Delbert I like it, it's on my bookmark list.
I like the color photo's, I'm in search of one can not for the life of me remember were I saw it shows a line of jeeps from the back out side of a hut china or India . But it's a good example of three or four shades of O.D. on the jeeps and on the canvas tops.
The dot thing with the jeep is real nice I've been looking for a good view of the T latches .

More work done on the Ford GPW USAAF correspondence jeep.
Being an earlier model, I had to remove the mounting point for the BO light:
The PE rear plate (with the Ford script) stood proud off the back a little, so I blended it into the body with some putty, then added the various details.
to mount the front wheels, I used some lego blocks to keep the wheels square to the ground and parallel to each other.
a few overall shots of current progress. I used the spare wheel from one of the Dragon jeeps as it has the mount using 3 bolts vs. the mounting plate like what is in the Tamyia kit. All that is left is to add the footman loops to the rear, mounting hardware for the ax and shovel (which will not be installed), and the steering wheel. I also need to add some folded/rolled tarps and bags in the rear.
Im looking forward to paint! Maybe by next weekend!

Well, slow but sure progress.
Kinda neat with the armor up, instead of a windscreen!
And I really could have used Pats keen eyes as the latches for the windscreen and hood almost beat me!
Now to take a break and see what else I can mess up.

I like that lego prop idea too. Pat beat me to the comment!
Nicely done.
Anyway, here's my inspiration...
I did a little research on colors, and for 1946-7, there were 18 factory colors! This one is in Lochinvar Green and looks especially glossy in a misty rain that day. I picture mine in Tunisian Red with Bedford Gray wheels. I won't try to model the snot-nosed kids in the foreground.
My starting kit is this...
I mean this to be a quick conversion (rivet-counters can calm down, please), even though there's a resin conversion set out there, but right away I realize the front face will take some reworking-- 7 slots and chrome headlight rings, clear off the fenders, fuel filler at the driver seat, etc.
And here's a close-up of the date on the paper...
A little more to do on the Saddle Breaking campaign, but then I start hacking plastic on this one in earnest!!!
Cheers!

Hi again!, from my old post of page 12 now I start my jeep
Tamiya one with some Eduard borrow from SAS detail set.
I try some details....
But later I found this picture, searching for "Armoured jeeps" - for discussion only and caught my eyes
This one, have aside spare tyre, windshield and armour, and its a one Star mount. Any references?
Maybe have 2 spare wheels? How the armour was secured?
Or another pics of this subject?.
TIA
Regards, Alvaro

Hi Sean,
Ill be watching how you go about your conversion. Ive been wanting to add several CJ-2A's to the collection (including some IDF vehicles). Ill be watching to see how you do this without the Plus Models conversion!
Are you going to bother with the WILLYS script on the hood? I wonder if some parts mashed together between a MB grill and MUTT would do the trick for your front end.
Interesting though that the one in the photo has a jerry can and spare wheel mounted in the rear in front of the tailgate. Are they mounted to a swing arm?
Cheers!

Thanks, Andy. I hope I'm not in over my head! I don't have other pictures of that particular Jeep, but for mine I intend to work up a detailed tailgate and side-mount the spare. I have no plans to attempt the Willys logo, unless something presents itself.
Jeff, Yeah! 56 in the gallery would be AWESOME!!

re-edit: It's a shame I have more time on the computer at work than I do at the workbench at home, but looking at my own parts photo, I see that Italeri has conveniently made the grill a separate part. That's fortunate for starters!

indeed... I sometimes find the italeri kit easier for conversions because of the multi-part body!
Too bad we don't have somebody that would be willing to whip out some 3D drawings of the needed conversion parts for the CJ-2A (tailgate, hood and windscreen w/ "WILLYS" script, front grill, side panel with fuel filler port), then we could just get them 3D printed.
I seriously need to get some good 3D CAD software and get myself back up to speed on my skills. Been a while since ive done any CAD work! It would be SO useful now with folks like Click-2-Detail and such.

Accurate Armour has the tailgate in their M38 conversion set. I used it on my CJ3B conversion. It doesn't have the Willys script, but does have the plate for it. You could add the script using PE letters or some shaved off of sprues.

Uh oh I better get busy, for some reason I thought I had 2 more months for this campaign..
I'm doing Tamiya's old SAS Jeep, I have chosen the older one because I want to practice with the hairspray technique.
I should be able to finish if I don't let myself get bogged down in replacing a lot of details.. though I see where I can make a few improvements..
here is the start and the beginning of my build.

Tiny progress:
Wow... does sanding the surface for primer REALLY show up or what?!!
A few more detail items, attach the gun mount to the front area and painting should be next!
Oh and that radio, all in PE.

Hello everyone.
Been working on my SAS jeep the old Tamiya one. I plan on replacing the Jerry cans with a mixture of better ones. and I want to show them tied down on the hood using something other than the invisible hard points that the kit parts had.
Tried my hand at making some tie downs out of some brass stock I had laying around, and I thought I'd see what people thought about it, in one respect it seems out of scale, in another respect when compared with the grab handle behind the seats it seems about the same size. here is one shown on the hood next to a jerry can, I was planning to run a strap through it and over the cans.
btw I do not want to use PE with this one.. just the basic kit some better detailed parts and some scratched stuff.
thanks for looking

might have missed it, but think I still didn't receive an answer if my amphibious Jeep (Ford GPA) would qualify.

YES! IT DOES!
My fading memory tells me I once already answered that but please do, thrash one together as this ends May 1st!
Next time please send a PM to the Campaign Leader (me) as it might be a faster way to get an answer.

Hi Delbert
I look some SAS Jeeps and the Jerrycans appears to be "straped" by metal supports than tie downs. The one that you show, appears a bit overscale, maybe using another wire, whith the end of the tie down flats.
here and example
http://www.google.com.uy/imgres?q=SAS+jeep&start=110&um=1&hl=es&newwindow=1&safe=off&sa=N&biw=1440&bih=775&tbm=isch&tbnid=V4qBQ7PvTs8q6M:&imgrefurl=http://ww2today.com/26th-july-1942-sas-raid-hits-the-desert-airfield-at-fuka&docid=K0wEYfJq6dI1lM&imgurl=http://ww2today.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/SAS-in-jeeps-1943.jpg&w=800&h=797&ei=t9NeUePqCdSl4AOD0YHACA&zoom=1&ved=1t:3588,r:12,s:100,i:40&iact=rc&dur=607&page=6&tbnh=181&tbnw=171&ndsp=23&tx=121&ty=79
I use the Eduard set for my jeep also, and some PE parts are easily to replicate with scrap metal.
