Tristar 2cm FlaK 38 wip...

Racing for the finish-line, gents!

The pop-gun is primed...

I'll apply the camo (probably some combo of Testor's ModelMaster enamels - choc. brown and dark green - blotches, in honor of a typical tricolor scheme as might have appeared on these in France in 1944...) and maybe assemble the sub-assemblies into a whole gun tonite!

Bob

Don't do anything too drastic mate...

Good luck!!

Tristar 2cm FlaK 38 later production WIP...

And the draft camo is done - before midnight of 02 JAN, even! And, hey! I didn't even actually bust a gut... although there ARE a few sore spots!

Tomorrow (OK, later today, 03 JAN) will come a couple of washes and some more detailing and a bit of chalk to round things out a bit, and I'll call it DONE!

All these tiny FlaK 38 coming out at the end of this great campaign... single guns, guns on trucks (that Protze with 38 is inspirational - one of those is on my modeling "bucket list" for sure!), guns on tracks, quads, even a freaking TRAIN-CAR, for crying out loud! Just awesome stuff, guys!

2cm FlaK 38 RULES! And just think, it was really not much of a muchness as an AA weapon! This could well have been "The FlaK 38 itty-bitty AA" campaign!

Nice one Bob

I'm breaking into a little more of a sweat on mine. I hadn't realised the campaign finished on the 7th! I thought it was the 31st Dec, and had prematurely thrown in the towel.

If I don't get the sdkfz 7 done I may take the flak off the back and submit that!

Hi Andy,
it actually finishes now on the 5th, Sunday evening, as we extended it from the original date of the 31st given that some people were busy with family and other holiday stuff rather than building. I don't understand it myself, but that's life.

If you leave off the flak that kind of defeats the purpose of the campaign....do thee gun and leave off the truck
I won't get to start doing the ribbons until the Monday though so hopefully that little extra day will help you. Now, get busy!

Sean, John, Thanks for the extension. I needed it with family. I dusted the 7/2 with Mocha and am calling it done until I get around to a dio.

2 possible settings and no time for either.
Thanks for a great campaign. I've been wanting to get that kit off the shelf for a while.
Nice job to everyone. Didn't see anything I didn't like.
Bob, Nice, tight camo.
Andy, you can finish. It's the weekend so put everything on hold and smell the paint fumes of victory!

Hi, it´s been a long time, and it´s been a hard year for me.
I call this one finished. Post some photos.

See you soon.

Nice work guys

Hopefully I can qualify for my first ribbon with this Flak?

I'm quite pleased with the oils, I don't think they come across in the photo though which was taken with my phone in bad light because of my rush to finish.

The Kfz 7/1 is a work in progress (in bits). I haven't checked the rules, does a 2cm Flak 38 on its own still count?

Thanks for the campaign

3 very nice builds complete in the nick of time Gents.

Yes Andy, the gun on its own does qualify: I did the Tamiya one myself but yours looks a lot better.

Can everyone make sure there is at least one pic posted in the galley please? I'll get around to awarding ribbons tomorrow evening.

Thanks everyone for participating and sharing your builds and for keeping it interesting and fun.

Raul;

NICE Flakpanzer I! It's long been one of my fav versions of the "2cm FlaK mounted-on-something-powered" - however ineffective some of these "somethings" turned out to be!

Incidently, when I did the Dragon kit of this little beastie, I too gave it the number 3! Well done, friend!

Andy; Good-looking FlaKvierling, Pard! I like the chipping and the "straight dunkelgelb coat" you've gone with. Who needs a track under this thing, anyway?

"As Promised", I've completed the little pop-gun and done a bit of wash and chalk to call it DONE!

Now, if someone would post the gallery-link, I'll toss a few more pics into same! (I looked at the gallery 2013 campaigns page and did not see "Anti-Aircraft" listed???, so I don't know where to post my final pics.)

