I'm thinking for the #1 ribbon design, similar honest opinion with others, it represents all possibilities of vehicles that can be included in this campaign. Can't wait to see the final outfit

Cheers

Robert W.;

If you don't have a 251 in your stash, and you will be looking for a track to roll into this campaign with... remember that the 250 offers you all the same Germanic angularity, non-powered front axle, open top, and diversity - of - usage and interior fill that it's bigger cuz offers, with fewer little road wheels and itty-bitty track-links to fiddle around with! OK. So the 250 didn't come in a "pioneer" set-up with those little bridges (imagine! bridges on a 250 would look like a V-dub beetle with a 17' canoe on top! Hey! ), and probably also missed out on those wurframen... Hey! That's another idea!

In the more-serious vein, I think some of those Dragon 250 kits are super nice - and they seem to build up well and maybe with fewer major accuracy issues than some claim about D's 251 kits. Just saying... I'll admit it. I'm a 250 fan!

Happy Halloween, all!

Howdy everyone..

Don't want to sound like I'm tooting my own horn, but I thought I'd let everyone know if they want some photos to get in the mood. I have a photo Gallery with about 270 WWII era pics of German Half tracks.. everything from winter camo to 3 color schemes, pre-war to combat footage, Europe, North Africa, and Russia. and there are several photos of Greif in there. Its a hodgepodge type gallery, not divided up by vehicle or subtype. I think it gives the viewer the enjoyment of the thrill of discovery..

here is the link

WWII German Halftrack Photograph Collection

here is one of my favorite photos from the gallery. I've seen this photo in a couple of different reference books and magazines now and again, but no one every says "why", and I've always wondered... make a good show subject though.

anyways....

I'll only bug yall once with this....

Welcome aboard all up to 16, thank you!

Delbert:
Thank you for the link to your collection, helps feed my addiction to modeling!

As for the picture: I ask why as much as how?

Robert,
Argh. I was worried about the /33. Prototype made but not in service, no photos and the Dragon kit does look sweet.

Hmmm . . . I've seen several references to it including Panzer Tracts No. 20-2.

I think we can allow this 'Paper' 251 which was on the verge of production as there is documentation.

'Course this also opens the door to the 7.5cm Aufklaerungs-Kanone L/48 version which I find handsome.
And I would love to see someone pull it off.

But still no "what-ifs"/Panzer'46

Hi J Poitras,

Hi J.Poitras,
I think you mean this one yes

Sd.Kfz.251 7.5cm Selbstfahrlafette L40.8 Bussing-NAG

I found it in my Squadron/signal publications SdKfz251 in action book. There is only the one pic in there.

Would be nice to see someone do that.

More complex than the one I was referring to, but yes, that would make a fantastic conversion project.

Don't look at the picture of the car on the half track and ask "why?", look at it and ask yourself "why not?" I'm a bit tempted to build that now hahaha

dont know which way to plump but think AFV will be the brand... like the 251/7 but theirs is the ausf c and in "boring" grey... bison do some nice decals fo r the ausf-d and echelon for the c.... is there much difference between the c and d?

Indeed, the Ausf. D was a simpilfied Version of the 251er with way less amoured plates to be cut out.

But you dont need to buy an extra decal set, It´s often enough what you have in your spare box, especially on later vehicles (Ausf C and D) you can go just for livence plates, the late german crosses and maybe a unit symbol

very true... will have a look at the echelon kit to see what gives it the 3-colour scheeme (and do other research).... i guss it is less variance vs aricraft ... have some number plate numbers so thats a start...

of course i could get a std ausf.d the the afv pioneer set... perhaps even a cheaper tamiya -d.... interesting... course i wold then want to chang the tracks but frui, afv and hobby boss do them.....

not shure if I understood you correct, but if you want to build a historical correct vehicle you have much more artistic licence than on a plane...

The cammo pattern was often completely left to the Crew, so you just have use Brown and green over dunkelgelb, the pattern could be completely different to a other one from the same squad... it´s all your choice

what I thought I meant was "within a unit the only real difference in terms of decals is the number plate"... i am not a good enough painter to go for historically accurate camo schemes - have yet to do anything other than solid grey or Dunkelb... hahahahahah but have a StuG IV early to do in 3-colour so dont see why teh 251 cant go the same way....

the decal set I saw for the 251/7-d had alrage unit numbers on the rear doors and "names" on the side - tahts what made it look more interesting and for the cost maybe somethinG i could add... could just get teh Dragon /7-D and see (least then I dont also have to replace teh tracks ;-))

argh... still confused... no way I will build 2 kits for this campaign but have found the Dragon 250/9 Premium at a reasonable price (less than the AFV 251/7 i am tempted by).... hmmmmm decisions decisions.....

possible - never done one but doesnt mean i wont try. etting a bit fed up with the 2cm PAK - done 2 builds with it this year so think i will go open top and plump for the 251/7 plus the echelon decals for it...
