I started th basic figure posing for a new vignette which takes place at the wars' end. German forces are trying to get to the demarcation line at the Elbe River,preferring to surrender to the Americans instead of the Russians.
I will try to cram this Ford truck full,starting with the cab and hood.



I then have to fill up the back.
How many guys (or girls) do you think I can fit back there?

A lot depends on whether you're talking only troops or civilians too and if they are bringing gear or bags. Think a high number since its a desperate situation. In my last trip to Honduras back in January I got 28 people in a Nissan pickup. You'll be surprised how people will cram in when they want to get somewhere.

I think you should be able to get 30 or 40 people into the truck bed and another 20 crammed onto the cab and bonnet!!!!!!

WAY TO GO, JERRY!

One gets tired of the same old "SS Troops attacking, with pointing SS Officer" genre of stuff. Will you also be including any German refugees and US GIs/MPs ready to meet your "surrendering" German Troop column?

A few horse-drawn civilian wagons, loaded up with belongings and passengers, mothers with kids in baby carriages, older people riding and/or walking, are all possible, as there are quite a few civilian figures available, both in resin and plastic, with an even greater number of German Late-War Soldiery on foot...

Food for thought, anyway...

This is going to be one interesting build. Can't wait to see more.

I love the idea of this, its not a subject we see very often. Already the idea is looking solid- I like the idea of having people crammed everywhere- even on the fenders- really makes for an interesting piece. Best of luck with it Jerry!

Hi Jerry - this is sure to become a fun build to look over your shoulder on! I'm really interested to see how you shape and place the figures. I can imagine guys sitting or standing in the bed generically - but, what will be well worth the wait will be seeing what you do with them - that is, look at your guys in the cab, the way they actually look like three guys in the cab - we've probably all been there. They don't look like three model figures glued next to each other. The group in the bed sounds like a very big challenge! You're certainly the right builder for this one. This ought to keep you busy, and we the viewers paying attention for a while!

Oh - and yes, I'm waiting for you to find the perfect rainy day so you can take pictures of your last project - did I tell you the groundwork (and obviously figures!) looks awesome!?!?

It took quite a while to build this finicky and delicate frame. It all is in small pieces on the sprue. And this is only about 50% done!!! This is a nice little kit,btw. The first I have tried from ICM.
Take care,however,as the plastic is pretty soft and these parts are nice and scale thin.

I have ordered some new kits for the building the crowd in back of the truck but I am still forging ahead with building this nice little kit.
The dilemma now is...do I finish the Night Attack at Stoumont before I finish this one? Plus,I am now engaged with the group build thingie as well.

There is one thing you have to remember,those Germans,especially the SS that were captured or surrendered was looking at years in the Gulags in Siberia or death.That was the reason you can see in photos trucks,cars,horse drawn wagons,etc. loaded with as many people that can get into or on such.

Jason-you are correct and I will try to show that element in this but probably no SS this time,just regular folks trying to save their a--s from the dreaded Russians.

Here is a overview of the figs I have gathered so far. The Frankenstein process has yet to begin! I didn't have to order anything after all,which is great as I would like to work on "stash diminishment". I gathered some cargo as well. There will be more,plus I have to build the top part of the truck bed,which this kit does not include!



So....22 mini humans so far in the back plus the 4 in the front. Should take me what...3 or 4 hours? LoL

Hi Jerry - I believe you recently used the word extravaganza? Looks like you're in the midst of one right now!! I'll bet 3-4 hrs/fig - that's a lot of good viewing for us, and a LOT of endurance required for you! Be brave! And keep posting!
