I have injured myself pretty good. I am mobile now after a week. My tank is at the airbrushing weathering stage. Crutches in hand does limit one's ability to carry thing out to the garage where I have my set up. I have the camo on just the weathering and aged look needs to be applied. I wanted to find out if gravity was still in effect, and it is. Was on a ladder but not for long.

I haven't heard of anyone defying gravity lately without the aid of wings or some other sort of support..
Hope you get better sooner than later.

I have to be realistic and admit defeat on this one. I was late to the start line and couldn't make up the lost ground.
Anyway this build is going well. Have just adjusted the colour using a homemade filter to give it a little more yellow. Next chipping, pinwashes and oils. Getting a bit scared of this one in case I mess it up.
Well done to all those who completed the campaign, there were some very nice models.
Merry Christmas
Andy

Warren;
That's one imposing Mother!
It DOES need to set on tracks to really appreciate it's huge ugliness - and it's rather special circumstances, being a "duck on a fixed wire" and all that!
Whenever you get a whole train done up, THAT will fill a huge shelf (or mantelpiece or something...) And it will be "Wow!"
For a moment, there, I started to envision the grandeur of such a display reaching along the 8-foot sandstone ledge that serves as my fireplace mantel... right up until I thought about what SWMBO might have to say about that plan!
Ah, but we can all be dreamers, eh?
While you are staring around and admiring your fine handi-work... you could get out your tiny brush and some dark gray or satin-black and do up those tiny-but-evident grip handles on those hand-wheels. There's plenty of evidence out there to show that those little grips were generally black, and once spun about some, probably greased or maybe a bit of wear to reveal steel? Pencil graphite over the black would be near perfect, I think!
Cheers!
Bob

Do you know how many units made up train 42?.. I am afraid it would need more than your eight foot fireplace mantle..
I am going to mount mine on one of my walls in the drinking room, sorry, home theatre when it is all done.. but first I have to buy quite a few more carriages to add to the five plus loco I already have. If only I had the means..
Cheers Bob and Merry Christmas to all (it is Christmas Morning here)

To the paint booth for primer. Tamiya Hull Red was used.
The spent cartridge basket was terrible and bit difficult to attached.
To make things worst, the lower mesh was to thick in scale that I need to trim it plus the foot pedal just to fit the basket into the gun cradle.

Hey Everybody,
Warren, That thing is a beastie. I like Bobs' idea of putting an entire train together. Expounding on that, how about a rail gun, locomotive, and Armored support car (with a 38t) instead of a specific train.
OK, So I finally have a few days off to finish a build and interact a bit with my fellow modelers. Hope everyone had a nice, peaceful holiday.
I learned 3 things:
1. I'm not spending my time with people I don't like just because they're "family".
2. I'm not neglecting my hobbies anymore. It messes with my zen-like peace if I'm not sticking myself with a knife blade or gluing my fingers together on a regular basis.
3. I'm through with the AMS. If I start the kit, I'm going to finish the kit. I'm sick and tired of having half-built kits all over the place (I'll consider this my New Years resolution for my model-building).
So, in an effort to put my learning to work, I will finish this campaign with the Tamiya SdKfz 7/2 that I've had in inventory for close to 15 YEARS and started back in August.
this is what I have right now
No big deal. Need to finish the weathering and glue the door back on. Then we'll call it a day. I want to put it in a dio either traveling with the "mobile bush" camoflage or set up with camo nets in a field. We'll see.

Some really great builds completed recently or rushing to get over the line tomorrow evening. I know this time of year can have a lot of other distractions so I'm proposing moving the close to Sunday night, Jan 5th if that will help folks.
Cheers

Whew !
Saved by the Powers & Gods!
Reprieve and opportunity all in one! Yay!
OK! I DID "promise just a few days back that I would, given another's rather last-minute jump-in and start, do that myself, owing this campaign a build and all that!
Finally, after some digging, I found my entry kit for this campaign! Perhaps prosaic in that the 2cm Flak 38 has already appeared, and nicely so, I might add, in this campaign, but seeing as it's a fav of mine (I have perhaps five or six FlaK 38-based builds on my shelf... ), and the Germans built many many thousands of these little pop-guns between 1938 and 1944... and there being now several different kits by several manufacturers... I'm IN with one!
Meet the Tristar German 20mm FlaK 38 late production, kit 029. I found it in the closet after XMAS, and started things last night (27 DEC). I'll be doing it up as a "late" in use in France in June 1944. It's the Tristar 029 kit and maybe the best FlaK 38 kit going - albeit always something a guy can change "for the better"! I'll add on the RB Models L/65 FlaK barrel and do a few tiny scratch mods.
I jumped in last night with assembling the gun and much of the mount and added bits.
I had made pretty good progress but despair had set in, seeing as I still have lots to do before it gets to the paint-shop. It's a dinky little thing compared to what most folks have done here, but there are some tiny near braille-scale bits and I am slower and eyes dimmer than before! But REPRIEVE came - belated XMAS Present
This will get done before 05 JAN 2014!
On to the bench!

Nice to see you got off your sorry butt and started building something..
If you are still running short of time just forget the carriage thingy and build the gun..
Another tip, buy a magnifying headset.. They are the best hobby tool ever invented for us old farts.
Cheers and Happy New Year!

All,
Dragon (6288) Flak 38 mit Sd.Ah.51 is already complete except for weathering which I still need to practice. The whole kit was painted with Tamiya XF-63 German Grey then high-lighted with 60-40 mixed of Tamiya German Grey-Buff to give a bit of color modulation effect.
Flak 38
The Grey-Buff color lightening effect was hardly noticeable on the front shield.
Sd.Ah.51 Trailier
Happy Holidays Everyone...
And yeah... I forgot to put in the magazine cartridges.

@ Joseph, well done Sir! Weathering is supposed to be subtle and you have done a fine job.. when you are finished weathering may I suggest a coat of dull-cote or matt clear?
@ Fabian, what are the tree bits for? They wouldn't stop much in the way of bullets..
Well done to both of you for finishing,
Cheers and Happy New Year

Tristar 2cm FlaK 38 WIP...
OK! The itty bitty pop-gun is just about all assembled (in break-down units for ease of painting)... Had to wrestle with a few bits - Tristar made a very nice little kit but getting the linkages positioned and those tiny PE chains artfully bent and attached was less than real fun
Added a couple of little details - camo-net rings on the shield, grip handles on wheels, spring on the trigger-pedal, hook assembly on the gunner's shield, etc., but all in all pretty full of neat detail right OOTB.
And... rushed right along and did up the base-plate and the carriage, too! One of the downers in this kit, indeed in many, maybe all, FlaK 38 kits, is that the pieces on the base-plate intended to represent the hook-up mount to hang the base from the trailer are blah - they should have flanges and holes for those cross-member tubes - so I fixed these up a bit. Also, Tristar does a lousier-than-average job with sprue attachments to the base plate... right on top of the casting seams. Those needed to be fixed, too.
The carriage is a pretty simple-but-complete affair - tires OK but not stellar, need air-nipples for better look, and a couple drill-outs for better "tube" look.
But it's now all ready for paint! Hope remains strong that I'll actually get this all done by 05 JAN!

Tristar 2cm FlaK 38 wip...
Racing for the finish-line, gents!
The pop-gun is primed...
and the base-coat (Vallejo Model Colors Germ. Beige) has gone on last night...
I'll apply the camo (probably some combo of Testor's ModelMaster enamels - choc. brown and dark green - blotches, in honor of a typical tricolor scheme as might have appeared on these in France in 1944...) and maybe assemble the sub-assemblies into a whole gun tonite!
