Ian, you really finished that off nicely! I like what you did with the stowage...very realistic shading, and it adds a lot of personality instead of a factory-fresh vehicle. Well done!

Ian - Congrats! I like the dirty finish and the gear has made this Sherman into an interesting subject to look at (I've failed twice at it lol).
Walt - Fantastic choice. The bomber sounded better IMHO but I guess you have a few reasons listed why u needed a faster build lol
I've started the barbed wire and trying to perfect the look and make enough strands. I thought about buying pe barbed wire but I think I can pull it off and save $10+ dollars
Greg,
I did a small dio a few years back. I made the barbed wire myself using a roll of small motor armature wire. I just tide knots in it at fairly regular interval. I will try to attache a picture here to show you what it looked like. It was fast and easy.

Pete, great job on the front office of your Mustang. I like the dry brushing job on the instrument panel too. Very nice indeed.

Thanks for the kind words Robby. The photos I saw of the vehicles from this regiment in the Italian theater all showed heavy stowage and alot of weathering and wear and tear so I really wanted to go all out. Usually I do 1/35th armor so it was actually kind of a challenge down-sizing the weathering.

If it was acrylic paint I'd like to know what was added to it for I have never had any luck dry brushing with anything other than enamel.

Thanks for the comments... personally I think it's a wee bit untidy!
Anyway - it's all Vallejo Model Air straight from the bottle. Pre-shading & base coats were airbrushed on, followed by a wee scoot of Klear/Future. Then picked out the red bits (sorry - that was Tamiya), followed by a burnt umber oil wash and then a drybrush of Vallejo white, then steel. Oh, and I painted some future on the dials - they need another coat. The brush is a Humbrol heller "Flat Hobby" size 4. I think it must have come from a set of Heller "Woodland Creatures" I buought my son when he was small! - don't think it's really for dry brushing - it's very soft. Should it be - or is a stiffer brush better??

The way I look at it, there is no "should be" in modeling...each modeler works with what's in the toolbox and what they're comfortable with! I actually usually use softer brushes (smaller tip, too) whenever I do drybrushing because it seems to be more random and akin to environmental wear-n-tear. Yes, the majority of paint-wear will be around edges and raised detail, but chips happen in the middles of panels too! As long as you like the fruits of your labor, you're doing it right

Enamels seem to work better for Me than acrylics most of the time which is why I asked. It depends what I'm doing as far as brush choice goes.Although it seems simple enough,I'm still learning the method, and sometimes get good results and sometimes not so much

WOW!! I can't believe I got this website to work!!
Started working on the cockpit. Pretty refreshing to work on something completely different!
Looking at some pics on Google and the tiger or cobra mouth with the glaring teeth is looking pretty good right now.
Kinda like a mini-me P40.

Fuselage, wings and tail planes on. Have to say that the fit isn't quite as great as I have heard before, although having said that it is still very good. I used MEK for the first time. Worked well applied via a medical cannula - the bit that stays in your arm after the insertion needle is removed. Pic to follow. It's a fine flexible tube that lifts the solvent by capillary action and deposits it again by same. I found it very controllable and very precise. Can't wait to start painting, but God, I really hate masking canopies!!

Working more on the kit last night (removing more flash) and did read on the instructions it was made in 1967.
PLUS, it said to:
"Use Only AURORA'S Fireproof Styrene Plastic Cement"
TUBE: 10c
Bottle with Brush: 25c
BOY, have things changed! When I was building these back in the day the "glue" of choice was Testor's Tube Cement. And I had to use the Non-Odor type because of my allergies.
Nothing is better than Amboids Pro Weld cement!!
I can even tell that the quality of styrene isn't the same as the cement acts differently with this old stuff. Gotta be careful how I apply it.

From what I can tell, it probably works better than the Touch'n'Flow... and cost me nothing. I was a bit apprehensive using the liquid solvent on the fuselage and wings, but I'm a convert now!

Mateusz: good job on the truck. Looking forward to how that finishes out.
Nico: very nice work on the cockpit. What did you use for the silver? I've been struggling with tamiya flat aluminum on some other work, but yours looks like it went on well.
Jeff: I remember that tube stuff as a kid. Strings of it all over the work bench and big globs too. Last year on a trip back to the mainland I stopped at a hobby shop. A couple of kids came in asking for tubes of glue. Suspecting they just wanted to get high, the clerk sold them the "non-toxic" version.
Happy Modeling, -zon

Non-Toxic version! That stuff was so horrible as an adhesive! But, believe it or not guys ... my situation was so bad that I couldn't even use that. I used Elmer's White Glue. Yeah I know, it's not even a cement but a porous type glue. But I became real good at it and tried not to pick up the models too many times for fear they would fall apart.
I am glad I out-grew the problem. Now you can see how devote a modeler I am for sticking with it.
And matejson ... your GMC Truck looks so clean and neat. I'd love to have the type of camera you are using. It takes some really nice images there!
