Great work, Alan. Nice painting of the details on the building and the worn look of the street.

Julian, impressive building. Looking forward to see more.

looking great alan fantastic ground work like the flowers. my progress has slowed a bit having problems with the painting. trying not to repeat colours is hard.trying ti pick colours for block paving that doesn't look to much like the pavement.

fantastic work Bruce. Pity some of the detail will be buried by snow though.

My own factory building has gone to another cause as one of my friend said they'd like it as a birthday present so I finished it with her in mind

barbarabirthdaypresent

But I do have my other smaller urban dio to continue with.

Talk about bloody confusing! Right I appear to have worked it out at last. I decided that the interior of the building was a bit small for what I intended as it's going to be one of a number in a street scene so I stuck a couple of interior walls in and put my own floor in up and down. (thanks McDonalds for all those coffee stirrers)

I've done the floor upstairs in two halves so I can still work on the downstairs and once downstairs is finished then I can sort out the damage to the top floor. I didn't want a building that was gutted just some artillery damage hence the downstairs walls are intact to suggest a back to the house albeit damaged hence the rubble in the hallway.

I'm experimenting with a modular approach seeing as there'll be a few buildings so I'm not even thinking about starting work on the street until my buildings are done and are occupied. I know it's a weird way of working but I've got the picture in my head

Very nice Karl, but any chance of shining some light into those rooms so we can actually see what you've done in there? Looks great, but a bit dark

Alan - what figure is that? I take it he's just having a bit of a kip - planning on adding kit/rifle/helmet around him?

after all of the small details i could do, i have decided that this is going to be finished. i have one minor thing to do but it wont effect the outcome. i just have to use a little caulk around the edge where the diorama and the frame meet to help tidy that up.
i have horrible lighting so, i may take a few more during the daylight hours outside. but here are the photos

im also looking to name this one but i havent come up with a good name. any suggestions?

as you can see, by the overhead shot, it isnt a typical shaped building. this is because of the angle and the placement. so, as you see from the shot on the back, what i had done is taken some sheets of balsa, stained it, and applied it to the portion of the building that would normally continue on. so i used the stained balsa to represent that its a kind of a void as if it is cut off.

since deserts are typically void of just about anything and desert buildings are almost bland, i didnt want it to be boring and have images and vehicles stick out too much because of the bland background. so, i decided to add a doorway in the arch. that wasnt preplanned until i got the structure together. also, making the surface of the building was almost impossible without having blemmishes show up. so, i added a texture. i also had to place random vegetation. deserts arent well known for vegetation, but patchy grass/shrubs are pretty common in africa photos. so, i thought it would be a good way to add a little life to the scene. and, instead of having the scene end at the archway, i added a barrel and more grasswork on the other side to fill up some dead space.
my intention when i first started planning was much different than what i ended up with. i started thinking of a halftrack in europe. so, i pretty much went 180 on this and used a kit i had started but no plan for.. the scene i intended originally was action packed and i wanted to carry that over even though i was changing the scene completely. i started gathering ideas had thought of my days when i used to play battlefield 1942, the el alamein map. snipers would typically sit on top of the buildings with random tanks driving by on their way to another base. so, using that idea i wanted to give a sense of urgency and action by having the tank commander pointing out orders or vice versa.
i found it hard to find figures for tank commanders with the right pose. but, i found perfect figures for what you see. so, the figure on the step was used to represent a soldier that has been keeping watch of enemy movement from top of the building. the tank had come by and stopped. the soldier came off the roof top, keeping mindful to keep himself from silhouetting himself and keeping a low profile as he came down the steps to point out enemy location.
also, added the figure to make sure the area is secure but being cautious while doing it.
so, as you can see, i gave the scene as much of a self telling story as much as i could.

Jesse, I really like it. The weathering on the Tiger is spot on. My only critique is that the top of the dwelling looks a little bare. Leaves a bit of a dead space. Maybe some washing drying, general Arab junk lying about. Aside from that can't fault it. Like the connection between the AK infantryman (pointing to an unseen threat) and the tank commander. It's something quite often lacking in dios as everyone seems to be looking in different directions and there's no interaction between the individual figures. Nice dio mate!

any suggestions for the top would be appreciated. i dont have the slightest idea of what to put up there.
its been mentioned that something should be put up there. i was going to put another figure, but i decided against it. ive been thinking of putting a crude table up there. but, it isnt something that you would see.on a roof in africa.(as far as i know). its the only part of the dio that im not happy with. as you mentioned, its a large dead area.but, i also dont want to put random junk just to fill space. if im going to put anything, i want to stay with a sense of realism if i can
also, some better photos in natural light....i apologize for the white spot on the right. there is a white piece of fuzz on the inside of the lense. cannot be removed and i dont have the slightest idea of how it got in there.

As for a name, I was thinking somewhere along the lines of "Planning the next step".

Great work Bruce and I see you have added your images to the campaign gallery Remember everyone you don't get the ribbon unless you have three photos in the gallery.

thanks Alan and Pat, don't know how i managed to be the first one to post in the gallery LOL.

keen to see all the progress on everyone's dioramas. just remember you're working on what many would say is the hardest category in modeling as it's not just the finishing of vehicles but mastering figures, building bases and features and maintaining a standard throughout each step to keep everything tied in.

most importantly you're adding your own creativity to create a scene and everyone should be proud of their results. keep plugging away as we all are eager to see how your efforts turn out.

cheers, bd.
