Hi all,


Welcome to the Official Tank Destroyer Campaign and Happy new Year!

i have been totally bowled over at the response of people signing up for this campaign, i didn't think it would get much interest, boy was i wrong.

I am going to join with the Revell 1/35 M901A1 ITV tank hunter.

I have not started or even decided on the camouflage yet. More to follow later, but below are some of the pictures I use as inspiration for my build.

Hi gents, this will be my submission., a Jagdpanther Aust G1 by Meng. I'm going to try and replicate one of the JPs attached to 9 SS Pz Div Hohenstaufen during the Spring Awakening offensive in Hungary 1945.

You're Welcome. Saves me re posting from the proposal thread. Interesting to compare the two, as I understand Tamiya made quite a few changes to the M10 kit to change it into the M10 17 pounder.

Difficult one. The 122 mm was a field howitzer and Stephen Hart's book on Russian Tanks describes it as an SPG with a primary tactical role to provide direct infantry support attacking prepared defences. They also served in Soviet medium SP artillery regiments. However, they did have HEAT rounds for anti-armour capability, and much the same could be said for the Stug 111, certainly the earlier models, and I don't think anyone would question a Stug being included in this campaign.

I think its a question of primary tactical value. While a howitzer based spg could carry a few HEAT rounds for when things got dicey, its primary role would be as artillery and fire support. The early StuG 3s carried the short 75mm L/24 gun primarily for infantry support. But as the war developed, the need for anti tank support became increasingly important. Although the short barrelled StuGs could destroy tanks, they had to advance perilously close, which wasn't ideal and was not their intended role. A change was thus effected by the Waffenamt, causing the StuG 3 to be armed with the 75mm StuK 40, a high velocity weapon primarily designed to destroy armor. Thats why the 105mm StuH was developed thereafter to address the need for infantry field support. So, IMHO SU-122s would be more like artillery, as opposed to the SU-85 and 100. StuK 40 armed Stugs could be construed as tank killers, but the StuH and StuG 3 A through E were primarily artillery. Just my $0.05 worth of input.

As I participate in another campaign I think I'll start this one in a couple of months.

it's a tricky one that's for sure because if like me you play world of tanks then you find that vehicle in the tank destroyers tech tree.
rather than force someone to buy another kit I'm prepared to let this one in as it did have specific ammunition for destroying enemy tanks rather just improvising using what vehicles were lying around as it where.

as for paper panzers, I will leave that to later on this year as there seems to be a growing interest in that area.

I tried to build Miniart's SU-85 with interior perhaps two years ago, but the amount of work spent on interior was just too much. Hopefully better luck with simpler version of the same model.

Planning to paint this to all green scheme.

Oh, I really want to thank everyone for their responses related to this. I think everyone is RIGHT, this is not a true TD. Sometimes, the question is also the answer. But I think everyone for their responses. I have several campaigns that I am committed to, so I may join this later in the year with a proper entry.

I have now updated the rules as it was kindly pointed out that i hadn't updated them since the old thread so that has now been taken care of.

i still need to find an engine for this kit, so if anyone has any info regarding after market jagdtiger engines in 1/35 scale i would appreciate it.

Hi David ... copycat... looks like its another Jagdtiger lol... still you cant get enough of them ...
I would try the TAMIYA 35180 German Engine Maintenance Crew as a start point, its basic but a decent lump to start from with some basic scratch add ons like wire and tubing etc it works ok. I've used it a few times in the past.
