I got a bit stuck building my Dragon Panther G, why are their instruction/hieroglyphics so poor! anyway on a mad search of the web for info I stumbled across a real beauty and a possible change of model for me!

When I first got the idea for this Campaign it was down to a Half-track image, and this one has really caught my eye, so the KT is being left in the stash and a Trumpeter 01526 - German 3.7cm Flak 37 auf Selbstfahrlafette (Sd.Kfz 7/2 LATE Version) is on the wish list for Christmas from the kids.
I never done a white-washed vehicle, or a knocked out / burnt AFV for that matter!? but I like a challenge so something like this below combined with the above image!

Right back to the Panther...
All the best.
Regards Duncan.

Alright Duncan, I have my 1/72 Sherman kit to recreate this photo:

but I'll need a lot of help and guidance from the good folks here as to how to approach the terrain aspect, in particular the sand...

Jeremy, my 1st approach would be to start with a nice thick piece of Styrofoam, after that i have no idea how to do the water and sand But I am looking forward to seeing your build

Thanks Sal I think what I want to do is avoid building things up too much, so I am going to saw off a portion of the tank that won't be seen. This way I can mount it directly to the hard base and not have to worry about any structural problems. I also plan on using resin, but it would be in a thin layer so it may stay cool enough to not melt foam.

Jeremy ..... I would cut the tank in half at the angle/depth you are looking for, then I would use a base (about say 5mm deep and lets say its rectangular) either foam or balsa with and irregular hole bigger than the tank in the middle. Then mount this base on top of a same size rectangle, but with no hole in it, mount the Sherman in the middle of your irregular hole, then using an as yet suggested we sand technique + HELP HERE GUYS = mold/work the base and tank together.
Next using a water effect (see below) level off the irregular hole to the tanks so it appears to be sat in a pool of water = hope that makes sense, remember that the more angles you can use in relation to the tank/turret and base the better.

Thanks Duncan! I noticed that the water around the tank is extremely murky, but it also has a light ripple from the ocean breeze rolling across it. I'll have to look those links over a little more in depth and see if there is a way to properly approach this.

Ah Duncan, i see you found my BT-7!!! This is the case;

I was hang out in the pub drinking wodka and beer with my cummunist comrades. Really drunk i made a bet i can drink and drive my little tank
So i went in and drive. The next day i woke up all wet in my bed and didnt remember a thing... With a really big hangover i went back to the pub to ask my comrades what happend last night The only thing i found was a piece of left fender next to a tree by the road next to the river...

The communist party commisar was very mad and discharged me from the army and party with a ''nice winter hollyday'' he said, in Siberia for then years...

I normally leave it for a while before a 'Bump' but a chat with a friend made me think of a whole new area of 'Knocked Out' Military hardware, and I had to share ((7 or so weeks to go to) .... Range Targets! every Army has them and the list must be endless.

Hi, first time campaigner here, is it ok to have a build that is a wheeled vehicle that's been knocked out?
I have a shelf that's full of humvees and have thought about building up a knocked out one before, maybe an ambushed convoy?

Many Thanks

Hi Martin your welcome to join in with a Humvee, in fact any Military Vehicle is allowed in this campaign we have quite a few wheelers being built come the start date, Puma, Humvee and maybe a Half-Track.
Remember your Humvee does'nt have to be shot up it can be incapacitated by the elements = mud, sand or ice etc... or involved in a road accident.
I was reading FSM yesterday I see there are quite a few upgraded/armored Humvee kits about any ideas on which kit you'll build? anyway welcome aboard Martin.

Here are some photo's of a Roll-Over at work which make for some interesting viewing and some great references to wear and tear on a tracked machine, I know it's not military but I thought you all might enjoy.
Nobody was hurt and we got it back the right way up today, me and my boy checked out the damage over the weekend to see what Dad would be doing come Monday.

Hiya, sorry for late reply, I had a beverage-keyboard accident and only had time to source a spare recently.

I was thinking of either having an up-armoured Humvee flipped on its roof with the engine compartment torn open and the front wheels gone, with perhaps M-ATV thrown in as a first responder, maybe a nice tie in with the transition?

Or I was also looking into having a bogged down Humvee trapped in the sand, that way I don't have to partially destroy a good M1511 kit, lol

Any advice is welcome!

Thanks

Martin I think we have all had a beverage related key-board incident (mine was tea) ! ... your idea's/concepts are fine and you'll get plenty of advice on here, all I'd say to begin with is 'Less is more' = when damaging your chosen model, if you go all out to begin with it can look unrealistic, plus it will be hard to undo your work... so only damage/alter/modify a small area ... step back have a look then carry on.
Not long now to the start too I can't wait to start myself.

Ok I have changed my mind again about what I will build here I picked up this old Tamiya kit on the cheap
Photobucket
No marking, Chinese instructions,no crew or storage and some of the pieces are cut off the spruces and have some red putty on them, so I figured this will be a perfect kit to destroy
It will be the 2nd vehicle in my Urban Warfare Campaign dio and I should get a cracken on it by Monday

Hi Sal, great little kit you got there, I built the reconnaissance version when I was about 14, I remember being shocked that the tracks weren't rubber band type.
Looking forward to what you do to knock it out, what have you got planned?:-?
I just got my kit today (quicker postage then I thought) but didn't get a paper so I post up tomorrow, I've got an early Hummel which will have running gear and fire damage, well that's the plan.

It should look pretty good dude ,,I can't wait to see it .
One thing ( don't give me crap about being slow ) sitting here tonight i remembered that i have a heap of rather sickly looking tanks and some pics not many people might have seen ,, so heres a pile of them for you guys to rack your brains over ..
these pics would be a serious amount of work but look amazing ,OH and yes thats a real Maus

from super massive to ,,well the other end

what happens when you drop the clutch in a sherman ,,well not really but ouch!!

Now just some plain old unhappy tanks
