Kevin-You could replace the MLRS tracks with AFV clubs snap together 'Big foot' tracks, they are a lot easier to construct and look miles better anyway.
Jacob-That little scene is coming along nicely! It will look really nice with loads of junk and rubbish laying about. Theres a bic in one of Concords special ops books, of a building like this packed full of adrenaline drugs, and various other medical drugs and such like.
I will post some pics later today of an AAV7 im working on for this campaign. Its not 100% accurate, I just decided to build it for a bit of fun-it looks the part and sometimes thats all that matters. I will be working on another AAV7 at some point with full interior, complete RAM/RS updates and a shed load of other details.

I'm working on my M113A3 as I type (or rather, just before I started typing!). Right now I'm doing a bit of detail painting and prep work to overspray with a gloss coat in order to put down decals and perform a wash. I still haven't finished assembling the indy tracks from AFV--they are a bear to clean up. I still need to decal, finalize assembly, and weather the bucket, and assemble, paint, and weather the tracks. One month left to do all that!

Hi,
I'm new to the site and to armor building.
My contribution to the campaign is a diorama:
-Tamiya M1A2
-Tamiya M2A2
-Tamiya M1046
-Tamiya M113A2
-Eduard sets for all vehicles, + aftermarket tracks for the abrams
-10 verlinden figures
-4 trumpeter figures
-8 dragon figures
-5 civilians
-4 insergents
-4 verlinden buildings
The diorama centers arround a mosque, with buildings on the sides and a park wall, The US troops just killed 2 insergents and arrested another 2.
Other men are checking the buildings for other threats, 4 arabs are watching and angry.
As I said, this is my first armor build, and there's a lot of $$$ riding on this, so I hope it turns out ok.
I'll post some pics of my progress in the gallery.

I may just do that, I keep forgetting about the AFV sets. I actually managed to open the box for more than a look today, and got a fair bit done on the wheels and suspension, and have started work on the cab.

Well welcome to the site, but man you really go all in! I will be very interested in seeing how this turns out as I don't think I've seen anything quite so comprehensive done in a modern setting. Your concept seems sound. Let us know if you need any help or suggestions.

The AFV Club track are more correct for an OIF M270 anyways. The kit tracks are the older triangle block ones. In the mid '90s, the MLRS got the new square-block "bigfoot" tracks along with the Bradleys. Take a look at modern MLRS for a few other upgrades as well. To begin with, there is a hand hold that goes around the front and sides of the TC's hatch up top. Also, there is a box on the driver's side behind the door for a Halon fire extinguisher that is not in the kit.
Let me know if you need any more info on it. I was in 1-39 FA (MLRS), 3ID for the invasion phase of OIF 1.
Good luck on it.

Does DML's MLRS have the correct drive sprocket?? Becuase AFV failed include this in their track set, which is probably the most important thing most of us need if building a new AAV, M2A2, MLRS etc

If by correct you mean with lightening slots and a deep front, yes. Contrary to what Terry says at PMMS, I find that they fit the Tamiya, Academy, and Dragon sprockets just fine.

Sprockets are no good in the Tamiya kits though, old type. AFV should of included the correct sprocket becuase it almost makes them tracks worthless, unless its possible to source a correct one somehow, they do work ok with blasts suspension set if you dont want to use the resin link and lengh tracks.

They are not an old type, but were simplified by Tamiya for motorization on their original kit. They are too shallow and don't have the spokes or holes in the face. The new Academy ones have the spokes, but are still too shallow. They do look better though. Dragon's are the only ones in plastic that are accurate and look about the same as the Blast resin ones.

My mistake! The plastic is too thick to even cut out any holes.

What color are you doing it? If sand, dark brown is good for a wash, then brubrush with sandy colors. For a camo vehicle, a black wash is good, then drybrush with the original colors on each area, and finally drybrush overall with sandy colors.
Good luck.
Good luck.

As far as I am up to.
A slow build.
You did say end of Sept. Correct
Added weld seams and drilled holes for shackles filing in all of Tamiya's Motor holes.
I have replaced the Drive sprocket with one from Trumpeter Kit which I have.
Now when I do it down the Road need to get sprockets for it
Still need to other odd bits to upper Hull.
They still use that Bilge pump deal on Hull?

Leverancier -- your dio is looking great. The figures and Mosque look awesome. A couple issues on your M113 though. When the external fuel tanks are fitted, it is an M113A3 and the internal tank is not fitted. The internal and external fuel cells are not fitted at the same time on one vehicle. For an M113A3, there are sliding Kevlar spall panels down both sides of the fighting compartment, and it also has a stearing yoke (a "U"-shaped wheel) as opposed to laterals, among a few other upgrades. It also has an M113A1-style exhaust as well. For an A2 or A3, it should have the flat-topped flapper exhaust with the square guard around it.
Also, you have built an M1A2 and marked it as a 3-69 AR, 3ID tank. 3ID didn't have any M1A2s. All 3ID and 3-69 AR tanks were M1A1s.

Hey leverancier, you are coming along well. One critique: your figures have the wrong weapons. They all have 20 round magazines, where all M-16 series rifles use 30-round magazines in combat. If you want, I have some correct weapons that I could send you. PM and let me know.

Yep, but modellers are running out of plastic options if they want to stay current. With the Army moving to all M-4s, seeing straight M-16A2 is going to get harder. By no means will they fade out, and modellers can still find plenty of examples to use them, but its getting harder. There are plastic M-4s and modified -16A4s out there, but it may be wise for Dragon to release a new accessory kit of just M-16A2/A4 and M-4s modified for current use. 75% of the AR versions in Dragon's kit are not really used by anyone save for rebels who commercially purchased them or got them off the black market.

@Leverancier: very impressive diorama you have there. It will look absolutely awesome when finished. It really has that OIF feel over it.
Looking forward to see more
