yes as you have spotted the fronts are too shallow too, these have already been done, although not as seperate parts. You can find them in the Airedale castings resin Type 69 i mastered last year. Although now oop. It seems Verlinden dropped this part when they released there version. This is based on the Master i made. I have other things in the pipeline, maybe i should think of adding these to the list?.

ah, if you had a type 69 conversion[ sorry to keep bringing this up] it did originally [in the airedale casting] have that type of dust cover with the bolted front fixing for the dust cover. In fact i may have a spare one here...if you want it yours...you will have to alter the top plate yourself though....easy fix. i know it would be expensive to do, but the tow hooks in Tamiyas JS-2 kit are more accurate than the T-55 kit supplied ones.

Personally i dont think there is anything wrong with the kit supplied barrel, aside from it lacking the rifling., it has correct weld beads etc. After a little work on the seam , it also requires the small bolt adding to the rear underside of the fume extractor.

Looking at my reference pics i've noticed that not all the t-55 had the weld seam on the fume extractor
In my opinion the main issue with tamiya gun is that is two piece mold, so it quite difficult to putty
Otherwise it's quite hard to fix the PE details on the Aber barrel. Especially that which has to be mounted round the gun mouth.
Mig gun matlet is conceived for tamiya model and also aber barrel is designed for the japanese kit. Aber barrel fits incredibly well in Tamiya gun mantlet...even TOO WELL in my opinion. That's the reason why aber gun barrel fit very well with Mig gun mantet ...

It's rapidly turning into a horror novel for me
Every time I change one thing, I then have to change 10 other things, but it's kinda fun in a strange kinda way.
It's sort of like old school modelling, remember back in the old days when military modelling mags had articles on build ups that went on for page after page, lots of scratch building and conversions,
These days it's all "slap it together" with about 3 pictures, then huge amounts of painting detail, and some rather obvious pruduct placement in all the painting piccy's,
Shame really, but kits are so much better these days, there is not as much to do with them as there used to be.
Well, firstable I love the old school. I think was a more creative way to do kit modelling, altough I know extra part sets are often irreplaceable.
Regarding the kits. Yes, it's true, nowadays they are a lot better than they used to be. On the other hand thanks to internet, now we can accede to a lot of references, a lot more than in the past, so when we build a kit we can't avoid to improve it because we KNOW EXACTLY how is the real tank...
Maybe we were happier when we were more ignorant

Just been reading through the "Colour Modulation and Weathering" thread, and OMG, it got so bad that they had to lock it, (a good choice)
Military Modelling is in dire straits if a thread about weathering turns into nothing more than a male ego driven stone fight,
I am stunned, and shocked tbh, simply unbelievable.
I'm with you there. I just wish it could have been a constructive discussion.
Are you thinking of doing CM on this build?

I am tempted to paint it pink, sun faded pink of course
Then chip it to hell, and put it in "what if", as in what if the Polish Army decided to paint their tanks pink, lol
... it wouldn't be so original...

25-30 ish, (never ask a women her age)
So, a workshop fresh paint job, and I just noticed the main gun is blowing bubbles
...but it doesn't seem a flaw
Cheers
