Hi all!
I've just started A Tamiya t-72 m1 and I need major help from the Armorama crew

I have miniarm tracks
I have a l/48 125mm turned barrel #35b102 from jb model
I also have the sweet pe kit from voyager #35353
That said I would like to depict the Czech m1k wich seems to be pretty close to the kit version.
here is som pics of the model in question:

http://www.brdm2.estranky.cz/fotoalbum/tanky/stredni-tank-t-72mk-_velitelsky-tank_/hki-365.jpg.html

Is this version is of the cold war era? And What would be the mods needed?
here is where I'm at.

6 pages on the pe kit instructions...

I've just started to work on the lower hull. Got the blade on and a couple of pieces of the suspension.

Thanks for watching and infos!

Phil.

You'll need to get a proper M1 turret: Blast, JS Models or other aftermarket. The K signifies a Command tank, so might have fittings for extra antenna on that one. Edit: just took a closer look, the antenna is stowed under the rear turret bin. There is an older article of building a Finnish T-72M1K in Mil Mod by Jukka Purhonen.

Thanks for the clarification Jim!
I wonder is this kit an actual version of a tank? By this I mean that I never seen it built without major mods like turret or wheel set change...
Could I use this turret to build a t-72 m1?
So what I am trying to say is that I want to keep the wheels and turret if possible (Holliday season and tight budget:( ). Is there anyway to salvage this kit with some scratch and be accurate?

Thanks for intel.

The version depicted by the Tamiya kit must be a quite rare eastern German one

I'll follow your job for sure!

HAHA Mauro! Always in the most intricate places of internet!
Thanks a lot Mate. This turret is a pain! But I like the last link and I'll imagine that: Once there was a reinforced turret on a E. German T-72 M1 hull .
So That said, Because it hollyday season and I want to model freeminded lets put this turret shape imbroglio behind us and go forward with the build.

Cheers

Hello Brother Phil,

Nice start my friend! Looks like you got some extra goodies for it as well - thats always good! So the Kit turret is completely wrong or just wrong for most variasions? Me being a a slim to none budget, i would have to use the kit turret as well. Im not a 100% accuracy guy cause i just cant afford it, but i will get this kit and build one for sure and ill use your thread for reference Phil...If you dont mind kind sir......

I would say on this occasion, just ignore the turret and have fun with the kit and those AM goodies you have so far.

That said, its my opinion that even out of the box without the kit turret is still not correct for any version, including the rare East German example as some have suggested. The turret just looks totally wrong, and nothing like an early M.

Here is my sunday update.

I got the running gear done.

I took off the extra track link that I had mounted on the rear and made those brackets from styrene and pe.

Ten I started what became rapidly a madening task The fuel drum support... man I need a hold and form and a soldering iron. CA glue can piss a man off I tell you.
Anyway I manage to build one without loosing my mind...I think.
The smal styrene part are the hinges pin...It could be fonctional.

Thanks for watching.

Hi Phil
If you can get the JS turret it will be O.K. I have one of his turret and its great, and was not all that expensive.
Now if you want too splurge then Miniarm is the Best, then
Blast. Whatever you choose just have Fun and Build it YOUR WAY

Thanks Mike. The turret will definitly stay...It's wrong but it will still look bad ass with al the extra love and pe.
I saw miniarm and blast turret and it was very tempting but, I must be carefull on the budget for I'm moving in febuary and will need every extra cash I can find!

It certainly can. I'm not very good at soldering but at least it keeps me from going crazy.

Hey Phil,

Nice update bro! Great job on tha tiny bits. If you get all the soldering stuff make sure you get proper solder, resin and a good iron. Im a veteran welder/manufacturer, and i cant solder to save my life!!!! I need a better iron and resin i think. Take practise i reckon and i guess i need more of it! Keep tha good stuff comin' brotha!!!

Thanks Walter! It is, indeed, an intoxicating vehicule to build. And I'm pretty sure it is the first of many
I try to get as much details as I can scratch, it keeps my mind at ease and my hand busy.

I've manage to get the fuel drum support in place using the tam piece and modifying to accept the pe part. It looks all crooked but it was only for test purpose the straps wont even be on this support since there will be only one fuel drum on the other side.

the drum, before and after...Or after and before

Thanks for watching

Walter has made an outstanding white T-72 belonging to UN. I stll remember it!

Great job as usual Phil!

Beware that on the fuel drum you have to add tubes and electric pumps

...but you already know don't you?

if I were you I'd use some wire made of lead or tin.

They are easy to bend, so it would be quite easy for you to replicate the exact shape of the actual tubes
