Unless I missed a post (and if I did, kindly - kindly - please direct me to it), does this Cold War theme mean any vehicle used by NATO and the Warsaw Pact, or does it mean anything regardless of country in which it served, during the Cold War days. Sorry, I don't want to complicate the rules, I was just merely asking for specifics.

Agree with you either Sniper or Gunnie needs to post rules in one place over 100 posts here. Tie them together Guys and I think the T/55 for me as I do not own one so here goes.

And I too really don't want no money. The thrill of the chase is what gets me.

Dates are ok with me, but the rest it's getting a bit messy and difficult to follow (we are on page 13 of replies!), don't you think that is time to get a bit more organized?
I suggest to:
- continue messing up this thread
- start a new thread with the campaign rules (dates, exact period definition for the models to partecipate - if only cold war of from cold war to now -, ecc.)
- once we now exactly which rules we have to stick to, crate another thread only for the campaign subscription (ie. Scoccia - Fabio, with tis and that model)
Sorry for that but not all of us can spend as much time as we wish on the hobby, so having a clear path in fron of us can be helpful for a few of us, and I think in this way we can also simplify the life of who's organizing all these...

Classified? Sounds dangerous!

YIPEEEE! :-)
Truth be told: I haven't decided what my subject would be. Ahehe... I would just love to go Russian but there are very few Russian MBTs here, mostly BMPs and BTRs. I might do a German (Leo1, Leo2) or (oh dear God, not again!) an M1 If an M1, perhaps the basic M1 Abrams (105mm) - which means the Academy M1A1 and modifying it. Hehehehehe!

Aint the rules oob only?

Here, here! I must admit that I don't understand if we are allowed to enter any modern model kit or there is just one that everyone should build..

I think Fabio's suggestions make sense.

Im glad that the T-72 Qualifies but would I have to build a certain version? because T-72's were in production untill around the 90's. They are to be replaced with the T-90 now correct?
Im not an expert but this is what I gather from recent research.

I'll contact Jim for assistance in setting this all up guys - just sit tight.

All the provisions and rules are already here in the thread - easy to find.

The theme is "Cold War" - time period from 1950 to 1990. Not only are US and Soviet machines eligible - but machines from many different conflicts during this time period are elibigle as well - because the "Cold War" between the two superpowers was played out in many different areas.

Japanese, West German, Warsaw Pact, Israeli, South African, Arab, Indian, Pakistani, Middle Eastern Forces, Egypt - I could go on and on - but I hope you're getting the picture.

The only machines excluded would be Persian Gulf War (Desert Storm) 1991 and going forward to today. (We made allowance for one exception - a Leopard 2A5 because the modeler really wants to build it).

Out of the Box to superdetailed is okay - just build it and finish it - modeler's choice! If you want to build more than one - fine - just do it and finish it.

No more rules - simple - quick and dirty.

I believe the M-113's in Vietnam were white inside. At some point, they were repainted pale green (sea foam green).

Have sent a PM to Jim yesterday and am waiting to hear back. Hopefully, all will be set soon.

For our 'Cold War Cook-off' the rules, as Gunnie has stated above, are simple.

If we have 25 or so participants, I hope we will have about 20 different vehicles. If we do have some duplicates, hopefully they will be from different time periods, different countries service, different versions, etc.

Again, I am more interested in people doing something they really want and having fun. If we have two T-72's, thats OK with me. But, I think this is also a great opportunity to look for that unusual vehicle that you've never thought of trying!

Everyone has a few weeks to get any kit they will be working on and do a little research. (My thought is to do a Pershing from Korea, but am still undecided. I also have a DML Sherman from the same conflict. Then again, I have never done a Vietnam subject...)

Until we get our own folder or whatever happens, we can continue to post here to avoid confusion.

Steve

I go back as far as '75 and the 113's were white interior, if I did a 'Nam version that's how I would paint it (come to think of it.....I am!)

I believe the M-113's in Vietnam were white inside. At some point, they were repainted pale green (sea foam green).

I'm fairly sure the interiors were not repainted until the older vehicles were rebuilt and updated. The white interior M113s were just phased out as newer M113A2s arrived with the sea foam green interior. IIRC, my Guard unit had an older M113 that originally had been OD green with white stars and white interior. A motor pool-applied MERDC-type scheme was painted over the OD/white and the white markings were semi-visible through the camouflage paint. Interior was never touched. Newer M113A2s had the sea foam green interior. Like Al, I am unsure when the big changeover occurred.

BTW, the T-72 and T-80 were both on the scene prior to the end of the Cold War. As far as specific variants of the T-72 or T-80 like the T-72M1 or T-80UD, that I am unsure about. My references do say that the T-64 was kind of a flop. Much like our MBT70, too many innovations in one design. The T-64 had an autoloader and a gun/missile system that worked about as well as our M60A2/M551 Sheridan 152mm gun/missile system.

Im doing a T-72 for sure. I will probably just do whatever version the kit decals and paint scheme are for. I do most of my kits OOB with mabye some small scratchbuilt details.

Looks like we'll have some compare and contrast kit builds

I'm chiming in with Tamiya's M106A1. The SP Mortar variant of the M113. Won it on ebay w/ Abers PE - nows as good a time as any to build it. Looking foward to it.

Hey Sniper,
I'm in also with a M113 I've been wanting to build...unless I spot something I have that's not going to enter. Thanks for getting the whole thing started!

What do you think if I will partecipate with an Italian B1 Centauro? It entered service il 1989 so should be just in time...

I´ve changed my mind. I´ll not build the Merkava II because it´s the Trumpeter motorized kit. I leave it for other ocation. I´ll build a Tamiya Challenger I Nato.
