I went ahead and started on the second Jurasssic kit...Tamiya's old Panzer II ausf. F.

The kit is literally as old as I am. It's pretty straight-forward. I've built this kit several times. It really is a weekend build. I had pulled it out the other night with the intention of cleaning up some of the parts and some other prep work. The next thing I know, it's assembled and ready for paint.

Rear of the hull. Note the motorization holes have been covered over using filler putty.

And now the front. Basically the front tow brackets. The tape on the hull is to back the motorization holes for the filler.

The wheels, idlers, and drive sprockets. The kit is showing some age but one thing I noticed was the holes for the wheels were slightly off-center.

Turret. I left the 2cm and MG barrels off to avoid breakage. This will be an ausf. F on the Eastern Front so no turret box. I left the cupola assembly seperate for ease of painting.

Upper hull front. Not alot here. I left the pioneer tools off for painting. Tamiya chose to mold the ax on.

Upper hull rear. Not alot here either.

And that's it...she's ready for paint. I'll probably shoot the base coat this weekend. Then, start work on the winter camo. The kit's decals are in pretty bad shape. I hadn't planned on using them. I have some in the spares that are old and should work.

Alex, looking good. I built one of those a long time ago, I can't even remember how long ago, but I do remember how easy and clean everything fit. It is a really fun little kit.

Paul[/quote]

Paul, I want to say thanks for urging me forward with the link to link tracks. I actually ended up loving these tracks!!! Just really like the way they look on the tank and based on that they are more than worth the effort. As for the demon, I've been dispossessed, exorcized, and purged of any fear I previously had of those tracks. I've previously been successful with Panda Plastic link to link, which are definitely easier to use and fit than these. This is a big deal to me because it is the first time I've successfully completed a set of these!

Hi Pedro,
that what you have done is exactly what I wanted to be shown
in this campaign . We all have these kits in our possesions and many of us don´t touch them any more because something presumably better has turned up .
But this mostly isn´t true, ok they´re old and you have to cut more and clean more plastic than now, but that´s how it was and I like it, and at a guess so does averyone else that´s building a kit here too.
Keep it up lads, all builds are looking great

Hi Alex,
are you trying to put Sal "out of buisness"?
Wow keep it up mate, the more explanations and shown old kits the better this will be, specially for the beginners
out there , which is where I would like the campaign
to hit.

All done! I really enjoyed this. Quick, easy build and it is more detailed than I thought. I'm going to look at finnishing 2 incomplete Tamiya KVs in my stash!

Su-122. Eventually to be in a dio with riders and a German Pupchen.

Any comments/suggestions on improvement are very welcome!

Paul, Nah Sal builds at a completely different speed than I do.

I do build a lot, but it's more about time management and keeping it simple than any great amount of speed on my part. I'm also bad about jumping around. I tend to do most of my building during the week, after dinner.

The Panzer II kit is really simple. It's a true OOB build, at least as far as the assembly. I was able to do the assembly (what you see in the pictures) in one sitting. The painting is where I'll be slowed down a bit.

Howdy Y'all:
Do to time constraints I had to drop out of this build. I'm sorry to do so, it is a great idea and I hope there is a Jurassic II in the future.
Y'all take care,

Howdy Y'all,
Here's the kit I will be trying to build, sans "servants". I say, "try" because I might throw it against the wall before I'm done.
Other than that, Y'all have a nice day,
Don "Lakota"

Hi Don,
that´s a shame to hear that, would an extension help?
Or do you have some new plastic wall decoration?
Let me how long you´d need and we´ll see what can be arranged.

Steve, nicely done that also shows what´s in these prehistoric kits

Thanks Paul!

I've been trying to put a picture in the Gallery with no success.

I always have trouble doing this. I can't submit it to the Campaign gallery directly. When I try to submit to my personal gallery, the files are too big. And when I try to delete some old photos from my gallery, it does not work.

Pretty much, I'm a mess and would much rather spend time building models and browsing the forums than dealing with the Kitmaker gallery. Anyone else have these problems?

Steve-O'
I have had these problems also I couldn't upload my pictures.
I use photobucket now. I had to reduce the size of the photo I wanted to use in the compaign galley. I hope this helps.

I use a free program called PhotoRazor to resize all my photos for posting, it's fast keeps the quality and makes the file a nice small size.

Hi Steve,
please remember that your foto must be 3mb or smaller.
I myself use this:
http://www.resizeyourimage.com/
it doesn´t alter the original and it´s free and simple to use.

@ Rob. coming on nicely, now you have reminded me that I must continue with my painting and weathering

Quick update.

The bergepanzer IV painted and dried. Roadwheels and track are on. Next step will be to begin adding the other bits and adding the wear and tear. I'm probably going to keep this one simple.

The Panzer II was painted this morning. I'll let it sit for a few days to thoroughly dry before adding a winter paint coat.

That's it for now.

Howdy Paul:
Thanks for the offer to extend the building period. The truth is, I'm overwhelmed with my group builds and club builds. I try to pick my group builds to fit into the club contests. I just don't have anything that conveinently fits into both categories for "Jurassic Plastic."
Take care,

I have a number of old aircraft kits that would fall into this category, but I am looking to take a break from detailing for realism and do this wacky old thing from Hawk that I've got sitting in my stash...

Anyone want to make a ruling if it is actually eligible for this campaign? I realize it's completely outside the scope of what is normally built around here, but it is not explicitly ineligible from my reading of the rules... I'm gonna do it anyway since it will be fast and will help improve my novice-intermediate level airbrushing skills without having to worry about accuracy but I wouldn't mind sharing my progress here.

Hi Van,
welcome to the old school campaign, and welcome to Armorama.
Well you have a point about there being no mention of Sci-Fi, Fiction or even What ifs in the ruling, so go ahead and build it. (Mental note: check my own damn rules in the future )
Anyway I have a record from "the Birthday Party" with similar cover picture:
http://www.google.com/search?q=birthday+party+junkyard&hl=de&rlz=1R2AURU_deDE498&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=cU9DUfSqGYLcswantICoCw&sqi=2&ved=0CFIQsAQ&biw=1265&bih=561

So get on with it dude, and if you make look like that cover you will recieve 100 celestial virgins
Happy weekend folks it´s, bench time.

So, time for me to share my entry - originally I was planning the old Italeri 1/72 F-16, but I decided to upscale to 1/48 with the old Hasegawa F-16A. This is the updated Thunderbirds boxing dating from 1987 - note the water damage and mould on box top!

Box contents

This is what I'm planning on doing, an early A model from the 388th TFW at Hill AFB, the first USAF unit with the F-16. The picture is from the old Salamander Aviation Fact File from the 1980s, for those who remember them! The sidewinders and Mk.84s will come from the Hasegawa Weapons set (they count as stowage, right )

Keeping up the retro theme I will be using Superscale decals

Hasegawa was state of the art in the 1980s, so the cockpit isn't bad, even by 21st century standards.
