Found a few images of captured Schlepper sWS

http://www.pietvanhees.nl/sws/period/soft_captured_camo_lf.jpg
http://www.pietvanhees.nl/sws/period/soft_fl_captured.jpg

Someone could get the 'Great Wall Hobby' kit add some stars and a bit of O/D... top picture would make a great diorama as in the un-cut picture you can see a Sherman with loads of kit stack on it pulling the sWS out!

Thanks Duncan. Spent a great deal of time yesterday doing some research and i decided my first build will be a captured Vichy French Renault R35 used by the Australian 6th Divisional Cavalry in Syria. Something i've been wanting to do for awhile after seeing a photo of one on the war memorial site.

Now i just have to figure out where i can get a little "Aussie" to hang out the back of the turret and what paint scheme to use, Vichy French tanks in Africa is not a broadly covered subject!
It's difficult to tell from black and white, but in some photos they definately have camo schemes. The only info i could find so far was that they were "probably" in their original colours from service in France.
Cheers,
Tim

Hi Tim, I found this book about the R35! it might help some pictures down the bottom, can't see any Vichey ones but might help? but I think your right about using standard French camo-patterns.

http://www.minitracks.fr/r35.htm

or this next one... sorry all in French but HUGE amount of images should keep you going for days!

I generally modify my builds, and I've only done one tracked vehicle ever, but reading about Tamiya's Char b1 bis in German modifications, I REALLY like it! I'd build that straight out of the box! Then I saw it was $50 on sale ($70 MSRP), and I realized that's WAY above my price range. I'm going to think about this one for the next several months-- maybe Christmas will be good to me!
Otherwise, there are plenty of photos of American GI's rolling around in captured Schwimmwagens. That's the other way I might go.
I have to finish by May 31st, 2012? I'll have something decided by then.
thanks,
Sean.

Going over my finances I realized that I shouldn't be buying too much stuff anymore (summer fieldschool is expensive). However, I do have the important elements for this little baby...

10,5 cm LeFH.18 auf. SFL B2

I'm still contemplating whether or not I should just cover the top or build an imaginary interior

That's a brilliant choice there Benjamin, certainly got a high silhouette would have stuck on in open country!

Go for the interior! someone here may have some good suggestions or ideas ... if you get stuck or don't like it stick a tarp on the top!

Benjamin: Great choice, have a go at an interior!
Duncan: Thanks for those links mate. I had come across the first one but not the second, so many photos!!
After doing some more research I'm pretty satisfied that the Renault I plan to model from the photo below was in the early "plain" olive green that French tanks were finished in pre-war. Apparently it was not uncommon to find R35's in green during the french campaign and the vehicle in the photo had the older style turret and seems to be in a monotone colour, so is likely to have been finished that way. Will order the model and paint next pay!
Here's a link to the photo.

everybody,
Just enlisted. Not exactly sure what I'm going to build yet, but it's going to be in 'antiperspirant' (4BO green. Maybe a captured half-track, or a Char Bis in soviet service...decisions, decisions.

Hey all! I also just enlisted and...

My Trumpeter Pzkpfw KV-2 just came yesterday! This thing is huge!

Re-doing my model room as well, got myself a HUGE cork board, with half white-board as well, plenty of room for ref pics, and notes. It's great!

I was think about what model to do and finally make a decision!! soooooooo many choices when I happened upon this....

http://tanks.deagostini.co.uk/chat/yaf_postst606p2_Panthers-reused.aspx

I've always had a soft spot for the old Panther Tanks and I did know of 'Cuckoo', but was a bit frighten off building my own because of it's 'Celebrity' status! (I was frightened of the Rivet-counter no-fun Police)! but after a trawl of ebay I realized that many kits available of other Afv's that are one-offs... so in for a penny in for a pound! this is what I'll build!

I've ordered the Dragon 6370 Panther G so there I'm committed (literally ) does anybody know of a manufacturer of British Tank crew in winter overalls??? like these.............................

http://www.ww2incolor.com/britain/Cuckoo1.html

One more link for you all = 'Cuckoo' again! plus a O/D King Tiger and Stug111 in US Army markings.

http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=85&t=16930

Hope all is well with you all and that you are being more decisive with your modeling projects!

Thanks for the heads up on the MiliArt figures there Kimmo.... I've check them out on the old interweb they look good! not really painted many figures so it will be a learning process.

Does everybody know of this web site ..... http://www.primeportal.net/the_battlefield_armor.htm .... it's new to me with walk-arounds of loads of Afv stuff!

Jeremy... it's got a Japanese M3 on there!

I see we now have 17 people enlisted a very warm welcome to all the latest people

Yep. I've spent hours leeching at these sites: Primeportal , but also on SVSM an Dishmodels (especially good for Russian armor)

At least, those are my three favorites...

Wow! That's quite a resource for photos of just about everything.
I also found, for someone who likes to modify truck bodies, THIS site showing nice sketches and photos of Morris trucks captured at Dunkirk and pressed into German service throughout the rest of WW II. It's not close to the Italeri or Tamiya quad gun tractor bodies, so some effort in kitbashing, but it would make a cool addition to the collection.

Benjamin .... Great links thanks some really good stuff here, I especially liked the Dishmodels site.
Also regarding your 10,5 cm LeFH.18 auf. SFL B2 your going to build for the campign, you mention having a go at the interior? I just got a Dragon Geschutzwagon 38M fur s.IG.33/2 = would you like me to copy the instructions as that has the interior layout with radios, racks etc... might help you along?

Sean......... great link also, I liked the one of the Morris in use in Crete! you can also get a website called Engines of the Red Army must be done by the same people!

Question how do you do your links it's a lot neater and smarter than the way I do it????

Thanks Duncan: I'd really like that. Also as a general cry-out: if anyone has scale plans or pictures of the stowage layout on either the Sd.Kfz.124 Wespe or the 10.5cm leFH18 auf Geschutzwagen 39H(f), please send me a PM. I'm not buying into the fully covered floor that Best Value Models (read Azimut) provides. Would be a huge waste of space with such a big fighting compartment beneath you...

On the referenced site, I copy the web address to my clipboard, then I come back here to post a reply and hit the [url=] button (bottom of the reply window) and replace the " http://put.url.here" with the copied text, and replace "linkname" with the text you want to appear on your reply.
It took a lot of reading the "BB-CODE HELP" at the bottom of the reply window, and using the edit until it showed correctly.
This site is neat when it works, but it has a long learning curve. There's much I don't know, so it's fun to show off what I do know.

I'm in too for this one..
A German KV /Su-76or a Russian Panzer IV.

If I had the time I'd get a Tiran Conversion.. maybe for an IDF campaign.

I'll stick to my current stash... german KV tank from trumpeter or a Su76 from Miniart.
