I got out the Zvezda T-35 kit and had a look to see what it might need outside of what is in the box. It look pretty complete just as it is. The tracks are link & length and look pretty nice on the sprue. I have a set of Fruils on hand "just in case." Research material is thin, just a single booklet.
I'm working on finishing up another campaign right now and will shoot some pictures of the start in a few days.

Here's my starter picture.
I'll be doing the 1/35 HobbyBoss Soviet T28E medium tank (#83854). I have wanted to build this one for a bit, so this campaign came along at a great time. I'll start later, after I get a few current builds taken care of.

I too am going to get a start with this Zvevda T-35 kit. It has been right at the top of the pile every since it arrived a couple of months ago. Here are the pics of the start:

Paul,I'm interested to see your build. I've taken a shine to Zvezda's more recent kits and I wouldn't mind having a T-35 and am hoping this is a great improvement over the old ICM kit.

Hobby Boss also make a T-35 and several versions of it. I have one of them and it is superb, much as the T-28 you are building. I was spooked by the large amount of PE it contains. I have a few more kits with PE under my belt now and might be more comfortable with trying the HB T-35 in the near future.
The Zvevda kit has no PE at all and looks very good in the box. A pal of mine & I compared the Zvevda & HB kits and could see the HB parts were nicer. How much nicer? Only a build will tell.

Paul, thanks for the heads-up. I built Zvezda's early Panther for the current Big Cats Campaign and generally liked it. Some of how the kit was engineered was neat...definitely different approaches than the norm. There's also some short-sidedness and engineering insanity involved. They seem to improving across the board.

I'm in with Takom's KV-5.
I was able to do some quick work on the turret. Just need to go back in and do some welds and some texturing.
Started the hull. So far the tub parts glued and the positions up front.
So far the kit seems very nice. Minor flash. Having built a bunch of Trumpeter KV's, I feel I might like Trumpy's KV-5 much more.

The Trumpy KV-5 was an easy build but for the poor engineering with the main turret colliding with the front MG turret. The other thing was that there were no clear parts, something I now expect in a modern kit.
It looks like the plastic is dark?

Yes, all dark green plastic. Feels odd since I'm so used to grey plastic.
So far the only thing I didn't really care for was the MG's for the two little copulas. One of the sprue attachment points was the end of the barrel. Doesn't look so great, I do have some aftermarket DT barrels I might use instead.

I've been trying to decide between the Takom and Trumpy KV5s. I'm glad you posted about the main turret hitting the MG turret. It looks like I'll be going with the Takom kit. Thanks.

I would love to build one early in its life when they still had the tail. I have NO references for the early configuration detailing what other changes might have been made.

As for me, I think I'll go with the 93 "Alsace", the one on the boxart. I love the scheme.

I see in one of the linked builds that the entire main turret is different. Was the kit version later? Was the version built in the first link early or some sort of modification? The text may well say but I could not read it.

Paul, I am afraid I won't be able to help a lot.
The guy does not give much information - He just says he found one or two pictures of the "2C bis", a 2C which had been modified to carry a 155 mm gun in 1926.

The resin parts were made by one of his fellow modellers.
He also states that the tank stayed like this for ten years, but does not give any piece of evidence.
I have no idea of what the 1921 configuration might have been.
