it to the campaign gallery? The regulations for the campaign are two posted pictures for the ribbon.

Byron: Glad to hear that you're still going, and I can't wait to see your finished model!

I've now painted the road wheels on my Firefly, along with the other detail painting. Next up I think is painting the track links and then gluing them together...

I am trying to submit a couple pics of the jeep mounted 106mmRCL I used to ride around on, but being a newbie was wondering how to submit photos to a campaign.

Jim: I'm glad to see that you still had a chance to finish your build! Can't wait to see the pics!

Well everybody, this is it. In some places, it's already July 1st, so you know what that means. The True North Strong and Free Campaign is over. Happy Canada Day to everybody! In the end, we had quite a few completed models, enough to showcase the Canadian Armed Forces quite adequately. So thank you to all who finished their builds; but I also have to thank those who enlisted world-wide but never got the chance to finish or even start. Most of all, thanks to the Canadian Armed Forces Personnel, from all eras for doing their duty in keeping the True North strong and Free.

Now for the ribbons:

For completing The True North Strong and Free Campaign on Armorama, the following members have been awarded the True North Strong and Free Ribbon for representing the Canadian Forces:

Paul Tosney of British Columbia, Canada
Callsign: paultoz

Guy Swidley of Alberta, Canada
Callsign: mtnflyer

Miloslav Hraban of Praha, Czech Republic
Callsign: bulivyf

Olivier Carneau of Oise, France
Callsign: bison126

Carmen Manning of Alberta, Canada
Callsign: csmanning

Anthony Sewards of Alberta Canada
Callsign: recceboy

David Roberts of East Anglia, England
Callsign: littlebear573

Congratulations to all those who finished! I will be taking extensions for anybody who was unable to finish their entries, so feel free to either send me a message or just post your pictures on here and the gallery.

Thanks again to everybody who enlisted, and in a few years, we may just have a True North Strong and Free 2 Campaign.

Cheers!

I should have mine done sometime tomorrow - I ran out of paint on Sunday and the local hobby shop is only open from Wed - Sat. So I bought more paint today and will get it finished off shortly.

Thanks,
Karl