GREAT campaign and lots of very nice stuff done. We NEED to do this one again, and soon! I, for one, have PLENTY of AA things left to do! Heck, we could have a 2cm FlaK 38 campaign!

Now, lads, don't be slackers! It's still early Jan 2014 and we've most of the year in front of us!

Bob - nice pop gun! I'm liking your camo.

I'll get some tracks underneath mine asap then see you in Big Cats III. Must admit I thought I'd gone over the top with the chipping which was a combination of brush and sponge which took days, but the oils seem to have calmed it down quite nicely to something I'm pretty happy with

"Tristar 2cm FlaK 38 late production - France, 1944" is posted to the campaign gallery!

On to the next!

For me, it will first be my "Unter Falsche Flagg..." Finnish BT-42, and then some armored car, and a Big Cat for the B-C III circus!

Hope all in the chillier parts of the country (and elsewhere ) are keeping warm and safe! Just looked in on the Greenbay Packers game (Greenbay, WI)... a balmy -12 F! Brrrrrr! And here I think it's COLD down here in gloomy Louisiana at a bone-chilling 45 F!

Cheers!

Thank you, Bob. I really like this Flakpanzer, it´s one of my favorites too! If only 2013 were less complicated for me. There was many things I would like to do with this little beast but couldn’t.

Anyway, moving forward to the new campaign "Operation Fall Gelb 1940".

I really like how your little 20mm turns out. Really really nice camo you get there. Congratulations, Bob!

By the way, in my country we are at 38/40ºC (100/104Fº) at this moment. We have 15 days in a row at this temperature level (new historical record for Buenos Aires) and it´s really hard if you have to stay outside.
Thank God for the AC!

And wish to thank everybody in this campaign. It was really great, outstanding work and it was an honor for me to participate.

See you soon.

Raul.

Well, I didn't get my M39 done in time. Had to pull the turret for another museum-related project and as a result, I didnt get to finish anything. I will get it done eventually, but building for work got in the way of building for fun!

On a side note, the Jaboschreck cannon is here. We'll be restoring the whole gun over the next few months!

Thanks for the ribbon John

Jeff: Thanks for the campaign, it was good fun and certainly something different, well for me anyway

Sean: You did a good job there taking up the reigns (once more)

Well done to all who got their AA's built.

Thanks Paul, in fairness it was an easy job given the enthusiasm of everyone participating.

Some of the stats:
104 registered participants
26 participants completed on time
59 pictures in the gallery
48 ages of a thread!
1,192 posts and 85,697 vies (as I type)

I think this rates as a success!

For anyone who didn't get finished in time there is always Unfinished business campaign.

Also, I'll give everyone a break for a few months but watch out for a new campaign proposal Anti Aircraft Again (AAA) shortly. Hope to see ye all on that one too!

Thanks again to all who participated.....it has been fun!

Cheers

I would add a couple of interesting (at least to me! ) "derivative stats" for the summary of AA campaign completions...

Out of 26 posted completed builds:

12 were of German 2cm FlaK 38 guns (on trailers, single- and quad-mounts on vehicles)

and...

19 were of German WWII AA subjects!

Maybe we could pretty easily get enough guys to do the next AA campaign as either a

2cm FlaK campaign

or a

German WWII FlaK campaign!

Just sayin'

Far as I know, I could probably create a complete "list of 10+" possible players for either of those two hypothetical campaigns right out of my closet!

Whenever another AA campaign kicks off, I'll be IN! And yeah, probably it will with another 2cm FlaK gun of some sort!

I was unable to finish my Panther projekt due to medical interference. A new campaign sounds good, might have something is the pile. Looking forward to it starting.

Might be sooner than I thought: just landed a Trumpeter SAM 6 from a fellow club member thinning his stash. :-)

As I had two choices for the "Extreme Trucks" campaign I have just decided which will now be built there, and the other on the
"AAA campaign".
By the way they are both allied.
