Some pictures.
I started with the conversion for the Pioneer. Cleaned the resin put some paint on. Inside of the Tamiya hull was cleaned up. PE parts and railings in to position. PE comes from Azimut.
Difficult part is to get the right position in hight. Here the Tamiya parts are a help. Position of the frontseats is not correct with the resin part. So the AFV kit will help me out to find what is right(I hope).
Voyager PE has some nice detailworks for the fenders, MG, frontseats and some hinges.
The Maybach was big fun to build. Great in detail. Already gave the cooler a coat of white primer. It has some PE on it and is ready for a primer too.

Cheers,

RJ

Hi.
This is what I had in mind. After reading the review on PMMS on this kit, it had to be good.
Details on the AFV are outstanding. So my plan to get the engine in the front was worth to try.
Checking the sprue and dimensions of the gearbox on both sides, I just made a cut.

Dry fit of the situation of the 251/1 C

Cheers,

RJ

So I set my Neubau Fahrzeug aside for awhile while the oils dry, and decided to take advantage of the opportunity to get started on my Gunze Sangyo GREIF. The perils of building a kit that has sat in the box for nearly 14 years became immediately apparent...

Not the end of the world; I'll just glue and clamp by sections until everything lines up properly.

Progress on my 251/1 C.
To get the engine in front, I had to remove some of the floor in the front. All is still dry fit.
To get the engine in position I'm going to drill a hole at the end of the gearbox and make a small axle to fit it.
Inside has a thin layer of primer, so painting a basecoat can begin.

RJ

Hey all!

I'm sorry to be late getting here but i've been on a break from modelling for a while and thought it was best to jusst jump back in before anything else came up.

I've made probably 15 or so of the old Tamiya kit as a "testbed" for different techniques or learning new paints etc. For around $8.00 at HoLo with the coupon they make a great guinea pig!

I suppose this will be my first real purpose built 251. I thought about the Dragon pioneerwagon or the night vision variant but jumping back in to modelling with a 1K piece kit isn't easing back in... I have always really enjoyed 1:48th scale for armor and had this kit in my stash for going on 8 years so I decided on drumroll please...

The old (i prefer the term "vintage") Bandai Pin Point Series 251/1 in 1:48. IMHO a cool old series of kits with a lot of detail and goodies like full engines etc! Definately worth picking up.

I'd like to get pics up but can't seem to find how to do it from an Ipad (work gave me one... Cool but more of a hassle figuring out how to just make the damn thing "work". Can somebody point me in the right direction?

Thanks, Hellbent

I feel your pain! I love old kits but that is the price you pay

Cool deal on the Greif!
When I was stationed on Okinawa there was a flea market full of 18-20 something year olds as vendors that set up by the sea wall. A wierd mix of stuff but one day I ran across the Tamiya Tirpitz in1:350 for $20 on a dudes blanket. I still have that kit untouched over a decade later as a sort of souvineir! I'm not sure that I'll ever build that thing, it's too much of a memory...

I've experimented with uploading photos from the iPad, but found I still have to go to the PC to crop and size the photos any so it's easier for me to just post them directly from the PC anyway. The posting part itself is pretty much the same on the iPad; go to your photo gallery and look in the upper right corner to make sure you are logged into Kitmaker gallery, then click on the link to Upload photos. From there you can choose photos from your camera roll to post.

Minor Models make a PE set for a 'map desk' that sits around the top front of the fighting comparment. Presumably it's intended for a radio or artillery spotter version.

Looks pretty simple and it's only 6.50GBP. Not sure if they're including VAT with that or not.

Set numbers are 35062 and 35063. Not sure what the differences are.

I assume HoLo= HobbyLobby.

Nice starts everyone. I'll probably be starting on mine...well I don't know when I'll start to be quite honest. It could be next week or a month from now. I'm trying to catch up on a few things and close some other projects out.

I assumed the same.

Their 40% off coupon is fantastic.

Hi. Some progress.
I concentrated on fixing the engine in. It's a challenge in fractions of mm. Found out that the frontsuspension was my key to succes.
Picture is realy not good. But you can see that the Maybach is in line

Next little problem is the dash. Airfilter is pushing it out of position. So more surgery to be done by making the plastic as thin as I can, without damaging the rest.

Cheers,

like the look of that BUT i guess it wont fit with the pioneer bridges... I wonder if pioneer units would make it fit by hacking it apart... tempting

Those maptables seem to be used only by the 1st Pz.Div. during the campaigns in France and Barbarossa. Did an extensive research for my build of Maj.Dr. Eckinger's vehicle, one of the senior commanders of one of the infantrybattalions.
These were not used with engineeringbridges.

It isn't a 251/18 either. Just a converted 251/1 or 251/3 at best.

Was wondering why I've never seen one mounted; considering how many photos there are of 250 and 251s moving about in mass.

I think Minor claims it was a /4 conversion but that makes no difference.

Cool informqtion, Wiggen.

Yep, Hobby Lobby... Sorry about that, I picked it up on the forums here and it kinda stuck.

You ain't kidding about that 40% coupon. Plus look around for the clearance area. A lot of really nice kits from top end manufacturers wind up there because most of their clientele aren't as professional as we plastic sportsmen

I suppose it's like the casino, they always get me on the back end with all the money I spend in supplies and whatever the heck my wife buys

I'm sorry about the multiple posts, For some reason posting pics is baffling to me. I guess the nice part of campaigning is to learn and become proficient in new things.

I'm planning on starting right away but really have no idea where I want to go with the kit. Except, I want to build it OOB with maybe some minor additions. I think it would be cool to show the kit in it's natural form.

I do have 1/48 Archer dry transfers of SS divisions so other than that I'm kind of at a loss color scheme wise or what division to choose. What do you all suggest? Maybe link or picture?

Thanks, and I'm looking forward to learning and seeing some great stuff from you guys! Hellbent
