I am praying to the paint gods big time believe me.
My tweekers are no good, just toys, so need proper ones. I had a go at some photo etched parts, the eyelets, I think the last one was spot on, but the rest, oh dear.

Ive decided that if I just glue ione tip in the right place and let it set, then it can be moved into place.

I forgot the turret was on and somethng moved and that moved another thing, then you can guess the rest, It looke like I drove under a low bridge I guess but not too bad,

Ive nutted out how to make cages, Im an expert there. The larger PE mest, I think wil be OK.

Most of my errors have been handling issues, and lack of experience in PE. I forgot to wash it, and worled out that I whould sand the tiny bumps from the attachemnt.

Ive got so many left overs its not funny, but these are deliberate, but not mentioned as extras. Confusing for me.

The ting brackets, for props and front etc, apart from them breaking by magic, placement was hard due to holes not good enough fit for plugs. I will glue back on what is left last. After ive glued back on the broken bits.

Im thinking IM better at planes. These tiny PE parts well all tiny parts are beyond me at present. I think the tiny plugs are best cut off and the part glued flat over the pin hole, the end result is the same and the job a lot easier.

When I get some new glasses, things might be easier.

What is enjoyable is thinking about what each part realy is. It gives you a better idea than looking at one in the flesh really.

there is two parts to building an ASLAV, in my opinion - the physical build - which if you try to accurize or get too specific on timeline can really do your head in - so many little details that need "fixing" or modding and so on. I envy the Out of the box builder.

the other part of the build, is the paint. An ASLAV can built rough as guts as innaccurate as heck, and next to no one would notice as long as the paint is good. You could have the most accurate well researched and modded build, ruined because the tan base coat was the wrong tone. Take the time to look at the colour scheme for Australian Vehicles - the sand is not "sand" its almost pink. strange colour. Get that right, and your build will be a win !

I am amazed at some of the detail on offer here, it should all be in RSL clubs at least it not AWM. I tried to get funding for a modern diorama for AWM to be built by volunteers but couldnt get any interest, a pity. 7200 for 72 sq foot is all thats needed I worked out.

Ive been looking at colors, only way to get perfect is to take actual paints to vehicle, Im working on that might be half a chance.

Mind you, if I could afford all the add ons and replacement parts, I would have another crack no worries.

Today I was working on the three baskets for the turret.
I was so proud of myself, got everythng washed, folded, trimmed, had a practice fit, so gooood.

Then I opened the superglue.

Lets just say these baskets have had a lot of RPG damage, one was blown under the decking by a blast from a mortar I think, but its bright so I will dig it out tomorrow.

My supplies arrived which is good, paint, putty, wash.

My latest thought, is if you actually know what you are doing, ie by experience know what to build when, it would be a lot easier.

Paint will be my friend.

LOL dont worry these things are a learning curve, I think I could build a dozen more ASLAV's and still be learning better ways to do them. you have to start somewhere. That said, which kit are you using ? I have a load of spare everything I could rummage through if something critical is needed. I have a few spares, including several sets of kit PE and decals if you need. I dont need them anytime soon and will give them to you if you want, Just be specific if there is a part that compromises the whole build.

Thanks for the offer Adam but your generosity would be wasted on me and this build, like you say, its all learning.

Today I called in the crafties from RAEME and we pulled the wheels off and stuck her on a hoist and gave her a wash and a coat of black paint.

Is transformed! it hides everythng almost!

Tomorrow I will retrieve the missing basket from under the deck and spray the turret black as well, Ive used nato black spray can from tamiya as I needed that for the PBY so had it to hand.

The RAEME bludgers could not find the missing turret basket, they are blaming the Taliban. Say they must have crept under the deck and pinched it as a trophy. They have also run out of black paint and the QM decided to order more from Poland.
Dont ask me why, I asked him if the Taliban pinched all the black paint as well, but I cant print his reply.

So we wait.
