@Mike-I live at Ft Carson for 3 years and loved the Colorado weather!
@Paul-thanks for the kind word about my veggies. Sadly I find myself over committed on projects as usual. I really would like to wrap this dio up as it has now gone on for over 4 years. But there is also the Para build going on as a commission and that has to take priority.
The Arnhem thing will resurface eventually though as well as the Stoumont night attack and the Ramcke Brigade vignetter.

I tried to tweek the painting on the older figs a bit as I thought they looked a bit mono-tone. Any better?

In context pics but not as clear for some reason. I will get the hang of this camera in about 10 years maybe.

Anyway. I have a lot of commissions right now so this will have to slow down a bit. I have to take it easy on my eyes.

Jerry, I went back to your earlier shots of this guy (page 2) and did a side-by-side comparison. In your current image, at first glance, some might confuse highlights with sheen but I know that's not the case. So, definitely better! IM very HO.

One thing: Whatever you do, leave the sheen on that horse's mane alone ... it's perfect as-is!

Hi Jerry,

You are very talented when it comes to painting horses, my friend!

Maybe the guy could do with a little more variety in tone between Rock and Hose, just an impression I had when I saw the pics.

Otherwise perfect....and yes, leave the sheen on the mane as it is! Brilliant!!!!

Cheers

So I take it so far that the consensus is leave the horsies alone and the fig does look improved?
I did a bit of tweeking on the horses as well by using a very subtle wash of pure black with oil paint in selected areas. I then put a few light highlites on using Lifecolor acry.
Thanks for the feedback guys and Romain is correct(again, isn't it irritating?) about the contrast with his rocks. I will have to break out some khaki I think.
Anyone else want to weigh in here? I am not trying to inflate my ego I just see a big decline in participation on the board i general and would like to see it improve!

Sure. I think the problem may be people running out of good things to say about this.

There's a lot to like- the compostion, the details, the subject (not enough horses in Normandy dioramas as far as I'm concerned- this might change with some of the new stuff coming out).
It's all good. Looking forward to seeing it with the gun and limber in place, too.

Cheers,

Sean

Alright guys,
Cool, excellent hearing from you but once again,I wasn't fishing for praise. I was just frustrated that there doesn't seem to be much participation on this forum lately. And I meant the whole thing, not only mine.
See what I mean? Hope you didn't think I was whining.

Hi Jerry,

I’ve notice that member participation comes and goes — often work schedule/holiday/season/weather related … just look at Boston! And oftentimes, newer posts will get bumped way down by more frequent chat — guess they can’t always be of interest to everyone — just the nature of the beastie, I guess.

Speaking of member participation, I feel terrible that I haven’t been able to attend monthly meetings at my modeling club — an hour+ drive at night — not happening anymore. Furthermore, they have a competition coming up in April and I won't be able to attend since I work on weekends — not that I have a desire to enter anything; it’d just be nice to see other builders’ works in 1:1 for a change. … And I am whining!

Since this is my only connection to the modeling world, please allow me to cheer you guys on. ... Keep up the fantastic and very inspiring work!

Hi Jerry,

Horses and riders look excellent, great work. The riders look very natural in their pose, really terrific work. The horses and artillery are amazingly well done.

Depressing as it is member participation goes up and down. Not just here but on other sites as well. If you look at views v replies it sums it up. This can be even more evident on a finished build. Two recent build articles on my part, The Somme Part 2, 10 replies v 5882 views and the Tamiya Mk IV, 4 replies v 4394 views. Makes you wonder what the other 5872 and 4390 people thought

It can get even worse . I posted a link to the Mk IV build on ML and no one replied .

One area that usually generates activity are unseen new kits that provoke vigorous discussion which is a reflection of human nature, as people are more apt to complain rather than praise This is actually quite positive as it usually means that if you get something wrong people will be very quick to jump in, although not always

Keep up the good work, an excellent and interesting project with lots of super work.

Cheers

Thanks for typing in buddy. We have discussed this before I think? It is a shame that more don't type something on peoples threads more often but you are correct, this site is better than most I think.
ML,yes, that is a very tough crowd over there. Their participation is way down and I believe it has a lot to do with a few dolts that probably still live in Moms' basement. LOL
Roman is right(again) when he compliments the members here on their civility.

Well said, Romain. There are several armor modeling forums that I don't participate in anymore because the site owners or moderators allow, tolerate or indulge... well, let's just say bad behavior and poor manners. The reasons why this is allowed seem to vary from site to site, but I won't participate on those sites anymore because participation appears to me to be a form of passive agreement with that site's behavior norms.

I've also just finished one build blog on T-L and have another there that's on-going, and I have to say that you can hear the crickets chirping over there, sometimes.

At least here on Armorama, you can see the number of views a blog or a thread has and is getting. Even if you're not getting a ton of actual replies, at least you can gauge if there's any interest. Unfortunately on ML (and some other sites), if you don't get any replies, you have no idea whether or not you're just wasting your time.

IRT the 105 dio:

I'm always looking forward to the next update, but I don't always post a comment every time there is one. I usually wait until there's some pretty significant change, addition, or new work. This is pretty much what I do for most of the builds that I watch.

Yes,Mike,I agree this forum is great. I was maybe getting a bit worried it would turn into what the others ones are now.
Probably my nervous in the service syndrome kicking in again.
This is a great bunch of guys here.

Thank you Paul and Kurt, for sticking with me all this time.

Here is a smallish update. I added some high lights and low lights on this dude. I think I also need to go back and touch up his face?
These are kind of crappy pics though.

Next up today was making the harness tree for the middle team of horses. Also added the rope on the off side horse and the reins on the riders' horse. Still need the reins on the off side horse and of course painting it all. The tree hooks onto the limber post at the front.
The lower tow ropes on these horses go forward to the lead team. It will make more sense when hooked up.

I wish I had the energy, and the spare time, and the energy, and a little spare time to model.... Oh wait a minute... What I meant to say was Wow, Jerry, this is looking more and more awesome with every post.

I love that you guys are getting some work accomplished, it makes me a little more happier than I would be if I knew we were all not getting bench time. But alas it seems as though I'm the only one not finding a few minutes in the days and days to build.

Well said, of course! Was that deliberate?! ... 'Mr. Ed! ... LOL!!!

But seriously ... Talk about a delicate assembly! Great to see this end of the road being worked on again.
