Thanks Gary. I've been reading everything I can (afford-ably) get my hands on regarding the North African campaign and just wanted to take a less-common approach, yet have it realistic and factual.
Here I started the initial weathering. In the process, I broke off the antenna rod support at the swivel, so I'm going to have to manufacture something to work. Keep in mind that addition equipment is going to be mounted on...jerry cans, baggage, track links, helmets, etc.

Nice job till now my friend. I think it will be a very good looking structure at the end.
By the way I 'm afraid that you have placed the side crew hatches in the wrong way. Here is a photo in order to see what I mean...

Here I have put on front mounted track, netting, rolls and baggage. I'm getting ready to scratch build the tow cables...two rear-deck mounted and one to keep the front mounted track in place...also note the main gun recoil tarp...

Truly a thing of beauty Neal! Is this one just going on a shelf or as a contest entry or vignette?

Thanks guys...I really do feel like I'm re-learning the hobby. This kit started out as a test and re-education at the (kit) sale cost of $14.00, if I recall correctly.
I want to do a large diorama with some of the other DAK vehicles I completed after getting back in the water (thanks to Mason, my 11 year old)....I'm negotiating with the Missus as to the location...

Thanks!
I made the bundles myself. The rolled tarp/bedrolls are tissues cut to size, wet with water, tied with the wax thread that I used and painted. The bags are made from Squadron putty, formed into shape and then etched with a knife once they dried to reflect folds, flaps and wrinkles. The green camo tarp is medical gauze cut to size, wet down with water, tied with the wax thread and painted.

nice update - and thanks for the pointers on the rolls/tarps etc. I had made 1 roll from tissue & white glue, but think it is too "sausage-like". Easily revisited tho....

For me, I skipped the white glue part and liberally used the acrylic paint. The wax thread was long enough to use it to hold the rolls/tarps while painting and clipping it to my helping hands for drying...this prevented the sausage effect.

WOW, sensational build mate. The weathering looks spot on and the external equipment makes the tank look extremely realistic. Good job.
