It's October 8th, I have no school, and I suppose I'll get a (very) late start on my Stug IV. Right after my camera charges

BTW, anyone have any experience with this?

-Conor

I have this set and plan on using at least some of it with my StuG III G. The stowage is very nicely molded and plentiful. The downsides are some thick casting block connections and many of the items are cast together as one piece, limiting how they can be displayed.

Phillipe ,,Damn thats turned nice and like the other guys ,,do the bridge man ...ground work would make that really rock and damn you did nice with the crew ,,excellent mate ,,really excellent

Gary ... Two words man ... freaking amazing bro ..ok thats three ,,never said i could count your STuG blows my mind man and your figures look amazing too ,,in my opinion its the best looking STuG in this campaign man .
You couldn't be more right about that bike ,,damn i have never touched up something so damn much as this thing ,,those tires are a nightmare,,do it again ? i hear you ask...not for sometime bud

Marc ,, Yours is starting to look very cool too man ..can't wait to see the washes hitting this thing

Paul .. The tire was an idea i had cause of a pic i saw ages ago of a STuG IV which had one tied to the rear end ,,looks to me like is was a spare they were delivering for someone or they used it paddling around with ..i dont know really but thought " why not" ..looks different and i like that

I have been admiring the builds from afar, great work guys

After contemplating quitting models altogether (am I the only one that goes through these phases?), tonight I tried some whitewash using the hairspray technique

Im following the AK winter DVD, but it does lack much in-depth narrative of the techniques. I guessed and used an acrylic flat base over the base coat, then did the hairspray, then water and flat brush. I used a toothpick for the scratches

@Phill, Ground work is in the project list! but i'm taking a break from the bridge. The image is slowly taking form in my head, when it will all be clear i'll go ahead and do this.

@Greg. It worked man, are you gonna clear coat and pinwash over it? I think it would give some depth to the finnish, but it already looks great, should you decide to leave it that way. I really got to try that soon.

Phil.

VERY nice work there Greg!

Following the advice from the DVD has paid off and I feel you have nailed it.

Hello Greg,

Im very happy you stuck with the StuG build. Like Jeff said...YOU NAILED IT!!! I agree with Phil. An overall wash or light pin wash would really help bring the details out. Very impressive job man. Keep'er comin' Greg!

Thanks guys! This was only the first step. Next you go back and do some sponge chips to further define panels/areas. Then some filters, washes, and all that weathering stuff

@Gary ... very nice work. Do you paint these in the same way as the tarps?
@Greg ... very nice whitewash, great wear on it (and no you aren't the only on who contemplates stopping)...

Hello Robert,

Man the Figures are a little more involved than the tarps. I wish it were that easy. Its alot more mixing base coats and hightlights and shadow coats and trying to tint those colors for a decent transition from light to dark. The faces are even tougher!!!

This was really good fun, especially because before I joined Amorama in March,
I was seriously thinking of quitting the game .
Glad I didn´t.

Cheers then
Paul

Hi Greg,
no, you are not alone with these thoughts, many of us have them I think. But what the hell, if it´s too much take a rest and build a wingy thing. They say a change is as good as a rest . Your Stug looks cool maybe as the others say just a little wash and such and she´ll be perfect. Stick in there mate, it´s all good fun this modelling thing and we do it because we can .

@Phill: maybe we and all others who can´t do figs, can visit Gary, and he can teach us how to paint good figures. Instead of looking like "rolling snail S%$t and "sick creatures from hell"
What d´ya recon, sometime in the spring 2013 maybe?

Awesome work on the figures. Would it be possible to do a step-by-step for those who find figures daunting please?

hello Fellas,

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen!

Rolling snail *****....Thats a new one. I LIKE IT!!!

Thanks young Padawan!

Greg - I dont use washes on the face. Its all Vellejo Acylics. I do use Pin wash on seams and the like on the uniform.

Darren - I appreciate your confidence in me, but i am learning myself. These represent the best figures ive done in 1/35th scale to date. Im not sure i could have pulled it off without watching the MXpressions DVD on this subject. It paid close attention and did as he did as close as i could and this is what i got. The DVD is long and at times i got a bit drowsy, but the face painting tutorial made all the difference.

Thanks fellas,
Gary

Nice ground work going on, Gary.

As for my StuG, i applied the first gloss coat yesterday and decals today. I also started 2 of the 4 figures that come with the kit.
I will apply the second gloss coat maybe tomorrow, if i have time.

Now, you know why I wanted you in the Campaign.

The groundwork is equally as good as the figures Gary. Something I'd like to do if I just had more time.
