Looks interesting Steve, nice to see another naval subject on the campaign.

Thanks Si! It's refreshing to see a build campaign that covers The Great War. I really look forward to seeing the completed builds. I'm really intrigued by the pigeon truck! See you on the other side of the campaign!

This is what I am going to build for the campaign. This will be my first attempt at modeling a bi-plane and I am really looking forward to it! I am going to model this plane as No. 44 (Home Defence) Squadron from Hainault Farm, Essex 1918.
This is my first attempt with posting a picture, so if it does not show up I apologize

Murdo: I seriously do not have any love for the tracks that come in the Airfix kits. I may build up the Whippet if I have time, and I'll make sure to order a set of those AA replacement tracks, although I'm wondering if it would be better to just buy the AA Whippet instead. It doesn't come cheap though, especially with shipping.
Steven: Wow, that is a very small looking resin kit. Is it an older kit, perhaps from the 90's? And you're not late by any means, we aren't even a month old yet
Alan: I'm not a big fan of thick flat edges on a base either, but that's a good looking vignette. Odd that it would include a helmet from WWII.
Zaltar: I have been struggling with the time issue myself. Hopefully the length of this campaign will accommodate your needs better. I haven't had a chance to look at either of those kits before, but I have been interested in the Nieuport especially.
Dean: That's a good choice for a kit. Don't worry about the rigging, I'm not going to hold anyone to that in this campaign. If you do choose to pursue the rigging, there are some good walthroughs on Aeroscale as well as several modelers who are quite skilled in rigging 1/72-1/48-1/32 aircraft. Don't be shy about asking any questions regarding modeling or posting issues
For those intrigued by the Pigeon Truck, you're going to be in for a treat. I've seen several scratchbuilds, mostly in 1/72, and they have never once disappointed

Hi all...
I'm back from Afghanistan and I'm ready to do some modelling. For this campaign I'll be building Emhar's Whippet with Model Cellar tracks.
The plan is to build it OOB, but you know how these things take on a life of their own.
Chris

Jeremy,
Yes, "dinky" would more aptly describe it. I believe it is a kit from the 90s. I inherited it from a friend who decided that it was too small and fiddly. To be honest, I'm a bit concerned over the PE myself. It's pretty delicate stuff and my ham-hooks are not attuned to such wispy-ness... So, we shall see.
Ordered my reference material last night so as soon as it arrives I shall be..underway.
Good luck to all and happy building! This looks to be shaping up as an interesting campaign!
Steve
I cannot believe that Rui Matos is not in this campaign! This is right-up your alley! Come aboard you old Portuguese Sea Dog!

Chris, that's the truth! Also, welcome back. Hope you're well.
Everyone else here, I'm still on some other campaigns for now, but studying up and checking this thread before I step off!

Hi folks,
Would anyone know the colour of the slouch hat worn by the ANZACs in WW1.? A pictuer would be great.
Thanks

Alan,
I suspect that Vallejo English Uniform or US Field Drab (or any combo thereof) would work.

The tracks are indies. I'm not sure if their resin or plastic, but they look a LOT better than the kit tracks.

Hi Matthew,
Thanks. Some work from a few days ago as there was some decent light today.
I've extended the base to loose the square edges.

Excellent! Your added groundwork makes a world of differnce. I hope to learn from it!
A bit of a barbwire entanglement set right at the foot of the breastwork may further enhance the look. Just a suggestion...
Cheers,
Guido

Many thanks Guido.
Firestorm do a 4th figure of a chap carrying a Lewis Gun Ammo box and I wanted to include him in the build. The trenches I've seen on Gillopoli pictures are little more than a shaft so adding the back of the trench in would have defeated the object of displaying the figuers.
Good idea on the wire, something that has yet to be added, but is pending. I got some AA wire several years ago and haven't used it yet.
This is how things stand at the moment. The main painting of the figuers is done with just highlights and weathering to add. Some additional items to go in, waterbottles and a rum flagan. Rifle straps still need added.
Does anyone know if steel ammo boxes were used during WW1 or were they all wooden?

Hi Matthew,
Thanks. The only changes I made were to use some of the Italeri SMLE as I felt the kit rifles were a bit thin. I added a new right arm to the walking chap as the supplied one was a bit deformed.
The bayonet in the sandbags is an Italeri one and I've added some additonal items in the box, although you can't see them in these pics.
It was great to come across some ANZACS for WW1 and the set is really nicely done and represents a famous but failed operation from WW1
This I believe is the picture the set is based on.
Cheers

Alan,
Great work. I really like the improvements you made to the base and the figures look really good too.
You do know we have, like, 10 months for this campaign, right?

Hi Chris,
Many thanks, yes, 10 months . Just getting warmed up and really liked the look of the set when I came acrosss them. Main build will be the Resicast Rolls Royce but I can't get started on that until I finish my Churchill MK IV.
Thanks again.

I still have not received my reference material (still in KC Fed Ex depot) So, during the interim and as was pointed out, we have 10 months. So, since I plan to take my sweet time with UB-1, I'll throw this in the mix as well:
