Hi Tom,
Good weathering can do a lot, lets see how that works out, can't wait for the new pictures.
Thx for liking the model so far. I will too use some new weathering techniques... lets see how these work out. My model is the 1/35 King Tiger RC. Luckily for me... I notice that bigger isnt better for me :-)

Here a pic after the first fading fase. I have to redo some parts. I used oil colours, primary off-white, raw umber some brown and blue (for the green parts).
in the picture I added the turret, this has not been faded. This shows the contrast of the faded parts and the non faded parts.

Hi All,
Is it too late to get in on this? I have some Sherman kits I really need to get done. They've been sitting in my 'cave' half finished for over a year now!
Cheers, Paul.

Hi Paul, never too late to join....your target though has to be to finish at least one of them by December 31st. All 3 would be great....or as Meatloaf sings: Two out of three ain't bad

While looking for a historicpost of mine I came across this build log from 2012....And it's not progressed since. So this will be my own entry to the campaign.
I will finish her this year! Need to keep telling myself that. It's the PE that fights me...

annndddd.. Done!
20+yrs one kid, two wives, four moves and a lot of beverages later...
That explains why it looks so wearhered! The spare tracks look like real rust....mustn't have been well stored for the 20 years Very nice job!
Now, I need to go see if there's an issue deleting old pics from the gallery.....

Hi Mike,
nice work and I guess it was worth it finishing it after 20 years :-).
One small suggestion. It seems the model has an overal green/brown/gray look. Nothing bad but you could try to break up this colour monotemy by going "wild" on one or more fuel canisters... Beat them up a bit and rust them a bit, just to bring in some lively colour.
For the rest nice work!

Lars,
You are completely correct, it is pretty monotonous.
The 'state of the art', or at least the state of my art 15+yrs ago was paint dk green, wash with burnt umber oils, drybrush with white/sap green and call it done, ala Verlinden.
It's great that the modern moving target of artistry in the hobby has moved beyond those days.
Given what I had to work with, I tried to lighten/distress the upper surfaces of the turret and gun tube more than the hull and painted the components of the AAmg in different greens to break up that monotony.
Actually the last set of in-progress pictures shows this better than these final ones.
I suppose to be more realistic, I could have taken it even farther. Short of stripping and repainting (and risking ANOTHER 20 yrs on the shelf..) that's what I settled for with this old dog.
One old queen off the shelf and onto the contest table this weekend (not expecting much) , then into the display case.

Took the old dog to Armorcon this weekend and am pretty pleased with the results, a pretty respectable 25.5/30 points in the intermediate class for a nice solid silver. And done before the silver anniversary of starting the kit.
I got a good chuckle from the crown when the name of the build, "Tamiya T-62, Death of a Shelf Queen" was announced.

Sean,
Thanks for the kind words, but it's really the Unfinished Buisness, Gettr done, and Hangar Queen campaigns that have gotten me off my butt and FINISHING these kits lately.
I'm terrible about starting kits and then getting distracted by a shiny new thing, so the shared experience and motivation of these campaigns really helps.

Here's some of my recent progress I've been doing on my model. And finally finishing it off.
while i was putting in shade for the panel lines the rear wheels broke off. i tried to glue them but they still weren't strong enough. so this needed work later.
here i fixed both of the wheels be re-enforcing it with a brass rod. sorry if the pictures not good.
now comes the camouflage. although this would have been better if i applied it before the shade.
