Hey Sniper.
Now with all these posts I think it is really time to get on Jims case regarding the status of this campaign. If we don't get something soon i can foresee this getting extremely confusing!

I guess he mentioned some computer problems, so we have to be patient.

I hope we can get going by the end of the week. I'll try another PM tomorrow.

In the meantime, we can all think of what we would like to build and then we will get it all sorted out. Still have some people signing on, which is GOOD!

Steve

I think this should go without saying - but - there is no need to "get on Jim's case".

There is no need to sit around and wait for the Campaign Folder to appear either - go get your stuff and get crackin! You all have been given the window for the Campaign already - there's time to gather your material right now before the launch date - and if you want - cut some plastic prior to the Folder creation. If you set out on your project early, save your notes and photos in the meantime. From what I've read here - we probably won't have too many instances of duplicating subject vehicle projects to be overly concerned about.

Hey guys, I must have been asleep to miss this thread. Count me in also. This will warm me up for the Barbarossa campaign. Now to go through the stash. I think I have something in there. An Abrams?, M60A3?, Bradley (M2 or M3)?,M47?.....Hmmmmmm Gotta check the references......

I didnt mean "get on his case" in a negative way. Sorry if that was implied.
If anyone wants to (and has the computer skills, I dont) they could check out the "campaign" in the warships section. Yodaman made a really great online poster which I think is a great way to get the rules across to everyone.

Good luck to Jim with the computer problems, and sorry for the impatience!

Sure, why not? Perhaps US M113 APC's deployed to Egypt for the Bright Star Exercises comes to mind. I'm sure there are many possibilities...

Hmmm what to do, what to do.....so many people on here, its hard to get a unique subject.... I do have 3 versions of the BRDM...haven't heard anyone mention that yet....

Aw dang. :-) I was thinking of changing my subject (m41A3) to a Russian vehicle like the BRDM (small and simple to build). :-) Nah.. you mentioned it first (and you got the kits already - I haven't! :-) )

Here is my list I am looking at.

Tamiya Challanger Mk1, would say the Mk.3....but I don;t think it qualifys
Tamiya M577 Commang Post...done as a Canadian
Tamiya M113 APC done as a Canadian version, but as alot are also doing the 113...I will probably not.
Tamiya LVTP-7....thats a maybe
Tamiya Merkava I.....I beleve this would qualify...not sure when they first came into service
Tamiya M2A1 Bradley....I belive this would qualify as well....
Tamiya M247 Sgt York....not sure if this would qualify as it was never in service...
Dragon BMP-1
Dragon BRDM 2
Dragon BRDM 3
Dragon MLRS.....again....I think this would qualify....surely must have been in service prior to '91
Dragon T-80.....not sure, but this may be too new for a cold way build.
Arsenal BRDM 1
Academy Flakpanzer gepard
ICM BM-21 GRAD
just to name a few....not to mention a TOW Humvee and a cargo pickup Humvee!!!

Someone help me decide!!!!!!!

I'd sugest Tamiya's LVTP-7 since it looks so different and I haven't seen many built.

the T-80 and MLRS entered service in the 80's, and both would qualify.

I have decided on a OOB M110A2 ahh, the sight of that beauty's shells going off on the impact range in the early morning, the concusson wave running through the fog and mist....just gotta do one. too bad Panzershop's 2S7 is not yet available.

Yes, but most likely an M113A2 or M113A3. The old 24th ID at Ft. Stewart, GA used to keep their stuff tan and desert camouflaged, 1st Cav at Hood and 3rd ACR when they were at Ft. Bliss as well.

:-) No problem really! :-) I already have a kit but if I do build it the way I planned on building it months ago (before this thread went up), I'll probably not be able to finish it on time - unless I don't go to work, school, eat, sleep... #:-)

Merkava I is a definite Cold War subject. Entered in service in the mid-late 70s or early 80s. Merkava III maybe not - early 90s I guess.
MLRS - Definitely qualified.
T-80 - depends on which variant. The T-80 was already in service before the Cold War ended. It had by then replaced most T-72s in front line service IIRC or equipped the Category A divisions, while the rest got T-72s.

I'd like to do an SA-9 Gaskin BRDM mobile SAM myself but last time I saw the kit on the shelves was five (!) years ago!

Bombshell,
I am going to join in and build my M-60A2,as recieved in January 1976.I have a completed kit, built in Germany, and now I will build another, with my much improved skills. There will be the sacrifice of a Tamiya M-48 if I can find one,for the searchlight, and fire extinguisher handle box for the front slope. Since I will build it as a Pre labor day 1977 vehicle,it will have the chevron tracks,I have some A/M ones that are much better than the kit supplied vinyl gunk.
As a A2 vet,I will point out the specific add ons the Tamiya kit needs to go the extra distance.

For you guys interested in doing a T55 for our build, you should check out the "My new T55 has arrived!" thread.

There's about 8 pages of info and a lot of really good photos of Gunnies' T55 under construction. And now (thank you Gunnie!) some photos of my havily weathered Syrian-like camo T55.

Good to hear that TankCarl. Maybe we can coordinate our builds. I will build mine OTB. However, I do intend to do something about the lack of mesh on the bustle racks and the lack of mantlet cover on the gun. In terms of paintjob I will go with a overall OD since I am not very good at spraying camouflage.

I'm thinking of buying the Academy LVTP7 (kit no. MH1344) or Academy M738 Engineer Vehicle (kit no. MH1390) for our build.

Anyone built these, know anything about them, or can tell me how accurate the kits are?

Thanks!

Al informed you about the origins of the kits, the Academy M728 (not M738) is an error in their catalog. Kit #1390 is actually an M60A1 RISE/Passive tank with M9 dozer blade and ERA. I have this kit. They never did a M728 CEV. All CEVs are based on the M60A1 chassis and never were based on an M48 chassis. I started my military career as a CEV crewman almost 20 years ago, only difference I noticed in them throughout the past 20 years is way back in the Guard we had side loading air filters, later ones I worked with in 1st Cav had top loading air filters.

OK, went to the hobby store today and my credit card threw a tantrum. So..... I had to buy it a Tamiya M1A1 with Mine Plow (not for this campaign!) and the Academy M60A1 Rise with M9 Dozer Blade (kit no.1390).

Will this M60A1 be OK for the build? Can I get more info on this vehicle. Rob, I'm looking in your direction!

Did I screw up here!! #:-)

Steve

PS - A quick look at the kit and it seems OK. I think I will look for aftermarket tracks and the 'rubber' road wheels scare me a bit. Can they be painted like plastic? Seems like a gimick and goofy feature to me!

Yes, that M60A1 had been in use for decades, the ERA came on around 1989-90. The blade had been in use about as long as the original M60.
