Hey Jason, guess that'll be a new trend, unopened box reviews.

Gary I think this issue is deeper than that.

Some others can comment further.

I agree with you that the thread name is misleading. Is there a way to change the name to reflect the content?
Some great progress on these builds, I think it is excellent that all aspects of the vehicles are being explored.

Deeper than what? My point is that box art has nothing to do with what's in the box.

Is there deeper issue? I don't think so....it is pretty Prima Facie to me.

Don't sweat the small stuff like inaccurate box art....you guys are all doing fantastic on your ASLAV conversions and hopefully we are on the verge of a full ASLAV 25 kit release.

Yep...If we get a new Aussie Armor kit, we'll all be happy !! Especially if the quality is spot on (The trump 8x8's are really nice IMHO).

Guy's you're right about the thread title....

Now what do we need to do is change it to something that matches its content ?

How about:

Building the Australian ASLAV ?

Any other ideas ?

Cheers,

Paul

I hope one of the moderators has taken notice and will respond to the recommendation. I like your title or "Australian ASLAV's WIP",any other ideas?
I'm up north again now and I didn't want to risk bringing my PC with me so I have to live vicariously through all of you guys. I have heard that a package of Mouse House arrived a few days after I left so I will have the bits to move forward when I get home again.
I look forward to your progress.

Hey Paul,

I am a long time ASLAV fan.......right back to the mid 1990s when the the ASLAV and Canadian Coyote were going through trials.

I have had an ASLAV 25 planned for some time now......but Leopards are my priority....and I do have another Australian Leopard AS1 in the final planning stages.....amongst 8 other Leopard projects.

As much as all the mods with the Phase IIIs look great I am going to wait for the Trumpeter kit.....and combine some Mouse House parts with the kit to build a Phase II as originally deployed in Baghdad with SECDET......I like the look of the ASLAV 25 with the day-glo orange recognition panels.

Jason it seems that you'll be a great resource for my Leo 2A6 project.

I'm just unpacking the Tamiya kit ATM. It'll hopefully be Canadian, but that PE slat armour looks pretty scary to do !! The resin conversion bits will also be nice when they arrive.

As for the ASLAV Day Glo identification panel that is a great look from the photos I've seen.

Your ASLAV project will be one to watch when it gets underway. Keep us updated please.

Cheers

Hey Bill,

how about we wait a couple of days for more suggestions on the thread title and then approach the appropriate person to change it if possible ?

I've ordered the ASLAV PC from MH and I assembled the RWS on the weekend (that Tasca 50 cal is a nice unit ). There is lots of MH stowage on the way including some Steyrs to pop in a turret basket too !

Your PC will be my benchmark, I'm looking forward to seeing your next steps also.

Cheers

Paul

My only concern about the title of this thread is that it needs to be something that can be easily found in the search feature. In time others will want to build ASLAV's and add to the base here so it would be great for this thread to be updated and easily re discovered.
In Australia most interested folks know what the Aussie LAV's are called, but a new comer from another country might not know so the name should reflect an intro level title, that's why I thought Australia or Australian should be included in the title.
Other than being easily searchable I have no issues about what to call it, I'm interested in all the excellent content gathered here.
The Tasca 50 looks the part after a bit of work with that strange plastic that gets fuzzy when filed, kinda like the green plastic Revell makes their kits from.
I really hoped to have the MH ASLAV 25 III to work on while up north but that was not to be, so whenever that gets done I certainly will be looking here at all the work you and others have done with your 25's, might even do another PC with the Seal Solution mount.
Thanks for being considerate.

Don't overthink the revised title......

"Australian LAV (ASLAV)"

That covers off .....Country......vehicle type......and vehicle designation.

Plenty of search options with that title for making this a legacy thread.

G'day Guys !!

Not much progress in the last week (waiting on more MH bits which are on the way )

However I've got a question regarding the vision blocks on the ASLAV. I've seen several painted with clear red and also some with different shades of that color.

Some defence dept pics also show them in red - is this the angle ?

What do you experts think is the go (on this Aussie machine) ? Should colors be varied from block to block ?

I was thinking of using this great technique:

Any thoughts ?

Cheers

On page 4 at the bottom (of this thread) you'll see that I used the same technique as in your link. I covered the confetti with Para Film first and then attached to the vision ports with white glue,in theory I thought this would make the masking process easier, we'll see. I found that cyano glue melts the colour off the mylar so if you remove the colour off of the back side of the confetti the mylar will attach better to the plastic or resin.
The reason I used the colours I did is because most of the pictures I've seen go from blue to gold to red but other here will know better.
Good luck

Anti Static Bags from an electronics or Computer shop has lovely coating which simulates the coated lenses well. I use white glue to attach it. Another method I have heard of but never tried or seen is to get Kids Marbling paints and "Marble" a piece of smoke plastic.

Thanks Al, I'll have to check that out - great info.

Anyone have more tips on colors ?
