Been a while since I posted an update on my M7 Priest. Been working on it in sub assemblies. By far,the105 mm is a very detailed kit all by itself. I built up the canon, but decided to glue the base to the upper hull interior plate. The lower hull complete with the bogies and transmission is a separate sub assembly, and the upper hull/interior is the 3rd sub assembly.
As usual, the DML kits are fantastic in their level of detail, and parts fit is suburb. I did need a little filler where the front differential housings attach to the transmission housing.
There is one area that DML really needs to work on, and that's their instructions. These are barely usable. I had to test fit parts over and over again, and still got many parts wrong. I have to thank Tom: barkingdigger, for is excellent Blog on his M7 Priest build. He saved me countless hours and and untold screw ups. Without his build, I don't know if I would have been able to get this far.

Anthony, My build thread is nothing to write home about. On the other hand, Tom's is very detailed, and will get you through all the major instruction/construction issues. He even walks you through how to make the 105 movable. It wasn't something that I was interested in, so I glued mine up.

Well this is it so far, here's the progress on the Chevy! This Tamiya kit was made back in the day when the kits were closer to toys I think. The wheels rotate, the tail opens and closes, as does the radio door and lower storage bin. Still a very fine kit that goes together so very easily! Next paint the camo! As far as I can make out the Chevy trucks chassis were painted black and the bodies were painted sand. As opposed to Tamiya's all sand call out. I also have issue with painting the duffel bags BLUE! they would be khaki given the boys were drawn from divisional cavalry! Okay enough rant pics follow!

Count me in with this campaign, I am going to build a wingy thing (sorry armorama folks) I am building the Tamiya 1/48 Wildcat
Posted: Sunday, September 18, 2011 - 05:39 PM UTC
@Michael: Don't worry Michael quite a few of us build wing things too. Welcome aboard!
@Phill: That Dana is just the sh*t bro! Awesome model building skills the photo etch looks fantastic! It looks BIG too just what are the dimensions? And is this a Russian vehicle? Just wondering as it looks like there's a 14.5mm heavy MG on the roof?
Okay guys almost done with my LRDG subject just got the figures to paint (I SUCK at painting figures!) But the radio car is assembled and weathered a little. I've still got some light coloured dusting to do but it doesn't look to bad and I've got to finish painting all the gear and stuff. BUT it's almost there!

ok not much in terms of updates for my 1:32 Me 109, having some major fitting issues which seem to be pretty common around the enginge cowl region (some parts are slightly warped others just dont fit will the fully assembled engine)
fetting a tad frustrated but updates to come

Hey ya Chris mate ... ya its a strange one this machine ..its not as big as you might think ..the machine gun is the classic Russian DSHK 12.7 and the DANA is Czechoslovakian by birth and as for the size its only about 320mm long ..i have towed artillery models which are longer but it will paint into a very nice kit

Phill. That DANA is a monster it looks like a very good kit though I would really like one but I have no were to put something that big!
Michael. good to see another wingy thing being a Tamiya kit it should build up nicely.

I always enjoy the Tamiya kits, as they are always good therapy. This one has been a good build. I had the last 2 days off from work, so I spent a lot of time in the cave (between Gears 3). I preshaded it, and sadly on the top I really did not get the effect I was looking for, so I went back and post shaded. The bottom looked good with the preshading, so I left that. I decalled (what few there were) and let them sit with the micro set last night, and this morning decalled the bottom of the wings. I started using the wash on the left wing and left side of the fuselage, and it looks all right so far. I will continue more on it tomorrow morning for sure!
Nothing too special with the cockpit, just white over black, and dry brushed black over the dials. Then applied wash
Painted Gun metal, then drybrushed with black and dark copper.
Preshaded. Sorry, no pics of the bottom yet
Post Post-Shading the top but Pre Gloss Coat
Got most of the Decals on at this point
Wash applied to left wing and left side.

Michael, Nice job so far on the F4F-3 Wildcat. The preshading looks really good. Not to heavy handed, as it just looks right. Looking forward to your next update.

Okay guys I'm calling this one finished. The weathering failed a little as I was trying an acrylic wash this time instead of my usual oils and not being 100% sure of what i was going for didn't help! I decided not to use the kit figures as after I finished painting them let's just say they looked very very surprised! (and not in a nice way!)
So here are the finished pics on a plain background I swear I'll do better next time..... HONEST!
