I'm going to build the Tamiya M3 Stuart with Commander's M3A1 Conversion.

Hi there,
well the build is finished for now man I´d forgotten
how fast these oldies can be cobbled together . Next
stop the paint shop :
Making tracks, I must admit that welding these monsters
together scared the hell out of me Sure glad we don´t have to do that anymore:
Before the sagging
and with the sag, good old brass rod in the hull:
side skirts added:
So then tomorrow a bit of sanding and cleaning and then the base coat

Hey, that was a quick build Paul! -- looking forward to your choice of paint scheme.
After the suspension, I thought the rest would be quicker. I apparently took more time on the schurzen, as my I broke nearly all of the hangers!
Anyways I made own -- though they're neither on scale nor near accurate. And definitely not something any AM vendor will think of putting in their catalog!
A bit more clean up, and it'll go to the paint shop for priming.
Cheers,
Tat

Too lazy to go out and replenish my supply of gray primer, so I just put on a black coat from a rattlecan:
I was reviewing the Esci paint instructions, and found it odd that it called for sand / dark yellow camo stripes over a base of dark grey. Anyways, have googled some potential paint schemes to choose from.
More to come...

This is a cool campaign, just enlisted. I love what you guys are doing with all these old kits right ootb. Besides, looks like you guys could use a sherman. The oldest I have are the tamiya 75mm and 105mm m4a3s, the original DML hybrid firefly, and the dml m4a4. I'll post box pics as soon as I decide which one to do.

Welcome Pedro, don´t forget to check the rules dude
The Rules and Regs
1, Kit must have been produced before the year 2000.
2. After Market items are only to be used if you already
have these in your stash. Please do not run out and buy new stuff, or something being offered on E-Bay that is older than 2000. I appeal to you and your honesty on this rule.
3. Conversions are only allowed if these are themselves older than the year 2000. There must also have been no plastic kit on the market up to the said year.
4. Any scale
5. Kit must be unstarted, if not post a picture of the
progress and we´ll see from there.
6. At least 5 in-build pics into the thread and 1 into the campaign gallery
7. Have fun
and don´t try to squeeze some self made bits in here unless something gets broken during assembly due to brittle plastic
Oh yes, remember this one only runs to the end of April.
Short, sharp and fun

Hi Paul thinking about going with the Tamiya m4a3 105mm for ease of build considering the deadline, I take I'll have to leave the sponson floors open? That kit goes back to the late 80s early 90s, I'll double check on that.
Edit: ah crud! The 105mm doesn't qualify for this campaign. It was released in 2001, but it is based on their m4a3 from 1981. Still, it doesn't qualify so ill go with either of the 2 DML kits as soon as I verify their release dates.

Okay, found this cool site called scalemates. It has timelines for kit release dates and according to them both of my DML kits qualify. The m4a4 #6035 was released in 1995 and the firefly hybrid IC #9037 was released in 1996. So these things have been in my stash for a long long time, but I'm not sure I want to tangle with those tracks and I do have afv club and ds spares already here at home. Would that work? The tracks are probably the biggest reason why I never built these kits.

I am beginning to have a strong dislike for this campaign Firstly it it brings to the fore the problem of age, that is my advancing years. The kit I am building, Tamiya's Quad Gun Tractor, is not only older than all my grand-children, it is older than their parents! Secondly, trying to build a kit “straight out of the box” amounts to nothing less than premeditated torture
OK rant over, I took my pills, I feel better now
My build it Tamiya item No.35045, Quad Gun Tractor, first released in 1974.
Major assemblies made and ready to paint.
Bodywork primed.
Chassis with base coat of SCC No.2 (Brown). The wheels are painted BS61 Light Stone but I think I will change them to match base colour on the body, of BS64 Portland Stone.
The plan is to paint it up as one used by the New Zealand Army in North Africa.
Cheers for now
David

@Tat: nice and even there your base coat, I´m looking forward to your choice of camo scheme
@Pedro: I´m looking forward to seeing either or even both of those kits. Don´t be scared of the tracks, they look a nightmare but they are not that bad to build. Please don´t use the AFV or DS tracks, you will compromise your
award if you do.
@David: welcome to the campaign, and if I may say you are only as old as you feel . So I hope your pills hold out and you finish your lovely choice of kit, that was released when a certain person was 7 years old
Well here you are, base coat of Revell 9 and the first camo color of Tam. Nato green:
I´ll get some masking on tommorrow and then the red-brown.
It´s Saturday, it´s 19:30 and time to go to the and
have a good .
See ya soon,
Paul

Quick update.
Block and tackle, ditching beam, and the racks for the crane and tow bar assemblies done. I had to re-engineer the rack a bit and substitute out some of the brass for styrene. It's old styrene though.
All the components done and ready for paint...yes paint. I can actually see this one comign to a close. I hung the block and tackle assembly on the elevation cable to keep it safe. It's pretty fragile.
Yep...paint. Given that it already had a paint job, I ran multiple light coats so that it doesn't build up too much. The picture shows three coats and there's still some white popping through. I put on two more coats after that. I'll let it sit for the weekend to dry.
I really hate this "thing", but I'm glad I soldiered through it. What made it so bad was that the mistakes and aggrivations were not necessary. I'll probably take a break from it. And then knock it on out.

Ola Guys
Great builts.
@ Paul that Hetzer is shaping up nicely and by the looks of it we will be seeing a disk camo... looking forward to that.
@ Tat
That brummbar is ready for color man. Pretty neat built.
@ Martin
Sweet ride... looking forward to the paint.
@ David
Really nice work on the Quad Gun Tractor. Looking forward to the end result of that. Always like the look of that vehicle.
@ Alex
That Bergepanzer is becoming quite an impressive thing. looking forward to the further progress on that as well.
I have no updates of my Bonnie and Clyde Ford, sadly. And I'm already forseeing that it will not get finished in the deadline of this campaign. Problem is in the wheels. The ford had spoked wheels. And the GAZ had pressed rims. And I want the spoked wheels. Already found them. But I'm trying to find a place where I don't have to be a rich man to get them to me in the Netherlands. Shipping costs are outrageous. And I doubt I will have those wheels any time soon. And without it the Ford is simply not THE Bonnie and Clyde Ford. I will continue to work on it every now and then. Getting it as far as I can to the finish.

Robert,
I believe I have an article someplace that shows a fairly simple way to make your own spoked wheels it was for a plane so should work on the larger scale as well. I will try and dig it up.
Cheers Rob.

Paul, I'll give the M4A4 an honest shot completely ootb including the tracks. I'll post box and content pics as soon as the camera is done charging. I chose that one since it is the older of the two kits therefore the most JurASSic if the 2

So here is the box photo, I tried really hard to get the whole top part of the box including the copyright 1995. This is going to be both fun and interesting. Hopefully I can put this demon to rest as I've avoided tackling those tracks long enough.

Nice progress on the Quad, David. Looks great.
Paul, Looking forward to see the camouflage on that Hetzer. It will look great with your masking I believe.
Pedro, do not fear the tracks. (Easy for me to say ) They are easier than they look, but there is quite a large amount of clean up to do on all the small parts.

Thanks for he comments Paul B and Robert. I'm currently leaning towards the kit's box art and go for dark yellow and olive green combo (although I think most of the Stupas sported red brown instead of olive green). Anyways it may still change as I saw a squigly pattern that seems to tickle my fancy.
Paul B: I remember those round stickers. I initially planned to use them for my Hetzer build but I just couldn't find the right size. So I ended up cutting my own masks for both pattern and splinter. Long process for me but worth it in the end. Looking forward to your progress pics.
Robert: I understand your build is quite a task but I do hope you can still get around to finishing it.
Cheers,
Tat

Dark yellow tomorrow, hopefully

Jesper, thanks for the vote of confidence. The last time I tried a set of those was like 16 years ago. I'm a lot more patient than I was then so I'm going to approach it that way and see what happens.
