I hope so. Still waiting to hear back from Jim. Maybe my message didn't go through, but I'm sure its probably due to the fact that it's the weekend.
So, hold tight.
Should call this the M113 Campaign! #:-)
Glad I decided against that IDF version I was considering!

You don´t need to spend $$$$ in all that stuff. You can make a really good looking T55 jaust with your skills.

The time frame is good for me also. I have several (the wife would say too many!) kits in my inventory so I could switch away from a T72M1 if we have too many. Currently working on a T72B. Anyone know of a source for the swing out side skirt panels and hinges or is this a scratch build item?

I think I'll switch from the M113 to the M47 Patton. This campaign looks to be a real challenge! Can't wait for bullets to fly.

I think the Patton is an excellent choice!
I know there's a LOT of choices out there!

I'm thinking of buying the Academy LVTP7 (kit no. MH1344) or Academy M738 Engineer Vehicle (kit no. MH1390) for our build.
Anyone built these, know anything about them, or can tell me how accurate the kits are?
Thanks!

The LVTP is a knock off of the Tamiya kit which is a nice, big easy build but suffers from a lack of interior detail. Expect the Academy to be a little less crisp than the Tamiya, if experience with M-151 kits holds true. The M728 is based on either their M-48 or 60 tank kits. I built their M-48A5 and M-60's and these were mostly new kits with some old Tamiya knockoff parts. Expect a very good model since the dozer blade has to be completely new as well.

Al informed you about the origins of the kits, the Academy M728 (not M738) is an error in their catalog. Kit #1390 is actually an M60A1 RISE/Passive tank with M9 dozer blade and ERA. I have this kit. They never did a M728 CEV. All CEVs are based on the M60A1 chassis and never were based on an M48 chassis. I started my military career as a CEV crewman almost 20 years ago, only difference I noticed in them throughout the past 20 years is way back in the Guard we had side loading air filters, later ones I worked with in 1st Cav had top loading air filters.

At the risk of "shameless self promotion", I do have the Tamiya kit (35136 - LVTP7A1 - Early version) as one of the Items for sale right now...
It's a deal in addition, you have the option of trying the Trumpeter kit. Which by the way, is not a direct copy of the Tamiya... but does have many similiarities.
The details are very, very similiar.
You can see the other items at

I know I'm coming a little late to this party (just found the thread, actually), but please count me in. I don't have much in the way of post WWII in the ol' stash, but then again, just another reason to GET MORE STUFF! #:-) And maybe build something....

well, for starters...
the Trumpeter LVTP7A1 kit is about 4mm or so thicker around the whole vehicle, added to make the vehicle taller from aout he middle up. This was done to make room for motorization stuff, and is wrong. Same with the LVTP7 w/UGWS and EEK ( I know the name changed, but I cannot think of the correct designation)
The academy kit is correct for the second version of the LVTP7, with the recessed headlights, and is different from either Tamiya kit. SO, technically, you could build three seperate, different, adn correct LVTP7 models.
Since we are going to be fairly strict on this being cold war(pre-1991) and not modern (1991-) I think I will have to change my build...maybe a T-72 with KMT-4 and KMT-5, or a ASU-85, heck maybe a softskin! #:-)

I'm doing a BMP-1 in Iraqi service-would it fit the cold war theme or would I have to do a russian one?

Yes - you could do that because the Iraqi's had the vehicle in service before 1991.

I read on a web site that the M1 Abrams came into service in 1985 so an Abrams would therefore be pre 1990/91 have i got my facts right ?

Yes - just make sure that the variant you want to model is pre-1991...

Prior to my departure from Germany in December 1990, we had gone through at least 5 different Abrams variants starting with the XM1, M1, M1IP, M1A1, M1A1-HA and when I returned to Ft. Knox during the Summer of 1991, we sat through demos of the M1A2. No M1A2 had been fielded to the line forces yet though.

Hmmm what to do, what to do.....so many people on here, its hard to get a unique subject.... I do have 3 versions of the BRDM...haven't heard anyone mention that yet....also have BM-21 GRAD I was thinking of....but would definatly only get that one kit in that time period!!! LOL...lots of parts on the GRAD!!! Or maybe the SGT York I have....although that was never officially in sevice....would that still count? Was thinking of doing a Canadian M577 command post with a Canadian M113 in a dio.....but....we ain't doing a dio either....not to mention that it seems that everyone is doing either m113s or t72s.
LOL...someone choose for me.........lol...I can't make a decision!!!!!

Hey Sniper.
Now with all these posts I think it is really time to get on Jims case regarding the status of this campaign. If we don't get something soon i can foresee this getting extremely confusing!

Ok.....after reading thru all the posts and liking what I saw :-) I decided to join.
I will be building Tamiya's 1/35 M60A2 "Starship". I was going to make a M113, but it seems alot of people are already planning on building the 113 and its variants and I wanted to build something different. It doens't get much diffrent than the Starship. I will build this OTB.
Cheers,

I guess he mentioned some computer problems, so we have to be patient.
I hope we can get going by the end of the week. I'll try another PM tomorrow.
In the meantime, we can all think of what we would like to build and then we will get it all sorted out. Still have some people signing on, which is GOOD!
