Are we allowing any kit in now? I have several all-resin kits this contest could motivate me to build, but I want to ok it with the rest of you all.
To me, a kit is a kit. I have no problem with it. We may all be able to learn from your experince with what you decide to build.

There are lots you can choose from. On the VC side, they did use some T34-85's. The Americans used just about everything they had at the time. Although it was a limited war as far as armor. You could use M113, Bulldogs, etc. I'm sure we have some Vietnam experts here...

Wow I havent been online since last night and look at the progress!
You can count me in too sniper.
By the way the timeframe 1950-1990 sounds good to me.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a good machine to build?

I'm encouraged that I'm not the only one interested in "Cold War" subjects - but - don't confuse that with excluding "modern" times. The Cold War period ran through the 1950's until the Wall came down in the 1980's in my mind - that included Abrams and Leopards too. It is a wide enough period that all but the most recent items (Desert Storm and later) in modern inventories can be included.
Additionally, most arsenals were factored in one "side" or the other in Cold War strategies - even the Independent French Armed Forces. Cold War is quite inclusionary - not exclusionary like other specific conflicts mentioned - allowing for many subjects to be included in the wide time period.
I wouldn't participate in an "airbrush excluded" activity either. Just no fun there for me and I have no desire to rediscover the "joys of handpainting" I left behind almost 20 years ago - but you guys could go and knock yourselves out without me! I'd cheer you all on just the same!

I am in. It looks like we have gone from "modern" to "post WWII-present" but it still sounds like a great time. I think that is a good idea in itself and will have some real creative entries. My wheels are already turning trying to decide what I want to do. It is hard because I would like to do something from Korea, Vietnam, 1980's cold war period, and something in service now but I can decide on one. Maybe in the future we can narrow things down a bit, but this has some great wings, lets go with it. Like I said, count me in.

Thanks for the site Tankshack but i don't think you'd want my Canadian loonies. Anyway I am considering Tamiya or another good quality manufacturer because im pretty sick of dealing with the crap you get from the others. Does anyone have any good suggestions of a valid kit for this build from Tamiya or the like? I have a Tamiya Sherman(not Built) and really like the look of what Tamiya has to offer.

WOW....I checked this thread this morning...and it was on page 5.....I come back 12 hrs later and we are on page 9!!!!
Anyway...count me in....I just have to decide what to build....with such a wide timeframe....that puts pretty much makes everything I have available, with the exception of a few....namely my M2A2 Bradley, Challanger Mk 3 for sure would be out...maybe the Mk1 as well...not sure when they came out....but if we are going till 1990....then the British would have had the Mk1 for sure. MLRS? would that be out?
Actually I was thinking....it would give me a reason to either do my M113 or my M577.....and do one or the other up like Canadian equipment stationed in Germany.....now there is an idea!!!
Are we talking just the AFV...or could we do a simple diorama with it.......as the M577, I would like to have the table set up, with the cam nets all around..and the troops of the 577 milling around a map on the table.....now that I have just spelled this out....that would be more of a big diorama...so maybe not.....oh well....so many choices!!!!!!!
Anyway...as I said....count me in....just let us know when it starts!!!
Thanks!

I'ld like to join in too. I've got a slew of kits from the era. Are we Each going to do something different? Is it any vehicle (softskin, APC, Armor)? If they want variety to you have to choose right now what you're going to model.?

WOW!! 21 people would like to give this a go. I think we'll see some awesome models.
I think I will need to ask someone for help as a co-organizer. If anyone wants to help out let me know.
I guess we should start thinking about dates now. Maybe start a new thread. Also, I hope everything is within the rules of Armorama. Is it OK we are doing this group build and what other permissions do we need?

I believe the next step is to contact Jim with the idea of fleshing out the Campaign - i.e. setting up the folder and establishing start/stop dates in concert with the other events planned. This thread is a great reference for getting the provisions of the Campaign nailed down.
If you need/want an assistant - I'll volunteer to help you out. I can also contact Jim for you too.

I know the feeling! I guess it just needs to be built on time. What did you have in mind?
If people would like, they might start giving some idea of what they would like to build. Then we can put together a tentative list.
-- My first thought is a Pershing (DML kit) from the Korean War. I like to do Winter camo and mud, so this might be a good choice for me. It's also a vehicle I really like the looks of. --
I'm also thinking of getting a little background info for the Cold War period. maybe someone out there has some links we could take a look at?

I would like to try my hand in this. How does this work? Do I just send in pictures of a completed model? I have a couple that I am getting close to finishing or do I have to start all new?
Thanks,

Thanks,
I feel the "spirit" of the Campaign would be to select and build a model along with the other participants. It's difficult to keep people from "dusting off the shelf" - so the honor system is in effect with us all.
Providing in-progress photos and updates helps out here too - and we can spur each other on to completion. The completion photo should be the one that "earns" the modeler his or her Campaign Ribbon.
I plan on doing more than one subject - maybe even a triple-header - US, Japanese, Israeli, something wild like that! There's only one ribbon naturally, but it think it'll be fun to go for it and finish more than one if I can. I think if everyone posts what they're working on
when Jim creates the Campaign Folder to keep it organized then we'll have a better idea of how it'll look at the end and maybe lessen the chance of working on the same thing.
With 22 modelers out there (right now) that should be one impressive folder when the Campaign ends.

I am the King of MUTTS. I have 14-15 of these done, including two Tamiya backdated to original configuration, two armored versions, 3 Israeli (Scout, TOW and TOW support), Verlinden Recoilless rifle conversion, a 3 color Euro scheme communication vehicle on the Artic enclosure conversion by CMK, I think, a couple towing "field mod" trailers and an ambulance with a scratchbuilt litter extension, as well as the standard versions from the box.
