Great info guys! Just Wondering but you think the Tamiya Mutt with Tow Launcher would be ok for this Contest?

Heh heh - Absolutely - it'll likely fit in somewhere when it's all decided!

Cannot wait to see the rules. I'll be certainly on board for the campaign. Also for me prizes are not that motivating and I love the idea of a campaign ribbon. I hope that time will not be too tight, I can spend very little time at home modeling due to with my job...

Well Sniper - I think you've gotten a lot of good suggestions here to make one. All I can say is that the more complicated it becomes, the less participants will make it to the finish line.
I too am all for not having a monetary or trophy award. I think it's fun just to participate in your own way - and if this becomes a Campaign - then the Campaign Ribbon is a nice thing to have upon completion.
Looking forward to seeing how this all pans out...
Gunnie
I agree with Gunnie.

OK, the response has been GREAT!
It seems most people don't want any prizes, only a campaign ribbon. That's fine, let's go for the campaign. I guess we'll have to find out what the rules for a campaign are.
Now, about OOB, etc. Since this is not going to be a contest with prizes at this point, I don't see why OOB or superdetailed matters. We won't be 'judging' who has the 'best' model, we'll only be wanting to do the best job 'we' can.
But, I think mostly OOB with the small additions (IF an individual modeller chooses) is a good way to go. No, there is no need to spend $50 in aftermarket. I do not want to limit anyone who may participate though. So if an individual wants to do some type of conversion, I think that should be fine. The point of the build would be to have fun and share our work. If that's OOB, great. If it means a bit of minor scratch building, cool.
As far as what can be built or what era, I think Cold War is good. To me, the Cold War would mean anything from 1950 through 1990. This WOULD include Korea and Vietnam. It may also include places like Afghanistan, Prague, the build-up of NATO in Europe, etc. Even the Arab - Israeli wars could be considered as both the Soviets and US were supplying weapons and resources.
I see lots of different interests here and I don't want to exclude anyone by being too specific with the timeframe. But, I don't think the space between 1950 - 1990 is limiting!
Also, I think somone could build softskins, rockets, artillery, etc.
I would also hope people are able to do a little research about what they are building and maybe even the conflict in question. Its good for all of us to not only build, but also learn something new. If we then share what we find out, we'll all benefit.
Again, my primary goal is to get people to build some of those modern kits thay may have in the closet. Right now we are all lucky to have not only a great selection of WWII subjects, but also awesome modern stuff. I think of the recent Bulldog, Pershing, T-55, etc. I'm sure someone may be able to come up with a list of what's out there! Hint, Hint!
So, I guess we need to get a list of who's in, what they may want to build and start thinking about dates...
I think it's going to be a fun build!

sniper - you've put this together well. I am interested - I need to check the M113 I have at home to make sure I can get it into the correct period.

Count me in... I'll find some way to do a WWII subject in "modern" clothes like a Syrian panzer IV or maybe a Sherman in Isreali service? I'm not sure.
Here's an extra little bonus.
I will post a bunch of modern era kits in the For Sale Board.
All will have VERY competitive prices... I have been wanting to get rid of the kits... now you guys all have a reason to buy them.. I'll post the list tonight.
Later,
Tim

Hey,
I'll join in, however can we wait to start until the day after AMPS? Just because myself, and I would imagine some other modelers are trying to finnish other projects up before the show, also, since the early versions of the Leopard were developed during the cold war by Western Germany, would it be okay to build a Leopard 2A5 currently in service? It's just I have an interest in the Leopard 2A5 and may not build one otherwise...

Syrian panzer IV
One of those ended up here: http://www.aaftankmuseum.com/ " TARGET="_blank"> http://www.aaftankmuseum.com/ This museum used to be on Long Island but moved to Virginia a few years ago. The home page photo features the tank in question and if you look closely, above and behind the tank is one of teh Martian ships props from the 1950's sci-fi movie War of the Worlds .

I'm game. I've got a few appropriate kits that need some prodding to go from storage shelf to work bench. M-60A2, M-48A3, T-80, and a few others that I've never gotten any PE for. :-)

I've got the SKIF T64BV but I already bought the Eduard set for it... so I may not build it on the occasion.
I also have the TOW MUTT.

I'm getting pretty excited about this! It looks like some really interesting model vehicles will make an appearance. I can't wait to see them and learn something new about them too!

Just not sure what russkie vehicle to make.
Are we allowing any kit in now? I have several all-resin kits this contest could motivate me to build, but I want to ok it with the rest of you all.

If there is some type of campaing ribbon, does someone design that?
Not sure what I want to build, but I do have several DML Pershings in the closet. Have always wanted to do one in a cold weather Korean war scheme. Guess that would be a literal interpretation of Cold War! But, there's so many other things to choose from...
