Thanks Jeremy and Al for your comments. I use acrylic paints, but brand wise it's not that easily a quick answer. Basically I use whatever I have at hand, but for these particular figures the skin tones are from Andrea Color. Leather is from ModelMaster. The blue-grey uniform was a varied home mix using Polyscale's azure blue as a starting point. The field grey uniform was first sprayed on using Tamiya with further detailing brush painted with Vallejo's brand of German fieldgrey. Also used some Doc O'Brien's weathering powders - brown for the dirt stains and black for the beard stubble.
regards,
Jack

Hello, Jeremy!
Si's HMS Kent is the Monmouth Class cruiser and was part of the Falkland Squadron, which brought down Spee and his squadron. It's very eligible.
I am not quite certain, if I can participate, but I will continue to watch and may join in as occasion arises.
Cheers,
Guido

Jack: Thank you for your prompt reply, I will see if I can follow suit with my future figure attempts.
Steve: This campaign is about promoting awareness of WWI, it is not based on skill so just have fun and enjoy yourself
Guido: If you are wondering whether or not ships are allowed in this campaign, the answer is yes! If you mean that you are not certain whether or not you will have time, well that is completely understandable. Either way your input is always welcome, cheers

Oh, great! I should really check my writing, before posting and running off
Indeed, I was asking, if ships were permitted. Anyway, with all the commitments on the workbench for group builds, magazine articles, kit developments and writings for other publications, I am still wondering, if I can find the time. Basically I am trying to get my schedule sorted so I do not burn myself out. However I find this campaign especially support-worthy as -IMHO- the WWI topic is well under-represented: Look at the slim choice of figures e.g. to accompany the available vehicles and guns.
I was originally planning to do the Mk.I Gun Carrier, but it seems to be a long shot. I have a number of WWI kits in my stash (land, water, air), many of them much less complicated than the Gun Carrier, so there are choices to just pop in.
I find it encouraging that there are already 6 pages of communication about the topic evenbefore the campaign has even started!
Cheers,
Guido

Guido: I agree on all of your points! That is why I felt so strongly that we needed a Kitmaker-wide campaign representing all aspects of WWI And I understand you thoughts on possible builds. I myself would like to build up that old Tauro A7V to modern standards or the solid resin MB Mk IV I have, but they will both demand a certain level of commitment that may not be possible. I'm still going to shoot for the Mk IV and see what I can do
Thankfully there are plenty of excellent kits representing the warbirds of WWI in 1/72, 1/48, and 1/32 and I hope that we will see a good number of them being built for this campign
Alan: Those are excellent heads, unfortunately I'm not sure if there is a straightforward solution for bodies. Masterclub's only British figures are a pair of crewmen for a Lewis gun. Andrea makes and excellent figure, but he is running and is rather expensive being that he is made from metal. The Japanese Armour King had a good selection as we mentioned before, I just don't know how to obtain them anymore.
Does anybody else have any thoughts regarding this?

Regarding Hornet British Heads, I think the only 1/35 scale figures available is the ICM set.

I was surprised by the scarcity of WW I figures too.
Earlier in the discussions of this campaign, I was reading/Googling about American units and saw that the U.S. Army had been segregated at the time. Black U.S. combat units were attached to French units, who fully appreciated their contributions, and being attached as such, they wore American uniforms with the French "Adrian" helmet. To try to tell this little bit of history, I just needed some figures in American WW I uniforms, with black faces and French helmets. Sounds easy, right? It's pushing the limits. Hornet makes "African" bald heads and French heads with Adrian helmets. Nobody seems to make American WWI figures, so they would have to be scratched or modified from British.
That's entirely not worth it, so I'm making a truck. Don't worry though, it'll be a nice truck.

There is Scalelink - 54mm white metal figures from the UK. They carry a number of American "doughboys" and even have a head set depicting Blacks with the Adrian helmet.

Nice find, Jack. I hadn't thought of looking in 54mm or metal. Only available from one place in England, but at least that's better than I could sculpt myself.
Thanks!

Sean - that's np. Should be made aware though that I don't think Scalelink's figures are up to the quality one expects to find today, (at least not the two British figures I have). Expect to do a lot of clean up work.
If you really are keen on doing that specific subject you had described above, I'd suggest getting the headset from Scalelink, and combine it with one or both of the following:
Metal Models
JMD Miniatures
Found these at
Soga-Miniatures
Typing in individual searches on the various years of WW1 (1914,1915, etc.) on the site's search engine, one can actually find a good number of figures of the different nationalities.
regards,
Jack

Aircraft are very welcome. As you've indirectly pointed out, there is an abundance of good aircraft kits representing this time period.

Very good Darek, I hope we can look forward to seeing a lot of Airfix armor in this campaign
Just a heads up for everyone, I will be starting a separate thread a day or two before the campaign starts to help keep things tidy. At that time this thread will be locked. Cheers

That is a good idea! Please add a link to the campaign main page and the gallery in the first post, so one (i.e. me) doesn't have to keep searching for it.

Yes, the ICM boxart depicts the pose of the four figures.
I've provided a shot of one corner of the spru, I'd say the detail is on par with Tamiya figures.

Jack
