Well that's me under way at last. This will be oob, but I thought I would see if I could fabricate a plywood floor. It's a pic of wood grain printed onto heavy photo paper and cut to size. It's a bit ropey looking, but I figure that for all of it that will be seen it should be close enough!
Just done some pre shading and base colour. No detailing yet.
I think I'll go for the Don Gentile "Shangri-La" version in Olive Drab. I have the Vallejo Model Air Drab - it looks a bit dark to me, but I intend to try my hand at post-shading and fading on this one -that'll be a first for me, so I hope to get lots of good advice and pointers from you guys in due course!
Cheers, Pete

Pete, you will love that kit. Probably one of the best fitting and best detailed 48th prop kits out there. Definitely a fun build.

As expected, everyone's builds are looking fantastic! Greg, I wanted to give my two cents about your dio. In my opinion, you don't need a vertical element...the commander IS the element to my eye. When viewed from the right angle (I'm thinking behind the Nazi, looking toward the -34/85), the scene will be perfectly busy, and very intense. I'm really envisioning a "David vs Goliath" moment here, except for the fact that Goliath wins Give it a shot! If it just doesn't look right to you, then stick a light pole in the scene, easy enough. Either way, you've done a heluva job with this dio...well done!

Robby - thanks for the help and I've got to agree with you the light pole can't fit and distracts. I've come up with some destroyed barbed wire with the triangle logs that I think will work. Just need to get some thinner wire. Again thanks for your comments

Fantastic idea with the barbed wire! I will admit the ground does look a tad bare in its present state to depict a ruined city battleground, but I couldn't think of a way to fix it up. Can't wait to see the new pics!

Pete: Nice work on the cockpit.
Ian: The camo looks great.
My barrel is finally in the mail to me, so while I wait I replaced a couple of grab handles with brass rod. (The cut off kit ones can be seen to the left of the tank.)
Happy Modeling, -zon

Did the post shading on the Sherman and shot the panel lines and recesses with Tamiya Smoke yesterday. Brushed on a little Future and applied the decals too. Should be ready to start the weathering and pin washes next. This one is gonna be dirty!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the feedback Zon...........can't wait to see the Jagdtiger.

Pete... Nice looking cockpit.Painting it on the sprue looks like it gave you a nice handle.
Greg... No pole! I do like the barbed wire idea You might try telephone wire,it's hard to strip, but it's really fine.
Zon... Is this one going to be horse drawn also? . Good to see a pic,the grab handles look sweet!By the way we are going to get frost for the next 3 nights.
Ian... Those decals are very bold, and look great against your camo. Are all the darker places on the hull Tamiya smoke?
To all... I am now in the same boat as Zon,as I came up with some good ideas and ordered some stuff for the Puma,so My build is on hold for now.Model on,Jeff T.

Ian: your weathering and decals really bring it together. Good work.
Jeff: no horses on this one, although I did see some really good horses in 1/48th somewhere (maybe dio forum?) and that has me thinking, which is not only dangerous, but occasionally painful! Besides, those other horses are giving me fits!! Raining (hard) here each night this week. Sunny days though.

Well, Weathering Round 1 is complete. The pin wash was added and then a wash of black paint and Future was added to the stowage. Oil paint dots were then blended into the top coat. Scratches and nicks were added with Vallejo paint and a graphite pencil. Also painted the white shadowing on the "4" with Vallejo paint. Once all this drys I will flat it out and the ole' MIG Pigment mud will go on. Jeff...in answer to your question; yes that is Tamiya Smoke in the recesses and over the panel lines. Airbrush it in and then add the burnt umber pin wash over the Smoke.....pretty neat shadow effect.

Marc - that build is coming along well using your time strategy. I really like that trailer as an accesory. Your plastic taco salad tub in the background also looks swell for protecting WIP models I do something similar with plastic ware.

Thanks Greg for the comments. I glad this GB ends in September.
I plan on tackling the tracks next week if my wife holds to her promise to not be home for 4 hours next Saturday. No "curve balls" to stop me in mid-build

Marc, thanks for the compliment! This isn't really my favorite Sherman variant..........I am more of a fan of the Easy-8's and the Fireflys but I thought doing a New Zealand Sherman would be kinda cool, especially with the brown and OD w/ the red. Beautiful work yourself......just checked out your Photobucket pics.

Well, this one is a wrap. I put on the final application of MIG and CMK pigments last night and added the .50 cal and the antennae. The photos showed these vehicles to be very weather beaten and worn from months of intense combat. The tank depicted is a Sherman III (M4A2) from "Able" Squadron, 18th Armored Regt., 4th New Zealand Armored Bgde., Veroli, Italy 1944. Well, since the campaign is still young it is time to get in the 1/48th plane pile now.

I posted earlier, and don't know where it went. Anyways, I am running way behind my self imposed schedule, and have to change my build for this campaign. I haven't even started my B-25 and there is no way I would be done by 5/30 when I leave to get my wife and kids. Plus I am painting my downstairs, replacing the carpet, working, have grass that doesn't stop growing and weeds that look like monsters. So I am switching to the AFV Sturmtiger.
There is my picture from the other day showing it in the package, and here is the picture of progress from last night and tonight. There is no interior, I am thinking of machining a shell to put in upper hatch so they can be open but the opening filled.
The fit of this kit is just about as good at the one for the AFV Tiger I. That was a fun kit and I think this one will be too.
Wish me luck... lots to do and no time to get it done. By the way...some awesome looking stuff in this campaign.

Ian - Congrats! I like the dirty finish and the gear has made this Sherman into an interesting subject to look at (I've failed twice at it lol).
Walt - Fantastic choice. The bomber sounded better IMHO but I guess you have a few reasons listed why u needed a faster build lol
I've started the barbed wire and trying to perfect the look and make enough strands. I thought about buying pe barbed wire but I think I can pull it off and save $10+ dollars
