Robert, that interior looks really good, hope mines comes out as well.

Welcome aboard --Bent.

Glad to see you got the proper preparation for your second career as a teacher.

As for color, well that depends on theater and time frame.
The box art shows a machine with the DAK in North Africa 1941-42. like this:
http://www.thecollectorsshowcase.com/prods/Afrika_korp/CS00349_Main.jpg
you could also go with the classic German Grey if you were going the Polish or French campaigns or the early part of Barbarossa.

You could get away with the panzergleb (dark yellow) possibly with green and brown hand painted on but I don't think a hard-edged tri-color would be appropriate as that came later in the war and by then the 252/1s would mostly be replaced with model Ds

Along with the DML Neu Stummel, I dug this old girl out of the stash. I'm going to build this along side. We'll see which one I can get finished. I found a good pic of a GD vehicle in slight winter camo for a subject.

So not going to use any aftermarket updates for this build, but in typical fashion I am scratching quite a few replacement bits. During the week it took to get the undercarriage squared away I decided to jump ahead a little and work on the Jerry can holder and get a start on the tracks.

I like to sandwich sheet styrene into my jerry cans to represent the seam between the halves, but that makes them just a shade too wide to fit in the holder with the kit. Here are shots of the new holder with and without the cans in it.

And here is one of the tracks being built up in the jig I just created for the Build a Tool campaign.

The jig turned out to be very timely since these links need to be assembled with the horns down, which means they wouldn't lay flat otherwise.

Hope to not fall too much farther behind everyone else

Update for the Sd.Ffz.251 Pioneer conversion.
On the pictures you see the upper hull in color for winter camo.
I decided to join this campaign, because I already started on a re-build to upgrade my very old Tamiya D version (built some 30 years ago)
I've been experimenting on this old kit to see how it works, just to get the best out of the new builds.

I decided to cover the bridges with some very fine wood.
French cheese packages have a very fine and thin texture.
My idea to use some bamboo failed.

In front the Ausführung D. Not part of this campaign.
Experimenting with the winter camo. Also got a Track and wheel conversion from AFV club.
Together with the AFV Ausführung C there will be 3 at the end, all in winter camo, somewhere in Russia.

Cheers,

RJ

J Poitras - thanks for the links! They were a great time saver!

Thanks for the congrats on getting through school! Teaching would be the best job in the world if I taught nothing but orphans!

I think I will go with a DAK version. I took a look around my models and realized I've only ever done one other and nothing like it in 48th. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks, Hellbent

Cheese packaged in wood? I don't think as Americans we could imagine such a thing! On the other hand I don't suppose we in America could imagine "real" cheese like you guys have!

Anyway the bridges look great! The wood you used was perfect. It looked to me like some nice moulded styrene at first glance, and weathered great.

The winter camo also looks cool. Good job on that.

Thanks, Hellbent

Anyone have a couple of extra 1/35 250 track links they would be willing to part with? The photos I have seen of GREIF show a section of 3-4 spare links hung off the front, but the Gunze Sangyo kit only has 2 extra links in it (with luck, there will be no sacrifices to the carpet monster!)

Please PM if you are willing/able to help.

I'd like to join in with this Braille scale Sd.Kfz 251 from Fujimi.

I'm not sure whether to make this up as a 251/1 or 251/10, but it will be a Grossdeutschland vehicle.

Cheers

Hi.
Thanks a lot for the kind words. I just like the shapes of these halftracks. Been busy on the backside of the 2 C types. Some scratchwork needs to be done on both. Meanwhile I'm planning a little dio or vignete for the tripple 251.
Update next weekend.

Cheers,

RJ

Quick, got started update.

Transmission. I'm not going to build the fuel tank and air cylinder. They both will be covered by the fighting compartment floor.

Suspension arms.

And that's it for now. I'm leaning on building it as a straight-up Hanomag. I've got Miniart's German Infantry Resting figure set I might use in conjunction with it. The Master Box German figures that came with the kit are in my German Figures Depository.

Another update.

Front suspension and steering assembly assembled...

...and added to the lower hull.

Crew compartment benches and the under-seat storage boxes added. A little fit issue there. You'll have to open some location holes for the them.

Driver's area. I used the bland seats because you really won't see much of them except for the backs. And the backs have the spring detail molded on. The new seats will go in the spares with the PE springs.

Dash. Pretty straightforward here.

And there is where she stands for now.

Hi,
Finally, I am getting the knack of posting pics. The below 3 pics show where I am at with this build.

After a break on the 251 project for about one week, this morning she was on the table again.
Some progress made. All work on the old Tamiya kit forces me to scratch to make it look a bit better.
Wheels come from a 251 D, but don't fit on the C type kit.
Interior is the main part I'm working on right now. Still needs a lot of painting and detailing.

Back to the bench.

Cheers,

RJ

A quick update.

Mounted the fighting compartment to the lower hull. I'm skipping past the road-wheels and drive sprockets for now.

Side walls built up, at least the interiors. I went back and forth on adding the rifle holders at this point. I went ahead and added them. I figure that it'll be easier to add them now and shoehorn the rifles in later.

That's it for now. The kit isn't bad. The instructions are a bit odd at times. Not to mention the omission of the track assembly portion. I'm actually not really looking forward to the tracks.

Looks great so far Alex.
Don't know the brand, as I'm not familiar to work with it before. The AFV kit I'm building comes very close to detail as far as I can see. Like the detail on the gearbox/transmission. Follow this with interest.

cheers,

RJ

Thanks Robert. I've enjoyed your build as well.

The 251 is the CyberHobby kit. Both milvefan and myself are building one. It's miles ahead of the old Tamiya kit.

I am quite new to all of this and I am a little late to the show, but will be intending to build at least one 251, maybe 2! First up will be one of these from the Academy 3 in 1. I also have a Revel 251/3 ausf B itching to be built.

So for the last 2 days I have been trying to upload pictures of the kits before I start to show they are not started! Fingers grossed this works....
This should be the box top...
