A note on the whole "trucks carrying planes" theme a few posts ago. It would also be nice to get your hands on the rare 1/35th scale model the German Storch and mount that in the back of a CCKW as a captured enemy aircraft.

Converting the Tamiya soft top Deuce to the enclosed cab variety:

First build the stock LWB Tamiya Deuce omitting the cab floorboard, cab backwall and both sidewalls.

Now capture the following parts from the Italeri water truck: cab floor, hood/cab roof and cab backwall.

Here the two part sets are dry fitted:

Notice in the prototype photo above; they have removed the CCKW's headlights! Seems odd, I would have thought they would simply tie off the ropes from the Piper's tail section somewhere else. Instead of going to the extra work of removing the headlights, perhaps just go over the brush guard and down to tie off directly to the frame.

Headlights not removed on other trucks carrying planes.
Maybe the headlight had been damaged at some time and not yet replaced.

For those interested, here is another reference photo showing the wing stem mounting arrangement on the Piper L-4.

In my disassembled Piper loaded in the CCKW I will have to model these attachments.

And of course the ever popular CCKW compressor truck.

Hi, Mike! I've got the CMK Le Roy Air Compressor and USAAF Fuel Tanker, plus the CALIBRE 35 Machine Shop Conversion kits, all meant for the TAMIYA 1/35 Deuce-and-a-half. I'm assuming that these conversions would fit the ITALERI chassis/cab assemblies? Still looking for that DUKW for your tires/wheels. I KNOW it's in my nephew's attic somewhere- I bought a resin wheel/tire update for this DUKW quite a few years ago. I haven't built the DUKW simply because I've never much cared for the looks of the real one. I know that's just bowing to aesthetics- someday, I WILL build it...

I recently bought a COMMANDER SERIES Ford GTB 1.5-ton Truck and a couple of Ford 3-ton Tanks, whose engines, transmissions, and drive-train were based on a backwards Model T!!!
The two Ford 3-Tonners will look nice next to my T3 Christie Tank...

Keep on building Dennis, keep on building . . .

On my bench right now . . . .

MAZ 537 F/A pusher tractor
MAZ 537 semi-tractor with scratch built correct driveline and engine
MAZ 547-66-A airport fire truck
CCKW knock down, packed for overseas shipment
CCKW locomotive with RR wheels
CCKW Air Corps fuel browser (scratch conversion)
2 - 300 gallon fuel trailers for above
Armored CCKW (kit bashed - really existed!)
Diamond T Wrecker
M23 8 ton US Ammo Trailer (full scratch except wheels and tires.)
CCKW hard cab conversion carrying knock down Piper L-4 (Bronco)
4 wheel German RR boxcar
8 wheel German Heavy Duty transport RR flatcar
CMP vehicle as captured German truck towing 60cm searchlight

AND I just received the Mirror Bullbozer and the HobbyBoss White 666 truck on the same day.

All I can say is that I bore easily. Either that or I must be crazy!

Is it one of those used by the French in Algeria (and Indochina before...) ?

Afraid not Frenchy. Yes, it was North Africa but it was during WWII and I guess the motor pool had a couple of damaged vehicles and decided to mate them together for a one of a kind vehicle.

Looks like a good idea to me!

I always liked the look of the armoured cab on the duece frame. Kind of the precursor to the modern uparmoured trucks. I wonder why the Duece never had armoured cabs. It would seem smart if they were operating as part of a forward supply chain, or moving troops around near the front.

I thought you would. I had posted photos of it here earlier. I intend to finish this one up by next weekend in time for the Indy IPMS show.

I doubt I will finish the CCKW with the Piper in time for that show!

You ain't th' only one, friend!!!

Don't feel bad- I buy up old 1/24 MONOGRAM 1930 Model A Fords and AMT 1929 Model As to kit bash 'em with FRANKLIN MINT and DANBURY MINT Model As along with different resin Model A bodies just to create different models than what's available out there- I'm sure that you're aware that the 1928/29 Model As had different bodies, radiator shells, tires and wheels than the 1930/31 As? I know that you're a fellow old car and Classic Car buff, so that's why I mention them...

Quite a while ago, I kit-bashed an old TAMIYA Horch Typ 40 Heavy Uniform Pkw with a TAMIYA Steyr 1500 Command Car body. I used the photo of a Luftwaffe Horch Typ 1 in the SCHIFFER "CARS of the WEHRMACHT" book as a guide. (bottom of page 60) LOTS of cutting, fitting, shaping, puttying and sanding on that one!!! I was also lucky enough to find a 1/24 resin Cord Waverly/Westchester Sedan Body for one of my MONOGRAM Cord 812 kits! I'll get to that, someday!!!

PS- What do you think of the HOBBY BOSS White 666 kits? Are you into US WWII Armor at all?

I am no Sherman expert by any means but still I have, I think 3 Sherman's, a Firefly, an M51 and also a M 32 in the stash!

Also I chopped a Steyr Kommandeur Wagon body down to fit on the Horsh medium field car chassis, just to make something that was't otherwise available. A lot of cut and fit went into that one! Then I took the left over Steyr body and scratch/ converted it to a Mercades field car. Often the bodies beyond the firewall were made by the same coach builder so any chassis can have just about any standard body on it.

I found reference photos that these vehicles actually existed and one is now commercially available as a model kit for MiniArt.

Of topic but just sharing:

Dennis, as to your question on the White 666. At first blush it looks like a top flight kit. The overall detailing looks fantastic.

The absence of an engine and of a cloth top for the load box takes me back a bit but other than that it looks to be a fine and an important addition to my US Motor Pool.

Saw one published criticism about molding seams on the rubber tires of the White truck. However I took my Dremmel tool to one of these tires and roughed up the tread and removed the molding line with little difficulty. The same was true of the tires on the Tamiya Dragon Wagon and I used the same solution there.

Still off topic!

And with the left over Steyr Chassis/hood/fenders, I built this. Waste not, want not. (And threw in a resin engine as well.)

Truck body and folding troop seats behind driver are scratch built using board on board construction.

I,m sure some one that posts on this thread will have the answer to this question.
In searching for resin wheels for the Duece and 1/2 I keep coming up with this write-up on Internet Modeler about a set of wheels from a Ukraine company. They look good, there is tire company names on the side walls and you drill the holes for the axle so they fit any Duece kit out there.
I'm also trying to track down who has the mold's for the KMC wheels for the Duece, missed out on some on E-Bay.
Thanks Dave M

I forgot one important piece of information in my previous post company name. According to the write up on internet modeler it's LTD Your Scale.
Now every time I enter LTD Your Scale or add resin wheels or some other reference to wheels to my search it all ways go's to the write up on internet modeler.

Started my White truck just last night. Beautifully engineered kit with great parts fit and many, many accurate part locator pins!!!

The mold sculpting on the cab cloth top is outstanding.

Hopefully someone like Black Dog (Hint, Hint) will do a nice top for the cargo box!
