Hi all,
Well, I am going to build a Hippo BRV. I built the Bulldog BARV, and it only took 8 years... hope to build this one in 8 months...
Here is the start photo....
I didn't show the pile of styrene, other odds and ends, or the Volume 2 of Michael Shackleton's Leopard Trilogy that has the drawings that this will be based on.

Tom I will be watching your built especially the boom and winch as I am currently building the Ryefield version over in the Big Cats Campaign. Will you be adding Zimm or is it molded in
Posted: Sunday, January 01, 2017 - 05:47 PM UTC
I don't think it comes with molded on zimmerit, and I don't plan to add any. Just a plain out of the box build. It should become part of a collection of BergePanzers.

OK, my plan, as far-fetched as it might be, is to convert one of these:
Into one of these:
The British used Staghounds to build 5 mine-detectors they nick-named the "Bantu". It was not a very successful venture, but interesting nonetheless. Perhaps more daunting is that I have exactly 2 pictures to work from, the above one and this:
,
so I'll have a lot of (ahem) poetic license...
Let's have some fun!

Going have to check my schedule for this. I have the Academy IDF fitter in the stash but I do have a love for V.N. gun trucks, have the AFV Club M35A1 Quad 50 gun truck in the stash also.

Clayton.... Looks like an interesting build, looking forward to your Imagineering on the details. Oh, shouldn't you add your build to the front page?
Tom.... another odd one. Have always enjoyed the discussions of what it was actually built to do. Whatever it was designed to do, it definitely fits in with this campaign... looking forward to it.
As for mine....
Starting with the wheel weights... only 14 of them. Need to add the 4 retaining bolts to this one, and all the others.

Right then, I suppose I ought to post a pic of my intended build! (Shamelessly scanned from the excellent Tankograd book on the Leopard 1 "Later Years"...) It's a shop tractor, basically a decent runner pulled from the scrapline of Leos, Gepards, and Marders scrapped in the early '90s when a sudden attack of peace broke out in the Cold War. Aside from removing the gun and tools the only major change was the addition of a beam to support the semi-permanent tow-bar mounted at the rear. I'll be using an Italeri kit (once I dig it out of storage, hence no "box" pic today), and doing a ton of corrective surgery to bring it up to date before "tractorizing" it. Tracks will be the Meng indy-links even though my previous use of them showed the connectors to be a tad fragile.
@Bob, those wheels are so typically extreme! Thought abouty making one ring & resin-casting the rest? Or is sanity no longer your thing? Can't wait to see the build unfold...

Tom.... I have to admit that I am getting to love the odd ball stuff even more than the gun tanks. This one is definitely one that I would love to do one of these days, so if you end up casing some parts let me know if copies will be available.
As for the wheel weights, they weren't to bad. The worst part was drilling out the large center hole. Part of my issue is that I don't have access to a decent 3D modeling program... used to use Rhino 3D and Autocad, but since I retired I can't touch them. Suggestions?
Speaking of the wheel weights, they are all finished and put aside for later...
Lots and lots of little Meng boltheads....
Got the rear plate pretty much done. Just need to do the new light boxes and the spare track.
Speaking of box shots... this is the 8 sprues out of the kit of 20 that I am using... And I have the right track on its way, so I am not even using the track. Although I do need to modify the sprockets to "look like" the ones from the PzH 2000.

Bob, I'm an ACAD driver myself, so have limited experience with other software. Blender and Sketchup are the popular freebees, but I find Blender has a user-belligerent user interface! Looks like Autodesk is killing off 123D, but I've heard good-ish things about FreeCAD. Sorry I can't be more helpful...

The reason I liked Rhino 3D was because the interface, etc. worked like Autocad. I have seen some nice things in Blender, but like you said the interface is a killer. Might look into FreeCAD. Thanks for the help....

Chris... I use Imgur to host the images I post, and it gives me the code to insert into the messages I post.... About all I can tell you about it.... Sorry...
A small bit of progress on the Hippo...
The one exhaust trunk and attached tool box in place. The trunk is removable so that I don't knock it off every time I turn around. Final details when the basic structure is completed. Surprisingly the angled parts weren't as difficult to do as I thought they were going to be...

Hey Clayton. I don't get the enlist block above the participant's on my screen. Would enlist with the V.Nam gun truck but can't enlist on my screen. Is there any way you could enlist me.

Consider yourself in, Bob,and hopefully John or another editor can figure out the Enlist Button glitch...

Clayton, thanks a lot. Still can't get the enlist to show. This is a brand new slightly used computer my wife got me for xmass so I don't know half of the keys or symbols on it yet. I'm going to do the gun truck, really looking to get out of the modeling slump I'm in; this should do it. Will get a pic of the unbuilt kit up soon.

The usual reason for not seeing the Enlist button is that you are logged out.

Would an IT-28 bridgelayer fit this campaign?
