Progress update.

Very nice indeed Lap man

Okay time to show I have not been (too) tardy. Tamiya Challenger 1 mk 3. Road wheels cleaned up, some work on Hull and chassis, but the turret has seen most of the work. Some improvements made:




Blanked off the roof ventilator and rear gun area so you can't see through:

And some work on the side armour panels - one of the 3 major weaknesses in the kit, they are too simplified. Mine also suffered from sink marks as seen here. I may have made these too thick with the additional backing and will have to redo them.

Also the cupola has had a pin inserted for the cover to open and close (will save masking the transparent part for painting later when the etch piece will be in the way. I can prime and paint this, insert the transparency, then close it when I airbrush!


The other big issues in the kit are 1) the rear turret basket that is beveled on the corners not rounded like it should be, not deep enough (hull outward) and has a lid that is basically detailed backward (these hinge from the outer edge, not the edge closest to the turret)..

...and 2) the front of the hull is the Mk 1 type with the section behind the light clusters recessed and two 'v' shaped holes in the front upper hull, which need to have covers over them.

Hi Tamas. I am going to model a specific vehicle shown in the Concord "Operation Granby" book. It was taken just after the armour upgrade was added and it has some interesting colour contrasts to the desert stone paint colour that I hope will break up the monotony.

Minor update on my Ariete. The rubber tracks had to go - far too much flash around the end connectors, and being very rubbery there was no way to trim. Instead I spent ages building the excellent Bronco indy-link tracks - hours of tedium in return for a definite improvement! (Eight sprues, and each took over an hour of clipping, cleanup, and assembly...)



There is colour on the hull too, and gloss, and decals. Need to start detail painting, then weathering, before final assembly. Should just make it by the deadine...

Tom, the Bronco tracks are nice aren't they. I agree that the end result is worth the effort. I Have built a few of their sets now.

Jose the stowage is going to real add interest there.

Dragon T-72 w/ERA SMT M-1988 finished.

I have also built the Trumpeter's Ariete C1 kit using the Bronco tracks and Lion Roar A/M set. Loved them all.

Great Job Lap Man. You really added some depth and variation to the single paint colour. Fantastic job.

thanks guys, there are a few niggles that I have with the finished item but I will take those on board for the Challenger 2 that I have in the stash.

I finally got round to finishing off the build of my Tamiya T-72. It hardly seems worth posting progress shots as it's such a simple build...




The only thing that isn't OOB is the mesh at the back.

Lots of excellent builds showing up here, also of kits not often seen, like the Challenger I and the Ariete. I‘d like to comment on them individually, but the combination of work (same old story) and being in a lot of campaigns simultaneously has really been eating up a lot of time (especially the BM-27 Uragan for the Launchers campaign was pretty labor-intensive)...

Anyway, here are some progress pics of my T-80UD, the camo basecoat is finished and in the next few days I‘ll be weathering it:
