I haven't seen an ad for the new show on BBCA yet. Considering it's more of a 'bastard' channel it'll probably be a couple months.

very quiet here for the last nearly 2 weeks - time to post something new...

A few days ago I put everything I had (figures, car, alien) together on the diorama to check the layout and that's how it looks:

The size fits, I need some more figures and small stuff to get this scene to life.
Right now I am working on the inside of the buildings.

But there's one thing I need some tips, hints or advice:
How can I get the feeling of movement into the car?
How it looks right now it is too static and looks to much like a toy...

Any help is much appreciated!

Cheers
Thomas

Thomas, I've been busy trying to get a couple of other campaigns caught up or finished. Your project is looking good. As far as the movement thing, maybe add several small details to infer movement. I'm thinking the easiest is to tweak the Bronco to make it look like it's driving. Maybe have the front or rear off the ground a bit like it's running over some rubble on the road. The driver looks like he's bracing himself so that could work for you. You'll need to add some rubble or barricades to the street. Maybe add a muddle puddle to show some splash where the Bronco is driving through it. Maybe even have the Bronco hitting or running through something. Another idea would be to add a figure to the passenger seat, hanging out the window, firing back at the robot. That could be a lot of work though.

My HEMTT is starting to come together:

Further detailing added in the cab. Nearly ready to put the roof on

It's taken a lot of brush painting to get this far. Something this size really needs an airbrush

looking good mate!
with the car, maybe lower the rear suspension, make it look like the driver is gunning it, turn the front wheels a little.

don't forget some rubbish and stuff on the road too!

Thomas: Looking good. For movement, you could have a newspaper or other rubbish on the street swirling in the air behind the truck. Turning the wheels would also help, and the seat belt could be loose out the door and trailing.

Sean: I like the bits and pieces in the HEMTT. Looking good.

Sean, your HEMTT is looking nice. I can't wait to see where you go with it.

Well I made a decision about this campaign. I've been going back and forth about it for a while and it's really been holding up progress on it. I'm probably going to dump the JGSDF NBC vehicle. The more I try diorama layout mock-ups with it, the less I like it. It just seems like the backstory requires too much effort to justify it's inclusion. I probably should have made this decision months ago before I built and finished the NBC Vehicle.

I've got a partially done Maxi Ambulance that was slated to be a comm vehicle for something else. I might add that instead. Repaint it. Find a driver for it. And just have a pair of Humvee vehicles rolling down the street.

Sean that's just killing it dude! Great job. Really look forward to it's completion.

I had the idea to add a Bull bar to the front; or if you're in the Great North, a Moose bar; or if you're in the 'Outback' down under, a 'Roo' bar.

Naturally it's got to be scratchbuilt with nothing in this scale being suitable. So here goes...

Used thick walled tube and a small candle, bent the top corner sections.

More to follow, thanks for any comments etc.

I thought I had a closer to completion image to share, and I found it.
Using some heat, these thin strips were formed to shape and will be used on the verticals.

Took some time but I find that fiddling around with small bits of plastic eases the mind...

Yes that plastic at the bottom is the beginning of a Cow Catcher.
I mean, we're talking 'bout taking on hordes of Zombies, right?
Cheers Dave

After this Campaign lay dormant maybe now it starts to 're-animate'
Cut out the de-chromed kit grill, and started on the new insert, which will utilise slats.
Used some old grooved plastic cut at 90' to make a jig of sorts.

Hope to have more soon. Dave

Dave, that's one nasty looking grill guard. Lots of nice little detail work there.

Well I got the top off the CDC Humvee without damaging it. So the driver and other guy are getting their respirators. Right now, I'm just going to use the one Humvee.

Quick update. I managed to get the roof off the Humvee and added respirators to both the driver and passenger. I scratched up the tanks using a tank from a Tamiya flamethrower and a fire extinguisher. The mask parts came from the old Tamiya Infantry Equipoment set. I added a few details. I had the give the passenger a hood. I also swapped out the siren/loudspeaker on the vehicle roof for an emergency light.

Wow, what an impressive progress during this last week!

Sean, your HEMMT is really looking good - much space in the rear to fill with anything you need.
Only one thing: it looks like the map-printout on the computer screen is crumpled.
Everything else looks nice - do you add figures to this monster?

Dave, your Bullbar is impressive - I have built something similar for my Zombie hunter car in 1:24.
This is really fun - and it really looks great on a truck!

Alex, I like your Humvee including the modifications - especially the Co-Driver who is looking out of the window. Only one little detail: your white HAZMAT suits have no shadows - they are white without visible shadow painted in the pleats.

During the last three weeks I have concentrated on the "small" things - all this stuff which brings a diorama to life.
At least I hope so for my diorama...

Here the workbench for the workshop (where an M2 is repaired)

And some other stuff:

Now I have to go back to the larger elements - finish the walls, the roofs and things like that...

Cheers
Thomas

Thomas, Thanks. I agree about the white. Once I get the rest of the Hazmat figures together I'll paint them all with a coat of light gray and then the white to give them some depth.

Alex, if you are doing it this way:

it is unnecessary difficult.

From my experience in figure painting it is much easier to darken a paint then to lighten it up. Especially white!

Some lovely stuff showing up here Guys!

As for mine, well it's starting to come together. Still a lot of detail to be added and then weathering....

But I'm getting there....
